It's not surprising to me at all. I actually expected Adam to be quite bad at this. They're both very different movement patterns. You don't get born with talent for all movement in general. Most movement patterns must be taught.
Hmmm. I think a lot of the mobility stuff and climbing translates to other sports if you have the awareness. Although... everything that involves footwork is hard for me personally. maybe it's what you're born with / childhood, to some extent

A hele, moji dva oblíbení borci z různých sportů společně. Oba nás výborně reprezentují ve světě, k oboum mám neskutečný respekt. Oba jsou dle mého skvělí lidé, kteří něco dokázali. Souboj s horou a souboj s chlapem jako hora má fakt dost společného (a zároveň jsou tam velké rozdíly). P.P.S. : Adam se asi moc prát neumí (to není výtka, prostě to nikdy nepotřeboval), ale přesto bych nechtěl, aby mi čapnul třeba ruku a začal mi ji mačkat. Ty jeho párky místo prstů mě vždycky fascinovali :-). A facku od něho bych asi taky nepřehlédl. Jiřího v tomto ohledu nemá cenu komentovat :-), ale vidět ho třeba na umělé stěně by mohlo být zajímavé. Lezení je strašně specifické na namáhání svalů a znám mnoho silných kluků, co jim lezení moc nejde. Ale Jiří je dost pohyblivý, no mohlo by to být zajímavé. (Omlovám se za oslovování Adam a Jiří, ač se osobně neznáme, ale to je úděl mediálně známých, já když je někde vidim tak mám pocit, jako když jsme za ty léta kámoši - samozřejmě falešný pocit. Ale jsem o něco starší než oba, tak i přes respekt k nim jsem si dovolil..... tak snad mi to odpustí).
Ještě si neodpustím : Strašně mě potěšilo lezení na olympiádě (kterou jinak prakticky nesleduji). To byl sportovní duch. Soupeři si pomáhali, podporovali se, radili si. O tom je sport. A taky důvod, proč "profi" sport prakticky nesleduji. Tam to dle mého se sportem už má pramálo společného. Ale lezci si zaslouží potlesk všichni. Radost se dívat. Ono je to asi mentalitou lezců (sám jsem začal lézt vlastně díky skvělým lidem okolo lezení). Tam nemá místo podrazáctví, faleš, nesoustředění nebo lenost. Zkažené jablko se rychle vytřídí. Díky tomu lezení tak miluju a vím, že když se potkám s neznámými lezci, zcela určitě to budou skvělí lidé, na které je spolehnutí.

I mean, he might of been alright but sparring a dude who out weighs you like this will make even veterans look like shit. The consequences for over extending are just too high. Nothing worse then being matched up w the heavyweight during sparring. It's barely a fight cuz he don't wanna hurt you and you don't wanna get hurt lol.
Damn that is such an awesome crossover! We can learn from all and everywhere! You can see Adam is fit and ripped and has the stamina, but lacks the flowy coordination for boxing…but you know what: that is fine and completely normal! More of such things and insights!

I’ve been a fan of MMA since the days of Tank Abbott and Kieth Jardine. I started climbing 3 years ago when all the gyms closed down. I feel uniquely equipped to love this video.
I would have thought that there would be more carryover from climbing into striking and wrestling! So much of climbing is about body positioning and leverage, which I thought would help with wrestling, and there is a lot of hand speed and precision required in climbing that I find similar between climbing and striking.

Two years ago I fell in love with rock climbing in my late twenties after 12 years of training Taekwondo in my youth, and there are SO many similarities between these different disciplines- certainly those mental aspects of courage, willpower, toughness as mentioned in the intro, but also physical correlations: the importance of body awareness, precise foot placements, MOVING THROUGH THE HIPS!, breathing techniques... the list goes on. There is even a special "power scream" called a ki-yap which channels energy through the body. I recommend every serious rock climber tries training in martial arts, and every martial artist should go climb!

Tady bych za sebe snad jen doplnil, že Brno je pro mě město kontrastů. Mám od Brna nejlepší kamarády a znám odtamtud i největší exoty a dragédy. Poměřování s Prahou se mi trochu ekluje, procházet Prahou znamená většinou potkávat cizince, proto to nerad srovnávám (nejsem ani z Prahy, ani z Brna). A moravskou pohostinost prostě miluju, Praha je pro mě moc neosobní (i když jsem tam chvíli žil). p.s.: co se týká politiků brňáků, tak to je téma samo o sobě. Je toho hodně, ale třeba fetující představenstvo města za mě v pohodě fakt není. A doslova mě děsí, že to mnozí i hájí. To je žumpa. A samozřejmě gang kolem Blažka taky není sranda. Vlastně je to doslova tragedie a bohužel to už má dalekosáhlé důsledky. Že to mnohým uniká, je o to strašnější. Přeji krásný den.

Jiri is one of my absolute favorite fighters. So good to see him next to one of my favorite climbers! Have slways loved the idea of introducing Adam or any elite climber to grappling (less so for striking which suits Jiri better than Adam). The limb intelligence and grip strength would make for unbelievable growth for any climber who wanted to grapple
I love climbing and mma so this was a fun crossover. I definitely am more of a natural at mma, but I’ve found climbing really forces me to push myself in a similar way to mma without the damage. It’s fun to see each of them out of their own respective elements dying doing the others sport😂

I come to climbing from martial arts, there is a lot of common things between both practices, glad that you tried it!
I would have thought that there would be more carryover from climbing into striking and wrestling! from seeing how adam was throwing punches, I can confidently say that the sports have nothing in common.

@AdamOndra I know about subtitles but my wish is more about the subtleties of a meeting like that...A translation is only part of the conversation in my opinion. And don't get me wrong, I don't want the video to be in english...I just wish I was better at languages.

Jiri is one of my absolute favorite fighters. So good to see him next to one of my favorite climbers! Have slways loved the idea of introducing Adam or any elite climber to grappling (less so for striking which suits Jiri better than Adam). The limb intelligence and grip strength would make for unbelievable growth for any climber who wanted to grapple

I love climbing and mma so this was a fun crossover. I definitely am more of a natural at mma, but I’ve found climbing really forces me to push myself in a similar way to mma without the damage. It’s fun to see each of them out of their own respective elements dying doing the others sport😂
