Have you ever thought of purchasing an insect as a pet or simply to study it, watch it grow and eat? What about purchasing stick insects, they are quite interesting.

In this video you can see a large species of stick insects (Diapherodes gigantea) that can reach 15 or more cm, this species (alike Extatosoma tiaratum) is suitable for beginners, they just need few simple things: big terrarium or plastic box (30 x 30 x 40 would be good), good ventilation of course, fresh leaves of blackberry, raspberry, oak or rose (even different leaves), spraying every day, because they drink a lot, ideally in morning/noon and that’s all. I bought 4 of them, 3 females and 1 male, all of them made all molts until the last one, when one female didn’t make it and died, but the rest of them lived another 7 months after that and those 2 remaining females „have made“ 1600 eggs, that means 4 eggs a day per one female that is a lot. There aren’t any big problems with taking care of small nymphs, they just drink a lot. I keep E. tiaratum in the same plastic box with D. gigantea, both species drink a lot as nymphs.
Music was composed by me, I’ve been playing on piano for several years. I tried to create a little bit scary ambient music.
Soon there will be a video about little E. tiaratum.
You can visit my channel about animals and watch videos about another insect, especially mantids (Hymenopus coronatus, Sphodromantis lineola, Prohierodula laticollis, Phyllocrania paradoxa) or phasmids (Phyllium giganteum, Phyllium ericoriai, Eurycantha calcarata) and more.

To bad they are illegal in my state :/ there was an out break in San Diego, the culprit was the Indian stick insect.

So have you had good success raising is species on a diet of bramble and other plants without eucalyptus?

I've never had any eucalyptus. Bramble was the best choice for every stick insect species that I ever had.

That's very reassuring, mine just hatched and everything I've read would have you believe that a diet of anything besides eucalyptus is a death sentence for this species

My diapherodes gigantea won't eat anything other than eucalyptus. I'm in UK but eucalyptus extremely jatxy and easy to grow, bought a few plants off eBay and cut a branch every day or 2 for them I did try them with bramble etc but they don't touch it. X
