My 5 watt Swart Atomic Jr head provides everything I need in the living room category. I tend to focus more on speakers and switch back and forth thru a variety of them. Recently played thru a Yamaha THR30II and it's 3" speakers and was super impressed and could be happy with that as my sole living room amp.
Today @ 62 years old I have my acoustic 12 string in my living room. Something to grab and play without having to go upstairs to my studio. When I was 18. In my living room in this tiny little house we rented had Altec Voice of the Theater Cabs and my 4-12 guitar cab with a 400 watt head. It was the 70's and I was in college.
400 watts! Geez! My first tube amp was a fender twin in my bedroom at my parents house. That’s when I discovered just how loud 100 watts can be. I think the neighbors might have said something if I’d had 400 watts!
I only play in my living room. I have two tiny amps tucked around the room, a Positive Grid Spark and a Yamaha THR 10ii. And in the corner I have a Zither stand with one of my three guitars in it (Squier CV Tele, Epiphone LP Classic, Slick SL-57). Two guitars stay in cases under my bed while one is in my living room. I rotate the living room guitar every month. It’s the most my wife will let me get away with in the living room. But it keeps me happy, and it’s all I need. I haven’t been playing long and I’m pretty terrible. But you don’t have to be good to enjoy playing and escape the real world for a bit. 🤘
I watch y’all’s videos on rerun so frequently that I don’t know if I commented. 😂 My favorite living room rig is my THR30II and Artcore AS53. I have it tied into my record collection and turntable.
My living room amp is an Orange Rocker 15 head with PPC112 cab and I’m very happy with it. The aesthetics are untouchable and it has a built in attenuator so I can get full-on distortion all the way down to a home-friendly 0.5 watts. The full 15 is more than enough for jams too.
I keep a princeton reissue western tolex with wheat cloth finish- a pedal if i need crunch is acceptable for a living room amp. The princeton can make the whole guitar collection sound great. If I had to have amp distortion, the bassbreaker 007 is surprisingly good as is the 15- which can be found in decor friendly colors.
Got a Fender Blues Jr tweed upstairs in the guitar room, “it really brings the room together” (Lebowski reference). And in the living room is a Fender Acoustic 100, my wife got it for me because the wood cabinet matches our wood floors. Couldn’t argue with that. And to beat all, she said today “Why don’t you buy yourself another guitar and put a Christmas tag on it from me.” I’m excited, dumbstruck and very wary all at the same time. 🤔
Now you’ve got to try to figure out if the Christmas present she bought herself is in the Mexican made Fender price range, American made Fender price range, or Custom Shop price range. You could go Custom Shop level and hope for the best.
My perfect "living room" set-up won't score any points for style and kudos, but it happened totally by chance this year - and, would you believe it - it had to be on April Fool's Day! It'd been a tough week at work and I needed to play a bit to unwind. I couldn't be bothered messing about with my usual set-up, so I just plugged my Tonefox Elcaster into my old Yamaha THR10C which had sat semi-forgotten for months. I couldn't even find a pick when I needed it - and I don't normally play without one - but I just wanted to play. And... the result was one of those wonderful WTF moments we dream of in music! The little Yammy had been left dialled in for a perfect edge-of-breakup bluesy tone, and the Elcaster's custom P90s were so expressive played finger-style, I accidentally stumbled onto a sound I've tried to get for years - the perfect combination - going from crystal clean to "valve-like" overdriven purely by the most subtle touch, with a greater range of tones than I'd get with a pick! I've never thought of myself as a "tone chaser" - I've always basically made do with whatever - but that evening opened my ears to a tangible difference. And now I'm left wondering how it happened with a THR10C! I guess it's proof that, just occasionally, magic really does happen!
My home rig - AmProII Strat & Jazzmaster . Martin 000-15M Taylor 12N. Tonemaster Twin, Walrus OD -FUZZ - DELAY. Strymon El cap , MXR Phase 100 and univibe. Morley Wah, Electro Harmonix Mel9 , Intelligent Harmony Machine. Hologram Microcosm.
I have a Vox AC30 Custom in my living room, is a valve amp, master volume, reverb, tremolo, even fx loop (that I never use), sounds great at low volume, I had an AC10 but I swear the AC30 Custom is nicer at low volume in the house, maybe extra speakers helps, I have an attenuator but don’t need it. Looks and sounds better than a piece of furniture imho.
I have a few various guitars along with Fender, Vox and Bugera amps spread out through my home. But in the living room is my blonde telecaster and a Yamaha THR5 nestled between a ceramic fish and a few books on a shelf. The amp's nice looking, does what I need and gives off a nice sexy orange glow when I play in the dark.
I'm new to the channel guys... But I'm loving it. This video is the subject that has been on my mind. I have a Peavey Transtube 212 EFX, and it is waaaaay too loud for my apartment.
I have a Supro 1605. The master volume lets you get some good breakup without excessive volume, and the blue tolex with silver face just looks so great in the living room.
My living room rig for a very long time has been my Xbox with Rocksmith ... a guitar stand, a volume pedal, and the cable. That is, until I took over the small bedroom and turned it into my studio...
I love my Fender Princeton for my living room, and just about any room I'm in, great full tone and the trem is perfection to me. I have a CS Broodcaster that I play around the house, I love the blend nob, lets me get so many great tones without moving the selector switch, and it sounds awesome at low volume. My 67 Gibson Hummingbird is my only acoustic I play at home, I can't help picking it up, it's my favorite guitar I own.
My best piece of living room furniture is a '53 bassman now living in a reproduction wide-panel tweed twin cabinet. The best sounding amp I've ever had and thanks to Armadillo Amp Works it is truly a work of art!
Happy with my Spark on the side table. And we use the Bluetooth to play background music when relaxing, reading or for company. Conversely, I also have a Hotone Purple Haze hidden behind a basket leading to a 1x12 cab behind my dad-chair. My 50w tube Amp and 2x12 stack remains tucked in the garage.
I can’t afford a living room rig yet but when I can I will definitely go with a relic guitar. As much as you call your kids monsters it’s clear how much you love them and it’s so sweet
I guess mine is a Mustang Micro. I used to use my old Marshall solid state 15 watt. That looked the part and the sound was honestly pretty great for what it was. I gifted it to a younger guitar player that needed an upgrade.
I play a Dark Gene green in my living room. Half watt amp that gets plenty loud and breaks up into mega gain at ultra low volume. I also use an Ehx 2.5mm solid state power amp pedal when using my pedalboard.
I don't know how many folks know about the amp put out by Ibanez back in 2011. It's a 15, switchable to 5 watts all tube head, with white tolex, 3 12ax7's, and 2 6V6's, and a 1x12 cabinet with a Celestion Seventy-80. The amp has so much headroom that to get any dirt you have to dime it, but it has an amazing built in high gain Tube Screamer ( It's an 8, or 9 depending on the spec sheet?), that takes it from a clean Fenderesque sound to a pure Plexi sound. I bought it new in 2011, and took the head to my friend Tom Rodriguez's shop, and played through his Plexi with 4 25W Greenbacks, then plugged the same guitar through the Ibanez head, and into the 4x12 Marshall cab, and the only difference was the Plexi was a bit louder, but the Sounds/Tones were almost Identical. The tubes were very small, cheap Chinese, so I replaced them with JJ's, and it made a world of difference. These days I could probably use it live, but I was so happy they put out a 30 watter, but it had PC board mounted tube sockets, and after 3 returns for noises, and hum that was unbearable, I got my money back, and though I have a Reeves with less than 10 total hours, the Ibanez is the only amp I've used since trying the Reeves which is very similar sounding, but way too loud to be played at home. Lastly Baxter, I just got a message from "what's App" about your UA-cam site, and before I think about answering it, (UA-cam, and Email), I'll give you a call Tomorrow. sorry so long, but if you have not heard of this amp, It is one of the best sounding amps I've owned in 40 years of playing through Boogies, Marshall, Fender, HiWatt, Reeves, Laney, Peavey, and many, many more. the only thing I want to do to it to make it perfect is to swap the speaker for a 25 watt Greenback Peace, call you tomorrow, Keith in RVA
My Peavey Tweed Classic 50 watt works perfect with a 2 x 12 cabinet for guitar. My living room has been transformed into a band rehearsal room and it is awesome ! Low watts are all for the transistor radio players !!! My bass amp is a 900 watt mo'bass by SWR !!
I absolutely love my Blackstar HT-5R . Has the .5 - 5 watt switch and it actually still sounds great at .5 amp is also plenty loud for stage use. I use mine at church. Cranked at 5W that little thing shakes my house 😂
I love my Roland JC22 - super clean tone and stays quiet but can get very loud. Also has tons of headroom and takes pedals very well. The onboard chorus and reverb are really high quality and let the sound fill the space without being overly loud.
When I first got married I had a drum set, Deluxe Reverb and guitar in the living room. Now, I have a rain stick and everything else is in the basement. Also, important to note.....Josh at JHS pedals always has an album review, Baxter always has a movie suggestion.
I’ve been using a 1x12 Handwired BF Princeton and it feels like the perfect practice and mic’d gig amp. It has enough headroom to just keep up with a drummer at a rehearsal but it is amazing low down and I can play at like 1:00 am even. It’s the best rig because I can PLAY when I want!!
I have a Vox VT40+ and it's awesome. Has a bunch of effects and reverb on it and can even change to different style amps. Has a tube in it as well. 350 bucks new. I even plug my acoustic L-00 into it and it sounds good.
I have a Monoprice 15 watt tube amp that has a nice cream/vintage look to it. It has a attenuator that keeps the volume down, simple controls but does have reverb so I can get by with just the amp and no pedals. I found the trick to the living room setup is a small cheap wireless unit so I don’t have to have a 1/4 cable snaking around. I can keep a nice looking guitar on a stand, flip a couple switches and play for a bit then put it down with minimal cleanup. I usually play my Fender Bronco so the wireless unit sits on the body and not on the end of the guitar. Looks nice, is affordable, is easy to use, tolerated by my wife, and is fun for me to not have to retreat to my small dungeon under the stairs that holds a bigger setup.
So glad you mentioned Carr amps. I have a Mercury (original 8 watt version) and it is the perfect living room amp. And very aesthetically pleasing. I love the built in attenuater that goes down to 1/10 of a watt. And the spring reverb is the best I've ever hear.
I think more home players will have bedroom rigs, with an amp suitable to take into the living room. I am lucky in that i live alone, but still have to play a low volume to keep the neighbours happy.
I have a VOX DA20 and it is perfect for my living room. To get an overdrive or dirty sound I change the "style" of amp and it is perfect. Of course that only works on the 1/2 watt setting !
My 100w Marshall half stack is my living room amp. My kids and wife have taken over every corner of the house except for my little spot in the basement with my guitars hanging on the wall and my Marshall proudly on display.
What is best for me is my Player P Bass with a Fender Rumble 40. It can get loud but also sounds great quiet. Only problem is I've already been shunned to the bass-ment. Bass player problems.
I have a Boss Katana 50 and a Fender Rumble LT25 bass amp. Both budget friendly and sound great. Some of us can't afford the equipment that you mention.
Every room has at least one guitar in it. Always on a stand, never in the case. Acoustic for the living room. The bedroom gets a Vox AC4 with a couple of pedals. No complaints about volume, (from the dogs, people on the other hand…). On the other end of the spectrum, what’s your go to amp for Springtime rooftop concerts? BTW, I still have Baxter pulling off the Over the Top upset.
My youngest child is 10 and my dogs are pretty well trained so I get to leave my gear out now without people and dogs touching, dropping, sniffing and licking. My son likes to jam along sometimes too! I have half a man cave; my wife gets the other half for a painting studio; my half is also my office but I have enough room for a “jam corner.” Been collecting gear for almost 30 years so I’m blessed to have a nice rig for living room gigs. Nothing compared to Rick Beato but I can get just about any sound you’d like, unless you’re into modern metal. The only thing I lack is time to play, but it’s a nice view from my desk while I’m working, and sometimes I jam on my lunch break; been working from home for over 10 years.
Feel like im you but ten years younger haha got a ten month old and a puppy cant keep anything out so its all cramped into my home office, been working from home for three years
@@lruddy8820 my son really liked turning knobs so had to keep everything out of reach. We got him a little drum set though and he’s been banging away ever since.
For aesthetics, get one of those old 1940s console radios. A lot of them have a 12” speaker. Replace the speaker and run a small amp head into it. I did this with a 1943 Philco radio. It looks cool and sounds fantastic
At the moment mine is a Sewell Texaplex 25 (w/master vol) 4x12 Marshall w/greenbacks and a shell pink partscaster strat. A great addition to my morning coffee

At home i hook up an behringer P1 to it so i can also play silent using headphones wich makes the amp even more usefull , i also changed the grillcloth to an brown/golden look and bought an light brown leather handle for it to give it an more vintage look ( i didn't like the original grillcloth color and the black plastic handle ) and i removed the tonemaster bagde , so all in all i have an amp now wich is super practical and is also pleasing for my eyes , super happy with it . If I had to have amp distortion, the bassbreaker 007 is surprisingly good as is the 15- which can be found in decor friendly colors.
Baxter: (In your living room) "You can't have eight twelve Marshall cabs."
Jonathan: "Well, you could."
I love the way you think, Jonathan. :-)
Got a Fender Blues Jr tweed upstairs in the guitar room, “it really brings the room together” (Lebowski reference).
And in the living room is a Fender Acoustic 100, my wife got it for me because the wood cabinet matches our wood floors. Couldn’t argue with that.
And to beat all, she said today “Why don’t you buy yourself another guitar and put a Christmas tag on it from me.”
I’m excited, dumbstruck and very wary all at the same time. 🤔
Now you’ve got to try to figure out if the Christmas present she bought herself is in the Mexican made Fender price range, American made Fender price range, or Custom Shop price range. You could go Custom Shop level and hope for the best.
Anyone pissed on it?
@@blacktoothfox677 oh that’s funny! 🤣But I have had a White Russian or two dozen while playing it 🤘😎
The spark pearl and my PRS CE 24, the spark looks good and doubles as a Bluetooth speaker
THR30II
One zither string swing thingie.
Rotate the guitar out each week.
Buffalo '66 is an incredible film. Such a great soundtrack as well. Good taste Baxter!
Vox mini super beetle - best living room, small, quiet (if you want it to be) amp ever. Looks good, sounds amazing! Sounds more like tubes than tubes.
I use a Yamaha THR5 in the living room with a PRS se - great little rig for noodling. It never leaves its spot, and played every evening
I like my little spark looks good sounds good and sits on the table right next to the couch for a little living room its a perfect fit 👌
Marshall Origin combos are beautiful and they sound great.
I have a mid 60s 5 watt supro super that ive had since 1972 with an old ibanez UE 300 pedal rig ive had for 30 years... perfect livingroom rig.
I've got my perfect living room amp! That little Spark 40 amp does all I need an amp to do in my home. Surprising little beast
great video baxter & jonathan one of yer best ....
Strong choice on the Fender 68 Custom Vibro Champ!
My living room rig for a very long time has been my Xbox with Rocksmith ... a guitar stand, a volume pedal, and the cable.
That is, until I took over the small bedroom and turned it into my studio...
I’ve been using the Yamaha THD in my living room for years. I have a load of other great amps but that’s the best one for the living room.
Love you guys such a nice change of pace....never change
the power of a beard out performs wven the most majestic biceps and I'll stand by it until the end of time.
Once the kids grew up and moved out I took over the spare bedroom for my music room
Mustang Micro is no joke. I love that thing. And I can practice any time I want, and not disturb my toddler.
I use my Helix into a mixer and studio monitors with backing tracks in another USB channel from the computer. It's amazing for the house.
Hands down best livingroom rig 68 bassman and 69 bandmaster reverb set up on stereo.
I play a Dark Gene green in my living room. Half watt amp that gets plenty loud and breaks up into mega gain at ultra low volume. I also use an Ehx 2.5mm solid state power amp pedal when using my pedalboard.
You two are actually interesting and entertaining. Thanks for the lunchtime content.
Lastly Baxter, I just got a message from "what's App" about your UA-cam site, and before I think about answering it, (UA-cam, and Email), I'll give you a call Tomorrow. sorry so long, but if you have not heard of this amp, It is one of the best sounding amps I've owned in 40 years of playing through Boogies, Marshall, Fender, HiWatt, Reeves, Laney, Peavey, and many, many more. the only thing I want to do to it to make it perfect is to swap the speaker for a 25 watt Greenback
Peace, call you tomorrow, Keith in RVA
My Peavey Tweed Classic 50 watt works perfect with a 2 x 12 cabinet for guitar. My living room has been transformed into a band rehearsal room and it is awesome ! Low watts are all for the transistor radio players !!! My bass amp is a 900 watt mo'bass by SWR !!
Another vote for the Yamaha THR. Looks great. Sounds great.
I built a 5w champ kit and installed it into an old Art Deco speaker cab. Living room gold!
Supro Delta King 1x8 (1 Watt) sounds amazing on low levels.
Just getting ready to say this. It sounds great in the living room, and looks good too.
This is good to know for future planning.
Been over ALL the options, blackstar silverline 20 was the winner.. small, modelling, not loud and looks good 👍
Hughes and Kettner 5W looks cool with the blue lights
I think more home players will have bedroom rigs, with an amp suitable to take
into the living room.
I am lucky in that i live alone, but still have to play a low volume to keep the
neighbours happy.
I have a VOX DA20 and it is perfect for my living room. To get an overdrive or dirty sound I change the "style" of amp and it is perfect. Of course that only works on the 1/2 watt setting !
I feel like one of those little Pignose amps would make a great stealth rig. It's kind of cool and retro and looks like a table top decoration.
My 100w Marshall half stack is my living room amp. My kids and wife have taken over every corner of the house except for my little spot in the basement with my guitars hanging on the wall and my Marshall proudly on display.
Ibanez TSA5TVR. 5 watt , all tube, 1x8 combo with built-in reverb and a Tube Screamer circuit on board. Sounds really good and looks like an old TV 📺.
What about a Vox Súper Beetle? That would be pleasing to look at. Plus very budget friendly.
Liked for Baxter's tip to get your kids to clean.
My living room setup is a Fernandes Nomad guitar with the built in amp. Sits in the corner and no one notices it, except the cable guy - he liked it.
Love my Princeton too paired with the Two Notes Raptor.
Mustang 2 and a jaguar. My daughter helped me build the jag out of some old parts. Killer sounds.
My youngest child is 10 and my dogs are pretty well trained so I get to leave my gear out now without people and dogs touching, dropping, sniffing and licking. My son likes to jam along sometimes too!
I have half a man cave; my wife gets the other half for a painting studio; my half is also my office but I have enough room for a “jam corner.”
Been collecting gear for almost 30 years so I’m blessed to have a nice rig for living room gigs.
DLS1 watt Marshall. 2×12 slanted Marshall cab. Has a built-in control that can take it to a quarter watt.
The looks the sound. It's hard to beat.
At the moment mine is a Sewell Texaplex 25 (w/master vol) 4x12 Marshall w/greenbacks and a shell pink partscaster strat. A great addition to my morning coffee
A Laney Cub R12 which has separate 15 W and
Yep , here is another oldtime tubesnob ( 40 years ) who got turned on to the fender tonemaster dr ( and i also had an laney cub r12 with an eminence cannabis red speaker in it : ) , i use the tm dr in my living room and for band rehearsels ans gigs , it's does it all very well . Bye bye tube amps : )
I got my Fender Rumble 40 and my American Professional Jazz Bass in the living room. It works for me
My living room rig is a 3/4 size Marshall 4x12 with only two speakers in it and a DSL40CR on top plus an Orange Rocker 15 Terror on a writing table next to it. I also have my pedal board and about 20 pedals under the table and 5 guitars hanging on the wall. It pays to be a geobachelor without kids.
Mesa boogie California Tweed combo. You can customize to match the living room.
great video ... got a good laugh about the matchbox car in the sound hole :)
