  • Using a clip with drag gives the horse relief, but not release, when he tries to pull back.

This was good! I appreciate the fact you used in your demonstration, a horse that would actually pull back. All too often I see in other videos, someone creating a hypothetical situation, where "if" this horse (the one they are demonstrating with) pulls back, this or that would happen, for why the method or approach they are using is an effective way to solve the problem, which isn't necessarily untrue or hard to understand, but for anyone who learns best by seeing the actual event occur, I feel it's much easier to visualize and apply a given training technique and more effectively put into practice themselves on their horse, by being able to see it actually happening the same way they would be experiencing it. I will frequently watch a video that I can understand the concept of what is being said about what to do, but then draw a blank on how to apply it myself, as there is occasionally some trait that is different from the horse in a video demonstration, from the horse I'd be working with where there are some exceptions that a hypothetical demonstration does not cover. (I hope that makes sense?)
Anyway, in short, I'm just saying thanks, for considering the use of a real time example in your demonstration, vs a hypothetical one. For me, it's the best way of all to learn and be confident about applying training methods for solving specific problems.
    😉👍⭐Great video!👉🥇🏆

Tie rings are a great invention, but this particular one is not great. I just bought one at a local tack shop and returned it because my lead rope didn't slide through it AT ALL. They say to use synthetic rope (not cotton) which is what I did, but it still wouldn't slide. The metal isn't slippery enough, and the ring that you put the rope through before looping it over the hook is just too small. For people who want or need a tie ring, who perhaps aren't as brilliant as the commenters on here who have never had a problem hard tying their horses, you might like the Blocker tie ring. There are plenty of videos on YT showing how it works. And understand that using a tie ring doesn't have to be a permanent deal. If you are rehabbing a horse, have adopted a rescue, or otherwise have responsibility for a horse whose history you don't know, maybe you don't want to hard tie the horse and THEN find out they don't tie, after traumatizing them even further. Start out with a tie ring and if the horse doesn't pull back, then discontinue using it if you want. Then there are horses who are tied with a ring and they pull back a shorter distance each time they pull, until they stop pulling at all. Depends on the horse.

I left you a question a few moments ago about my cincy horse. This same horse has a pull back problem when ties up in a trailer as well. The people who owned her before me never tied her up in their 8 horse trailer so when she was tied up to be brought to me she pulled back, felt being tied and ended up flipping her head back and forth while pulling back. Ended up almost sitting down before she broke the halter, at which point, she quit fighting. Needless to say, she was not tied up again nor since. However, this concerns me as I want to trailer her again with another horse in a 3 horse slant load trailer and am not comfortable NOT tying her. Interesting is the fact that at the fence, she will stand still and not pull at all if the lead is simply looped around the hitching post. She has stood like that for hours. Any help you could offer would be wonderful!

    Charles,
I have a horse that pulls back vilolenty.
Looks like a panic attack, real cinchy.
I'm not to bad at training but this one has me wondering what to do.
Good blood lines, beautiful confirmation. Buck Brannaman said to get rid of this one.
I going to dedicate 6 months before giving up on her.
Going to start over just as I would a colt,, your thoughts?

Selling tools won't replace training. But I'm sure you want to sell tapes more than tools. So where is the training tape about getting a horse to cooperate when you put the lead rope on and suggest he comes with you? I'm sure it's more than my method of putting chain links on the head stall to push on the head nerves between the ears. Any other suggestions?

I always think this is more about selling a product , horses pull back before they are taught to tie. Iv never not been able to tie my horses after teaching them I never needed fancy clips . Time and patience wins .

I need a clip for my new horse, here can I get one. Shipping to my area is hard so I was wondering if regular tack stores might have it.

I just don’t agree with these fancy tie rings that let the rope slip out. In my opinion it just teaches a horse TO pull back. So if a person decides to use this to train their horse not to pull back, how long do you have to keep using it? When will you know for sure that you can tie your newly trained horse up SOLID? Everyone that pushes these things never makes a video where they transition from this tie ring to a solid tie. You can’t use something like this forever. If you rodeo where there may be a 100 damn horses tied up, you can’t have one horse slipping 20 feet of rope out unattended. When I tie my horse up, I want him to stay right where I tied him, no exceptions. Tie them off solid right away with a good quality rope halter, and lead. Make the ground slippery where they’ll be standing so they can’t get enough traction to hurt themselves, and let them try to pull their damn head off. Some of the “old school” ways still work the best.

Anon ymous I had a horse who broke his tail because suddenly a plastic bag was flying into his back.. So he kept on moving backwards until the wall started to stop him and then he fell on his tail and squished it so damn hard… thats why am here and looking for a lead rope relief.. I will make sure to double tie it so he wont get a relief until its too damn serious situation that made him panic !
