What a statement! Genius. Ahmad ‘s music enters your heart and soul and flows directly through your blood. Had the ultimate privilege of seing him live and meeting him. A prodigious human being.
I believe you are looking at the finest jazz trio ever assembled. Some would slide in Verniel Fournier, Israel Crosby, Idris M. etc.--but I really think this is it.
It’s interesting how jazz and hiphop use a lick or riff in almost polar opposite ways: a jazz song often has a million versions/variations on a riff or musical idea (e.g. ahmad jamal’s “i love music”), whereas hiphop singles out the most potent one and repeats it (e.g. “the world is yours”). Its almost like a jazz musician says “why would you just repeat the same moment over and over when there’s so much else to explore?” And a hip hop producer says “why would i use any part of the song except the very best part?”
....By the way, I am looking for "Keep on Trucking", the B-side of Jamal's "MASH Theme "45 RPM. If you had it and uploaded it, this would be truly appreciated. :)
RIP Ahmad Jamal!

Nice, this is rare, not much footage of AJ from the 70's ....... would love to see him playing the rhodes, but i fear that's asking too much .........
