The Chad rumble vs the Virgin efficiency
im crying right now over this comment
i wish honda kids stayed with honda.
Théo C im dyinggg over this comment ahahahaha
this comment wins the internet
I think the reality of this situation is that there are tons of people who paid 10k more for a 2015+ STI for the rumble who are now very upset that they could've gotten a WRX and slapped these headers on there. Then they say you'll "lose power." Ok? Lose power for what? The track that you'll never take your car to?
@@bham1297 Ok man i will. You're right it's not like any of my friends have STI's. What research should I do??
b ham I see your point but why pay $10,000 more for a track ready car that I will never take to the track? Lol it’s not that I can’t afford an STI just doesn’t make sense to me to spend $10,000 more when I don’t plan on using the car to it’s full potential which is the track. You can use that with anything in life. I still have an iPhone 7 not because I can’t afford a new one but because why spend $1000 on a phone when the one I have now works perfectly fine for my needs?
I recently installed equal headers on my STi, enjoying faster turbo spool, less ricey sound, and more low end torque, all with a proper transmission with limited slips :)
Sti provides different driving feel
@@donaldlambert4862 Uh I bought a WRX and am now looking to trade my WRX in for an STI because I regret not getting an STI from the start because everyone told me how much better the new FA20 platform was, and how easy it was to get power, and I didn't fully do my research and just based off that I went with a WRX but now I regret not getting an STI. Dude, having a beefier and way more bullet proof transmission is more than just for the track lmao. Plenty of WRX guys blow their transmission without taking it to the track. Truth of the matter is, the STI trans can handle way more power and is built way more stout. It's not a splitcase design first of all. Also, you need to stop looking at the STi as strictly a track car lmfao. Even on back roads the STI is a completely different beast. The fact it still has Hydraulic power steering, shorter gear ratio, and a tried and tested engine platform means it's overall just a better package. Sure the VA FA20 WRX is a much better bang for the buck platform for those on a budget, because you can make more power than an STI for less money. Meaning if you dump the same amount of money on both platforms, the FA20 WRX will end up with more power, but that power is going to be that stock motors limit, whereas if you get a 2019+ STI that has literally the same engine as the STI Type RA (beefier internals, valves, and different oem tune running more boost from factory) there are Type RA/2019+ STI's making 500+ WHP on stock eternals and not showing any of the older EJ symptoms. Of course a lot of that probably has to do with tuners now perfecting EJ tunes, but that's besides the point. If you can afford an STI, 100% go for the STI unless you want to experiment with the FA20 WRX, but in that case I suggest just getting the uglier 2022 WRX because theres already an FA24 swapped VA WRX making 500+ whp on stock internals. Anyways I'm getting offtopic. Point is, STI isn't a waste of money.
I seriously thought these headers were a joke when Tomei USA announced these. I would stay with any ELH brand header over these for the FA20. But kudos to subiespeed for being honest with everyone for the downsides of the headers.
Yeah Tomei used to be about performance
@@KiwiPhil. Tomei USA =/= Tomei Powered (Japan)

To each their own. For me this is a hard pass since it's just sound.
Header. Singular. Got it?
Smeedia what downside?
They’ll simply spoil slower. And we are talking no more than 500 rpms. That’s all.
FAs sound like shit and this finally fixes that
Can’t beat sound you get from an STI, but the fact they made this for the new FA WRX, I’ll take that any day
@Exigent Gaming Is that with the exact same exhaust set up with the before/after or did you add a new system along with adding the Tomei?
Literally has nothing to do with the car or engine. the "subie rumble" that's associated with the boxer engine comes 100% from the use of the an unequal length header. You can get the same rumble on a Honda with a inline 4. Subaru did away with the UEL header because it robs performance.
@@Zach4046792 Then why didn't they slap an equal length header with a twin scroll on the STI?
@@Zach4046792 glad somebody has a brain here
@@profanecreation1997 Because the STi doesn't have the turbo mounted at the front of the engine like the FA20.
People saying it doesn't sound like an EJ are deaf.
And yes ofcourse...it's not gonna sound EXACTLY the same but dammit the rumble has returned
It sounds noticeably DIFFERENT imo. Of course it sounds similar, thats the point of the header. Rumble.
Exigent Gaming But wouldn’t you be getting more power if you got equal header upgrade? Not only that it looks like it was decreased on wheel torque.
@Exigent Series obviously you're gonna gain hp over stock headers but i doubt its beating an aftermarket elh
@@iiSh4d0wsxD yup fa sounds fucking better
I'm glad you touched on the downside of dual scroll turbos and the use of unequal length headers. To each their own as long as it makes the owner smile!
I agree you're car you're build
Keep in mind that if something happens to their car then these are the very same types of owners who are quick to blame it on Subaru if their car has issues
It's not for me personally but I'm not going to hate on anyone for doing it. Hopefully they realize it's going to need a tune which I'm super glad Kevin mentioned that in the video. At the end of they day whenever you turn wrenches on your car then you are ultimately responsible for the outcome but there will always be some looking to blame others for their shortcomings be it life or auto tuning.
Tabasco Dave They won’t be smiling when their motor goes.
Smiles per gallon
I’ve come back here to listen to this every day since the video released 😅
Haha almost every week for me, this is my next mod. I’m hoping shipping won’t be ridiculous like 6 weeks or something 😅
T M fasten your seatbelt buddy, many of us ordered these back in March and we’re still waiting for them😭
I do the same 😅🤣
I did the same, came back multiple times to liaten...finally got mine done, uploaded a video if you guys are interested.
U still here
Can we get a follow up video with an update as to how the UEL is impacting the car? Looking at every day driving situations not track pulls.
Dude... who wouldn’t want that rumble and sound!!!
Need to see this with the tomei exhaust
I sold my 15 WRX BECAUSE of the sound.
But this, I would love to have.
And for those that will whine about the power, it won’t even be a major noticeable difference especially with how most people will be driving these.
Chrispewkreme It’s not just power loss. It also reduces reliability, making your shit a ticking time bomb.
@@yohan1902
Not disagreeing with you. In your opinion would be the point of failure with running UEL on an FA20? The turbo itself would be my guess? I’ve already got my UEL setup I’m just curious about your thoughts as I’ve heard varying opinions on whether it’s just less efficient, or can cause damage. I’ve had Tomei UEL for a couple years now. Thanks, have a good day
I really want to see a before and after dyno graph.
10% loss
G K doubt it
G K its like a 7-10 hp loss from stock headers to uel headers, it may be 10% if its already aftermarket equal length to uel 💀
@@dimensionjester9052 Exactly!!! And I'll take a 5 hersepowaa Loss for that Rumble ANYDay Dude!!! Then I would slap a bigger Turbo, Fuel system, and more boost on it to gain back that 5 + 195 HersePowaa
Damn! I can only imagine how my Subaru with a Tomei Catback would sound. Love the videos and thanks for the upload. Im probably gonna be in the june group for orders but I am very excited. Having performance is awesome, but sound to me gives me smiles everytime I drive my car. Keep up the good videos
Excited to see where this goes, I don't see myself really giving much of a damn how fast the car is as long as I have all the good sounds.
Agreed 👍🏿
A lot people on here jumping to conclusions without the full numbers. Anyway sounds great looking forward to the test and tune numbers
It is literally the same sound of the EJ20 and I'm so happy
Thats what I call a subaru sound 🙌🏽
I get why people bash losing performance in the subaru forms but honestly I bet these sell really well. People like the sound, its part of the wrx/sti brand and now that there is finally a way to bring it back these will move out pretty quick.
this didn’t age well
@@ethanurowsky8846 Yes it did
Rumble is definitely back but sounds more like a UEL setup on a FRS/BRZ. Would love to see a Grimmspeed catted J-pipe and a Invidia R400 resonated setup on this header.
2:23 the sound
I've been shopping 2015+ and wasn't too sold on the sound. This could seal the deal for me.
Definitely unlocks the rumble, sounds a little more cleaned up than the EJ as well. Although I do love all the extra burbles and pops you get from the EJ
They make 2 variants of this ex-manifold. The one that’s on this clip is the unequal variant. There is a twin scroll version of this manifold which doesn’t have portions of the manifold piping restricted. Those of you who are interested in no power lose would be better looking into that. They also have a charge pipe kit as well for the FA’s which does look nice but I don’t know anyone running them though. Back on topic now, killer be does have a setup with duel external wastegates but it’s pricey. The choices are up to you in which one you guys pick but I’d like to see some numbers to see how much power lose/gain there is after install in Which considering other variables as well
I’ve never been this early for a video! 😎 so excited for this vid!
Hey Kevin will you be featuring a vlog where you are wrapping the headers?
Trevor Clunes I’d help you bro, but I’m not Kevin. Just an excited WRX owner/enthusiast 😅
I’ve been looking for a video of this forever. I want a WRX now
This is probably a terrible mod but it does sound awesome.
Just make sure you tune it then tune your car when you unload your trunk. Too much tuning, especially when protunes are about $600
Only an hp loss if you’re switching from aftermarket el headers to this uel, and it’s only 7-10 for both whp and tq
Daki Don’t forget your motor turns into a ticking time bomb.
Yohan lo how so if you get it tuned properly?
People love the rumble so much they gonna put UEL on their FAs. I'd have to say, the rumble is nice, but I wouldn't consider it a "performance" part. There is a reason the FAs have EL headers.
stuntman014 if u got a wrx let’s be honest u didn’t get it because of the performance lol
@@thatnissankid.3210 i did
@@suckmyaxe2904 More reliable engine, cheaper to make power, and a bunch of R&D coming.
@@thatnissankid.3210 the VA (MY15-20) has a good engine that makes cheap power, reliably too! It's not much thicccccccer then an STI and honestly an Ethanol kit and you're already outpowering a stock STI. It's a good Sports sedan for people getting performance on a budget...
EL only makes sense w/twin scroll.
Gotta do a cold start-up! and Drive-bys when it's safe to do.
My brother runs his 2015 wrx with Tomei unequal length headers a tomei full exhaust and a tomei straight pipe and it’s literally the loudest wrx ever also he has no tune he’s been running it for 2 years as his daily and hasn’t ever had a single problem and his car is clean af
The sound was a good sound. I have a 2017 base model WRX. I put fog lights and a vortex generator on. I have had it for 2 years. I think the car makes a great loud sound stock . Take care.
Who knew that headers would show the true hate in the Subaru community? A bunch of grown men mad at other grown man for mods that they put on their car that they paid for with their money. Dudes talking about performance loss but 90% of you STI and WRX owners don’t even track your cars. Bought a rally car to go to Mexico and drive in a straight line lol could have got a mustang for that, give it a rest already. Way to much hate already in the world why bring it to the car community?
Donald Lambert Welcome to the car community rookie 🙃
I agree. I had an '06 EJ (Totaled thanks to another driver) and a '19 FA. I got into the brand so much because it's a great community of people, at least from where I'm from. But man oh man, when these came out, it really brought out the hate. I am fully aware of the negatives to running these, but if others want to run it and deal with the possible issues, so be it. It's their car.
Karl M I think people hate on these so much is because now us FA guys can have the classic rumble that gave subies that distinct sound if we chose. I remember when the FA came out everyone hated them because they didn’t have the rumble so they weren’t considered “real subies.” Now that we can have it people are hating because there isn’t really anything that they can hate on now. Just my take
Joseph Strateger wouldn’t call myself a rookie
Preach Bruv, preach
Really appreciate you guys hauling ass to get this video out to us!
I had to run to my car , put my phone on DND, turn down the AC, plug my phone in to charge, grab a bag of chips, and lean my seat all the way back
Wayne Carrick for four minutes? 😂
The FA engine sounds great, even if it doesn’t have that legendary rumble. Modifying a car just for sound, especially since you might be losing not gaining performance, seems kinda ricer boi-ish, i genuinely hope that once we get some days , They show improved engine performance numbers, making this part way cooler
Well tbh if its for street do whatever you want. Speed is pointless when you have the police handing you tickets and taking your car away.
@@iluvrocknrap Yeah I don’t track my car so I wanted a car that I can enjoy driving + enjoy the sound of daily. I really do not like the sound of the FA engines
Rumble is Chad tho

The most beautiful rumble in the world of cars
Can’t efficiently run UEL headers w the 15+ wrx due to the twin scroll turbo.. to properly function as the designers intended a twin scroll need two even air flows going in each side, the unequal side will have different velocity and force cause your turbo to spoil improperly eventually leading to a blown turbo
It's possible....yes yes yes...and the rumble is like STI and sounds also like the EJ. Thank you for this video 👍🏼👍🏼
👍🏿 fuck yes
Thanks for the video....buuuuut it's been 4 months and still no dyno numbers of before and after UEL headers. Please make this video we all want to know.
STI snobs out in full force today!
Let's see what the dyno says, shall we?
It doesn't matter lol. I got a hawkeye that I'm building a long block for and I'm going equal length... Unequal does nothing for the car besides sound, it ruins the exhaust pulse for turbo spool and higher egt for cyl #4.
All reliable tuners in SoCal will not touch the car if these are on a FA-20 WRX - Just a heads up :)
Says who?
Shaneel Nand the tuners themselves.
I think it sounds fucking great. I loved the sound of my 15 wrx but wish it had the iconic rumble. These headers combine the sound of both engines!
OMG YES!!!!!!!! Sounds awesome, that's a surprising amount of burble for the header design. I am very interested in dyno results. Good job, and most importantly.... thank you!
Yes thats how all wrx should sound.
0:53 lolol "twin skwol" hehe 😂😂
Talking is hard 😂
These headers seem pretty legit, Tomei is a reputable brand. My buddy with a 2019 WRX got these and he only gained about 4hp but he gained 25 torque after the tune. Unequal length may not be the premium choice for HP gainz but it puts a smile on peoples face to have the iconic sound and it still provided some gains. I have no idea about reliability in a longevity aspect but a happy driver leads to a happier life. I bought Tomei unequal length headers for my 2016 STI and I still saw gains in both numbers, spool up is sooner and has much more of a mid range over stock in my opinion.. Yeah, I probably could’ve gone equal length and gained 10-15 more hp but you lose torque and the iconic sound when you go equal and that’s a bummer. I have zero regrets about Tomei headers and I doubt anyone else will either. Anyone who’s seriously interested in going unequal should not worry or listen to all the haters who say “all you care about is sound, your an idiot” because it’s your build and you will see positive gains over stock, even if they are minor. Gaining a whole new sound to your vehicle which is far superior to stock is a modification well worth the money!
Where or what kind of tune did ur buddy get?
Hey mate, after two years have you seen any issues with the car????
Hey man. I have tomei uel headers and was wondering what j pipe or exhaust to get with it

Asked BrenTuning if they had any thoughts on these and said "they haven't gotten any in to test but will most likely make the car slower. all for some noise." Great video though, that end result is tempting.
Not going to lie, sounds good. Losing the benefit of the twin scroll makes this an utter waste of time and money.

What's the exhaust setup on this car? Also, do you need to do any mods to the turbo location, or is it a straight swap and tune?

Why is everyone complaining so hard about these UEL ?? I mean it’s larger diameter than stock, and UEL has its uses too. It’s not like you’ll be losing performance and You don’t drive a damn racecar anyway. The little hp gain you get from either or isn’t much of a big deal, you can make it up elsewhere down the line plus The rumble sounds so crisp
Really, if you don't care about fuel efficiency and don't mind turbo lag. And we know high boost at low rpm is bad news for the fa20. It may not be that bad of a sacrifice. Having said that, I'd sit back and let some of the more eager people test the waters first....see how that goes.
Yeah but you got to remember the majority of the Subaru community are morons and this mod is to give them the rumble that they desire, so they can go and race on the streets and blow their shit up and blame it on Subaru's being shitty...

Is this a good product for just that little bit of extra rumble? I have all the power I want and need at the moment and I don't want to shell out for a whole new exhaust system. Mufflers seemed like an obvious choice but the existing ones are already stainless steel and seem pretty good. I'm hoping that this might be the way to go to get that rumble (not too loud as I have kids etc.).
