Hi Ajay! Your store is like a musical oasis of sound and musical instruments. I bought a box Tanpura from you in 2005, when I was in India. You carefully tuned a number of them for me to play, so I could decide which one I wanted. Then a vocalist, all dressed in white, came into your store, picked one of them up, put it slightly OUT of tune, and began to play and sing! It was hysterical...
Thank you so much for your dedication to the making of the most amazing instruments in the world. So blessed am I to be playing a surbahar and a sitar made by you. Hare Om🙏 Many thanks as well for introducing me to Shree Jagdeep Singh Bedi!! Blessings from France

Hi Ajay, I love this video ! Hearing you talk about the qualities of resonance linked to the various traditions touches many sympathetic strings ! ... As I try to restring the sitar of my dear (departed) brother in law Abdul, who brought it overland from Pakistan to Europe in the early 70's... I make ceramic instruments and find myself trying to invent a tradition. I must say, I'm a bit jealous of the depth of the knowledge you and your family have acquired over the years ! Pots are a bit like gourds and it's true, it's all about the thickness. Thank you !
See, Basic Sa re ga ma is same on both the sitars But when it comes to advanced playing Styles change It totally depends upom your guru's playing style !
Hello Ajay-ji. Thank you so much for this informative video. I have just started with my first class to elarn the Sitar. The mentor teaches in U. VK style. For a beginner like me, at 37, which style will be easier to learn and grasp initially? And if I wish to make the transition from one style to the other, then shall it be difficult or just not worth to do so?
I notice your frets in the upper octave notes are bent in a different shape. The curve is sharp and then quickly falls away to almost flat. Why is that? Is it something to do with 'meend' and tension when pulling or is it easier to do 'tonk' on the sympathetic string? If you service my Sitar how long would it take and can you adust my frets to this design? I have moved the main string toward the chickari side to play Da stroke more easily and quickly.
@@AjaySharma-dr3nd Thanks for getting back. Next time I am in India I will ask you to do that adjustment for me. This the Sitar that requires that adjustment.. ua-cam.com/video/3qeSa54lbcU/v-deo.html

Hamare India me Sitar ka sthan bahut ucha hai, but sadly only for few people who like classical music. Yeh classical logonko fark nahi padta F aur G kahnese. Try to understand that by using western terms of tuning we are pramoting our instrument globally. I think there are much more sitar students outside India.
3:10 Ustad Vilayat Khan Style Sitar
10:10 Pandit Ravishankar Style Sitar

Beautifully explained..
thank you for a fantastic explanation
Thank you very much for the explanation but the music playing in the background is really irritating and it makes your speech inaudible.
Beautiful explaination..
Please upload more videos of this kind..
You're just amazing. ❤️🙏🏻
Sir the video was amazing and acknowledging but the background sound was too loud, which made it different to hear clearly what you wese saying.
Very nicely explained. Would like to see your very own personal sitar before buying a new one for myself.
very good and interesting video although the background music is too loud was struggling to hear the man speak.
Are you related to Rishab Rakhiram?
Nand in the background on sitar was little loud and disturbing.
Which style sitar is best for beginners?
See,
Basic Sa re ga ma is same on both the sitars
But when it comes to advanced playing
Styles change
It totally depends upom your guru's playing style !
The less decoration on the instrument, the cheaper it becomes. Thay is a factor.
depends which style you want to play. Listen to Ravi Shankar and Shujjat Khan and see which style you prefer.
