  • Noela has one of the hardest jobs in the Ebola response - managing the burials of people who have died. Unfortunately, the first case of Ebola has been confirmed in Goma - the third largest city in DRC and home to more than one million people. However, volunteers, including Noela, who are conducting safe and dignified burials are critical to bringing this outbreak under control and hopefully to an end.
Ebola is a disease that is driven by caring for the ill and the dead. For example, during the 2013-16 West Africa outbreak, 60 per cent of all Ebola cases in Guinea were linked to traditional burials. In parts of Sierra Leone, this figure climbed to 80 per cent. The teams not only burry confirmed Ebola cases but also any person who has died with potential symptoms.
