I worked as safety staff years ago at a VA (veteran’s) psych ward. There was a patient, much older than the rest, who was a WWII vet. He was a sailor stationed at Pearl Harbor in 1941 and a survivor of the attack. He had terrible PTSD. Most of his PTSD revolved around the days after December 7th, however, when he was ordered to do guard duty by the battleships at night. The banging at night and the helplessness of not being able to help his fellow sailors tore him apart. Especially as the banging slowly became less and less and then stopped altogether. He went on to live a fairly normal life, but as he began to mentally decline in his older years, the banging came back to torment him at night. Hearing him beg long-dead men to stop banging, sob as he profusely apologized for being helpless to do anything, and scream in torment was heartbreaking to experience and I spent many hours in the middle of the night sitting with him as he cried an ocean of tears and told me how they would not stop banging in the dark of his room.
I did not expect to read that. It's beyond horrific. That poor man having to listen but totally powerless to help? Is absolute torture. So glad he had kind people like you to help with his suffering.
What you wrote in this comment is exactly what I imagined as I watched this video, what I would feel if it were me hearing those bangs at night. I can’t even imagine how excruciating that must be, mentally and emotionally. That horrible feeling of helplessness and imagining what they must be going through, the feeling it of guilt and impotence.
Bless Fisk for recounting over and over what must’ve been some of the most horrifying days of his life to keep the memory of Clifford, Ronald, and Louis alive. I hope the dates on their tombstones can be changed, after the absolute horror they all endured, they deserve it.
Those men, effectively sacrificing themselves to save the rest of the men on board. Facing probably the most horrifying grizzly death imaginable definitely deserve the truth to come to bear and them getting post mortem a medal of valor of at least a silver star.
@@CrusaderCrunch These men died honorably but not willingly. They had no choice in the matter. They did not sacrifice themselves. Issuing citations would devalue the honor of all the servicemen that did willingly sacrifice themselves for their fellow servicemen and their country. I am fairly certain that if they could speak, they would say that they do not want medals.
the ending was too self-congratulatory... narcissistic. -entire doc's supposed to be about honoring the memory of these three men, and then the last scene she has to somehow involve herself and elevate her seat in all this... know what I mean? you're a documentarian, and an editor. do the story right, and do it just, but get over yourself. "The greatest cooks in all the world accept that mother nature *is the true artist... and they are the cook."
@@RustinBlack huh? did we watch the same video? she merely described her correspondence with him and what was said? how is that elevating her seat? and of course she's going to be involved, she made the video. sounds like you need to get over yourself, my guy.
As a United States Sailor, retired, you brought me to tears. There so many unimaginable stories like this. This was an incredibly well done documentary. Thank you for honoring these Sailors, these shipmates, and their families by telling this story. Powerful stuff.
A distant relative, Clay Cooper Rector, storekeeper 3rd class, is still entombed in the USS Arizona. In this video, I recognized Richard Fisk as the volunteer who helped me find his data page in a large binder when I visited the Memorial in 1995. Bless them both. Tomorrow is Veteran's Day, 2023.
The only flaw in your channel is that you don't do enough videos : Your research, fact-checking, photos, narration, pace, voice and humour at times are just...wow! Please do more.
It's sad that they did not give the parents the explanation of their children's death. They bravely huddled together in that room for over two weeks for survival, awaiting help, having faith in their company that they would be rescued. At least the sailors kept the story alive. But as you say, it's a giant metal maze and they really had no chance to escape, they were just delaying the inevitable.
IMO it's better they weren't told and the reporter was a a-hole for telling the sister. I mean the absolute heartbreak and pit of your stomach sickness you'd feel anytime you saw there photo or thought of them knowing they died like that would be unbearable. More then a few parents have contemplated/completed ending there lives and had there whole lives just destroyed from that feeling when there children died in less horrible ways. I think to actually tell them the full truth may have killed them. Like actually killed them. It's good to share and know this full truth now the parents are gone and the knowledge isn't going to cause further death/harm but at the time nah. Terrible Idea.
@@ClarkBK67 That’s not their choice to make. The military has actually done this sort of thing numerous times. I remember that famous NFL who joined the military and then was eventually reported slain in battle. lol The Army made him sound like he went out saving his guys. Reality? He was killed by friendly fire. I’m an Army veteran btw so I definitely support the military. However I don’t support them just flat out lying.
"I told him I'd do my very best." I actually cried when you said that. The detail, research, and care that was put into this video REALLY shows. You made a promise to that man, and you kept it.
This is not a thrown together Google image and clip art video with mediocre narration consisting of reworked Wikipedia articles. This is quality and deserves way more likes/follows. I hope this channel is around for a while.
its the lemino style i think he inspired a lot of people. There was a british lemino fora while he stopped uploading two years ago but it had the same white outline on the focus with the dark outside geometry style. Super clean imo@@eipg2001
Can I just say that the narration in this is utterly flawless. Genuinely my favourite of any of these documentary-style channels. An upload from Real Horror is always a treat.
I have heard this story probably tens of times by now, but this video finally allowed me to fully understand and visualize everything. This video was simply incredible. Not only did you tell their stories with correct facts but also with the respect they deserved. It's easy to get lost in true crime and dark media and forget that these were real peope. They lived real lives, had real dreams, and experienced real horrible deaths. None of us can ever even begin to grasp the horror these three young men must have felt in their last moments. All we can do is hear their story, take a moment of silence, and remember their names.
I TOTALLY agree. I've seen so many different versions of this story and this doc is hands-down the quintessential telling and presentation of this story. The music, especially at the very end of the doc as the woman is sitting in front of the computer having a brew and is watching Fiske tell the story, is absolutely haunting. The Cello key played in that piece is just incredibly haunting. I play Cello and that is a C Minor key, so that makes it extremely haunting. So everything about this documentary is as good as it gets. The telling of the men's lives and what was going on the night before and that morning right before the attack began, the mention of the men's families and where exactly they were from, and their hopes and aspirations. Just as another commenter said; this documentary REALLY makes you realize that these were real people with real lives and their deaths were as bad as death can be. This one will affect me for quite some time. I will definitely watch it at least a couple more times. It made me weep and it will do that every time I watch it. Thank you, RH, for giving this story the exposure and REAL telling and presentation that it absolutely deserves. I know that the families of these men certainly appreciate this documentary. 😔🇺🇸
I believe the intent of the story teller makes all the difference. Plenty of large channels have told it but even the best of them Tell it simply to have content that emphasizes the utter horror with not much details. This channel on the other hand does illustrate the horror also but with much more reverence and thoughtful accounting of the actual people, respectively acknowledging those peoples families which I find is important, much more impactful, and Infinitely interesting. Thank you!
this is very late, but i have to mention that your documentary work is astounding. in an environment so oversaturated with poorly researched videos begging for clicks by exploiting horrific true stories, it is incredibly refreshing to see a well researched, quality video essay that gives these men and their families and friends the respect they deserve.
You said you'd do your best to tell their story right, and my god, you absolutely did. I frequently put on videos to listen to in the background, but this one I had to really give my full attention to. One of the biggest criticisms I have about this kind of content, despite loving the genre as a whole, is that it often feels like creators are exploiting the victims of the story for entertainment. But you've always shown a true interwst in bringing light and giving the forgotten a voice. This is a story that will stick with me for a long time. It is truly tragic, and while I can't imagine the magnitude of grief felt by those connected to them, I do hope that at the very least, their tombstones can be changed soon. Great video as usual, RH.
Thank you, that really means a lot. It's such a hard balance to strike and I know that this more "empathetically toned" true crime/disaster content isn't for everyone, so it's so genuinely awesome to read that you connected with what I was trying to get across.
After repairs, this ship was used until 1947. The ship would get it's revenge against the Japanese in many battles including Iwo Jima and Okinawa. But deep in the ship, these two rooms were "safer" then the gunners up top. Imagine all the sailors stationed in those two rooms. Blissfully unaware they were working out of someone else's coffin. Listening to the ticks of the same clock that these 3 guys listened to.
SOURCES, NOTES & MORE: bit.ly/3ZZ5SvL (links to a public Patreon post) Sorry this took so long. I’ve been working really hard to try and improve my editing/animation which was (unsurprisingly) a very steep learning curve. Also, my usual caveat: I’m not a team, just one person and this is just a passion project/hobby. Please see sources above and give me a shout if you see in anything in this video which doesn't seem factually right, as I like to add in clarifications and corrections where relevant. Until next time 🙂 RH
Not even 20mins in yet, just had to pause & commend you on your incredible work, research… it absolutely shows that this is a passion of yours. Very happy I came across your channel!
You have a new member in me, I absolutely love your documentary and narration style. Usually I don't put beautiful and strange/horrific true stories in the same sentence, but your videos are like a paradox. Keep up the great work!
i’ve heard this story before but never did i know the backstory of the three men. thank you for not only shedding light on their story in such an incredible way, but showing who Ronald, Clifford, and Louis were.
I very, very rarely comment on videos but I just need to tell you that you have an undeniable talent for what you're doing. The writing, the editing, the construction of a narrative, etc. You are absolutely knocking this documentary thing out of the park. When I first started watching your channel, I legitimately thought this was a small UA-camr who was reuploading documentaries from some major company but now that I'm reading your comments and I know it's a single person doing these, I decided I should throw my hat in the ring and let you know you're doing a fantastic job. I am savoring every second of these videos and always look forward to the next one. Keep up the great work!
Wait what??? You’re telling me the woman voice narrating is actually the channel owner and the same person editing and producing the videos!? Who’s doing the 3D animation/modeling? I’m astounded! Incredible talent
Absolutely terrifying. I can't begin to imagine how these fellow sailors felt. Thank you for giving their story a proper voice for everyone to experience.
Im a grizzled old combat vet, not much phases me. But as I sit here polishing my motorcycle and listening to this story, i feel something that I haven't felt in longer than i can remember, tears running down my cheek. Thank you for a true and heart felt telling of these young men's last days
I wish I could do more to boost this story than just push two buttons and write a comment. This deserves far more attention. You did an amazing job telling their stories without sensationalizing their death or being unnecessarily gory (as most true crime and horror channels like to do). Thank you for doing your best for these three young men.
" Facts are stubborn things..." John Adams, Statesman, Massachusetts (2nd President of the United States). Be assured the spirit of those 3 sailors and others who gave their lives in similar circumstances have made their story come to light from the darkness of military secrecy. What you and others have done for them is commendable. Thank you ALL!
My grandma would cry anytime Pearl Harbor was brought up. She ended up losing a brother in WW2. Her Brother was in the Army; he bravely jumped on a grenade thrown into a group of his comrades to save them. And he was the only casualty of that grenade. His fellow comrades sent my grandma (very close) letters describing what happened, and how much her brother loved her, being so thankful for what her brother did, which I now have in my possession. 🇺🇸❤
It blows my mind how this channel doesn't have more subscribers or views. This is a different caliber of video editing, narration, and 3D visuals; everything is so amazing. I'm so glad to have stumbled across your channel! You guys really deserve much more recognition.
Once they post more content it will blow up! But it takes time to make good quality content like this. they are doing a great job & I like how they pace themselves just like Nexpo.
This story absolutely broke my heart. As an avid history lover this is something I had never even heard of, even in school. Hearing about how those three men had to be absolutely terrified, out of their wits scared, probably uneven to fully comprehend what was happening to them amidst the vivid hallucinations they would see in the dark brings tears to my eyes. Knowing that their follow soldiers knew they were down there, that they could eve hear them is something that I wouldn't even wish upon my worst enemy because it has to be the most heartbreaking thing to ever experience. Thank you for telling this story, for telling all parts of it. To the horrors they endured, to the rescue efforts, Fisks loyalty to this being remembered and even the injustice the families faced regarding their death dates. Thank you
this is genuinely one of the most heartbreaking stories i've ever heard. these three men were my age, doing more for others than i've ever done and yet they still died in such a horrible way. i cannot imagine the pain their families went through, and i also can't imagine the guilt and trauma that fiske had to endure for the rest of his life. they were all so young, they had so much life left to live and so much left to give this world. i hope that they are resting in peace now, knowing that they will never be forgotten.
Found you last night. I'm 3 stories/documentaries in and I've gotta say- wow. Just...wow. Your ability to tell a story...your narration. It's incredible. The best I've ever heard. You tell these stories so carefully and with so much emotion. I've never heard anything like it. I'm hooked. You're an amazing human being. Keep doing what you're doing. All of my love, from Texas 💖💖💖
Your channel is my new favorite for these kinds of videos. The quality is unmatched. Your respectful approach to each subject is extremely refreshing. Try not to overwork yourself and I hope you have a good day ❤️
I fully agree, and it’s the respectful and human approach that make these so compelling. I feel like I knew the three men, and nothing is ever done for sensationalism. Many of the videos in this genre can be really ghoulish and disrespectful at times, so I really appreciate the letter of professionalism in the storytelling.
So horrific. I feel terrible for those three young sailors. I’ve heard this story before. They said that the sailors that were working nearby started wearing earplugs because they couldn’t stand hearing the banging and knowing those guys were trapped. In the story I heard they were told to get back to work and just ignore it. I didn’t know that they were actually looking for them. That makes me feel a little better that they were trying to rescue them. What a horrible way to die. It would torture me to know my child died that way 😢😢😢. I love the narrator’s voices. It’s so soothing even though she’s telling us a real horror story. Btw, I love the research you did on this story. I feel like you honor those three men by telling their story in order that we may never forget them.
This! They didn't abandon them! That's really why I made this. They tried so, so hard to get to them but they just couldn't trace the source of the noise. And it broke them when they found out what happened. Fiske says he dreamed about it for years. I dread to think if the parents had still been alive and picked up the phone to the reporter that day. Can you even imagine? Thank you for your support and I'm glad you enjoyed it - if, you know, enjoyed is the right word...
Thank you so much for telling their story and for all the research you did for us!!! It is an important story that deserves be told. May we never forget!! I’m so happy that the parents never found out what happened. That would’ve only hurt them more.
Why would you think that they weren't looking for them? Surely you didn't believe that garbage. The unfortunate part is, these young men were only 3 of thousands trapped. People worked around the clock for weeks, trying to save young men.
@@VAHOSS But these were the last of the trapped to die. They looked for them for a time but then someone made the call to give up, long before they actually died. It wasn't like they were doing everything until December 23rd. Likely after a few days, anyone who could be rescued had been, the rest had perished. With these 3 people the last, obviously.
It's absolutely genius to use the effects on the hallucination part. I was sucked into their bit of horror, and that was only a glimpse of their suffer. I can't even imagine what they have been through.
I'm moved beyond words by this tragic story. You approached this with such care, specificity and respect. Just masterfully done. Such a special thing you've done here. Be proud.
I notice every time you post the quality of your documentaries just gets better and better! I was stunned by the work of this video, all aspects of it were performed perfectly. The best part was knowing you did very in-depth research in the respect and peace of those three men. Your channel is criminally underrated, and deserves way more views each time you post. I have never seen such careful handiwork and effort on topics like these performed so well before! It is quite terrifying too, these videos are way more scary than any media-related book, TV show, movie, or videogame could ever do. Much respect for not only covering the true story of these three men, but also putting in quality effort and honesty while doing so. I very much hope one day the UA-cam algorithm will pick up the quality of these videos and bring them to more light than ever.
The responsibility and weight of having all that documentation in hopes that Don Haines' original efforts may be continued must be so impactful. I hope this documentary reaches a vast audience and inspires a new campaign to return the truth to these men and their memories. Your channel is deeply moving overall and the care with which you report on the stories you choose are much appreciated.
I really like her speaking voice, including the pace, cadance, and especially the clarity. Also, it almost comes across in a very friendly, intimate way. The research is thorough, the chronological organization is smooth and informative. The background vibe is perfect...hinting at unpleasant news, but still drawing you in.
i have never ever in my life ever seen such a high quality documentary. I absolutely love that you explain peoples lives instead of just treating them as statistics. You put so much work in quality into your videos this is so extremely underrated i pray you get the recognition you deserve.
Dude the horror i felt when you talked about complete darkness freaked me the hell out. I absolutely cannot begin to understand what they must of felt down there. Rest in peace. Good god
That is a terrible way to go, and I can't imagine being above the surface and hearing the banging, knowing people were trapped and feeling helpless. Fiske was clearly haunted by it. I am glad he told the story over the years.
Could listen for hours and hours to this voice over. Perfect balance between objective storytelling and added personal comments too. The quality of some documentary channels here on the platform is unreal! Thank you for once again a fascinating story.
I rarely actually cry but this documentary moved me to tears. Those poor boys. Their poor families. Beautifully told with due care of the humanity of those tragically impacted, thank you for sharing the truth so long denied.
Seeing the photo of the sunken ship 3 days after the attack gave me absolute chills. Knowing that those three men were still alive, trapped, and completely inaccessable to the divers is soul crushing. Edit to add: Finishing this documentary made me burst into tears. Thank you for giving this story the honesty and respect. I can't believe you obtained the original photo of Clifford last seen alive. Please treat the items well, although I have no doubt you will.
I am so touched by the amount of work you put into honoring these men. messrs fisk and haines, too. thank you for this informative video & the beautiful tribute.
This is so insanely well made. 15:12 that transition and title card gave me actual chills. I also absolutely love the narrator's voice. So crisp. Also the way you went over the evidence of how it was treated was extremely good, and very kind.
Thank you for a detailed and beautifully done deep dive into their story. I'm just rehashing what everyone has said already, but this gave me goosebumps and taught me something that I didn't know about Pearl Harbor. I love your channel and just wanted to give you that extra boost of support
The narrator’s voice is PERFECT! I could listen to her for hours on end. Additionally, the content flows and keeps the listener totally engaged. A brilliantly crafted video channel.
This is the kind of quality I'd expect to see from a full production studio- seriously amazing work. These poor people deserve to have their stories told and you do so in a very informative and empathetic way. Please keep doing what you're doing!
Real Horror this story is not only tragic and horrifying but it has a horrifying realisation to it (If 3 sailors could survive for 2 weeks within a ship fully submerged under water then just think how many other people could've been trapped alive on board every shipwreck throughout history??)
Look up a man named Harrison Okene, his story has a much happier ending. When his story hit the news cycle I remember being completely horrified by the fact that there are worse things than death that could happen when a ship sinks. You can actually find the video of the moment he was found.
As far as deaths go, CO poisoning is actually apparently pleasant. You kinda just get super tired, and fall asleep. In the grand scheme of things, the three boys definitely went out with relative ease, which is a nice sentiment considering the absolute anxiety and terror they must’ve experienced leading up to the final minutes.
@@coenisgreat That is only partially correct. Patients with chronic obstructive lung (COPD) have chronic elevated CO2, this causes their urge to breathe to reverse and depend on dropping oxygen levels (giving this kind of patient supplemental oxygen will stop their breathing). In the case of the three sailors the ever increasing levels of CO2 in the localised atmosphere would have a similar effect on the mechanism of breathing as COPD. Causing hypercapnia, respiratory acidosis, and eventually a painful death.
Now THIS is storytelling at its best, putting mostly all other popular storytellers to shame. Thank you! I pray that this message finds you well!
This is the best UA-cam documentary I've ever seen. A true feat of empathy and artistic brilliance that left me both captivated and devastated. Thank you for telling these boys stories.
I'm mostly a lurker on UA-cam and rarely comment on videos but I just want to say that I absolutely love the way you present your documentaries. The amount of research, the narrative, the way you present everything is just great. I've come to the point where videos on youtube are just white noise for me when I work/do something but your documentaries make me drop everything and really immerse myself in your work. I actually teared up watching this. Thank you! I'm looking forward to more of your work and have turned on notifications (which I rarely do as well lol)
I managed to keep it together all the way up until the rolling of the closing credits and the image of Fiske on the little TV screen was all I needed and I was sobbing down in my soul! Not because I'm so great at keeping my emotions in check but because I think I held my breath the entire production. Dear God they were just kids. Bravo! A superior documentary. I couldn't hit that subscribe button fast enough! Hell, I think I triple clicked it.
My Papa survived the Pacific but for other reasons, had his records suppressed. The results of which have left unalterable genetic marks in his children, down to his great grandchildren. This was so well done that it made me tear up, and that's not easy. Thank you for your respect and decency.
Thank you for this. Between 1980 and 1984, my family was stationed on Hickam AFB in Honolulu. When you live in Hawaii, on Oahu especially, you live in the shadow of Pearl Harbor. You grow up being told the stories of the giant bullet-holes in the buildings, kept unfilled in the honor of what happened; the story of how the Japanese pilots oddly left the water tower standing, believing it to be a religious shrine; walking over the final resting places of all the sailors who lost their lives when the Arizona sank in 9 minutes. It's part if the culture now. My father had told me this story of the men trapped in the hulls, the knockings that continued until the 23rd (I think he said the 24th), but erroneously he had believed it to be from the Arizona. It was not until just now that I realized his recalling of events was skewed and he never knew it. It was the Virginia, though highly possible banging was coming from other ships, too. But I think this was the story he had told us kids and since I hold a very soft spot in my heart for all things Pearl Harbor (except the movie, that was bad) , it touched me quite deeply. It is, in fact, worse than I imagined. Your retelling was amazing and the correction of details is appreciated. Again, thank you! And well done!
My husband and I were also stationed in Hawaii from 1980 to 1984, but in the Navy. My father was a survivor from the USS Arizona. He visited the memorial while we were there but never told anyone at the memorial that he was a survivor.
this caused such a chill down my spine finishing this. the way you covered and talked about these boys was like they were an old family friend and the care you have for these boys and their story is SO evident. thank you so much for telling their story ❤
The amount of effort and detail you go into is unmatched. You are beyond respectful and you are keeping the stories of these people alive. I really commend you.
Your explanation and methodical narration sheds light on so many aspects of their story. And your approach is so incredibly (almost painfully) empathetic/human. We are reminded not only of the horror that happened but the tragedy of those left behind. Thank you for the tremendous effort and research that you put into your work!
...I am speechless. The story itself is devastating, but the way in which the documentary told it was top-notch cinematic gold. This Truly succeeded in what the creators had set out to do, and in the way the Don Haines had hoped for it to be done; by telling the whole story and telling it right, giving these guys the coverage they deserved and had been denied for decades. I am blown away by the emotional retelling of this story that many of us have heard of before in some capacity, either just randomly in passing or finding it briefly covered in a video covering 'dark' stories and history like it, but never really having the chance to hear a retelling that worked so hard to tell it in such detail as this one does. These three men deserved their stories to be told and heard, and it should have been told decades ago, but I hope if there is some sort of afterlife we go to when we die, that they each are finally able to be at peace knowing their story has been told in its truth, finally. Great job to the creator and all who helped pull this together into the true treasure of a documentary it is. Absolutely superb storytelling that actually does the whole situation some justice by conveying the intricacies of why it happened, the emotional toll it took on those who were there when it happened and heard their bangs against the hull until they ultimately went silent, and the harrowing experience those three sailors must have endured within those two pitch black rooms of the USS West Virginia for at least the amount of time confirmed by the calendar markings, but which could very well have been far longer. This was an experience in and of itself to watch for me, as a viewer. It really brought home the emotions of just how tragic this really was in intricate detail, and im certain it is going to stick with me long after I click out of this comment section and move onto to the next video I choose. For that, I am grgrateful, as this is a part of history that should never be forgotten, and the three men deserve to be remembered even all these years later.
Every once in a while, I see a documentary that takes my breath away. It's been a while since that's happened. Until I watched this documentary. I can't think of a better way to pay tribute to these heros, than to have their story told correctly in a video like this that will live on forever. Thank you for this tribute 🙏 I hope they can rest peacefully now. 💜 💜💜
My lord. The research. The writing. The narration ( her accent to my American ears sounds so serious, so heavy with emotion at some points, and haunting in the best of ways) The video itself….This is phenomenally done. And every bit of content you upload is equally as good!
@RH, I don't ever comment on UA-cam but I just wanted to say that you are such a talented documentary maker: the narration, the music, the research, the impeccable timing, the transitions throughout, and your amazing ability to honor the victims and properly portray the horrific situations in which they found themselves. The amount of work you put into these videos is nothing short of astounding. I, like I think most folks watching your channel, get excited everytime I see you post. I've been hooked on your channel since watching your Nutty Putty Cave and Helios documentaries. Thank you so much for doing what you do!
this is the last of your videos i watched, having started with _the family that vanished_ and been hooked enough to binge all the rest, but it's going to stick with me for a long while. i love the way you humanise the victims of these events. you're a phenomenal storyteller, and i can't wait to see more
I really love the story of multiple people's attempts to keep this story alive. The careful telling and retelling is like the relaying of a single torch in the dark. Hearing about your contact with David Haines made me feel really strongly. Thanks for what you do.
What a heartbreaking story. More people should see this video. You told their story, as devastating as it was, with so much compassion. Thank you for this!
This was an absolutely incredible video. The amount of respect you have for the victims of tragedies is sadly a rarity, and it’s so refreshing. The way you tell stories really hits hard emotionally.
Why isn't this on Netflix/HULU is my question. The way you narrated the most critical moments of the three young men locked up in that room shook me: the descriptions, the pauses, the honor you payed through every detail. Amazing.
I haven't started the video yet but want to tell about my Grandpa (mothers father) who was on the West Virginia when it was sunk in Pearl Harbor. He assisted with the recoveries when it was finally resurfaced and only dpoke a little about the horrors discovered. He told me about these men and ive never forgotten that discussion. I have many of his belongings that were in his foot locker and were recovered. One is his Chief Petty Officer badge with the name of the ship on it.
The name of your channel is a perfect choice. The horror of your content is brilliantly portrayed, without gratuitous violence or the elements that we see in a typical Hollywood horror story. Just a starkly quiet telling that chills your listeners down to our core. Thank you for doing such an amazing job!!❤️
Your channel has become one of my top favourites pretty fast. The brilliant way you piece stories, the stories you choose, your perfect narration style, your tone of voice! I absolutely love your content! Hope you'll be able to make more of these great documentaries more often. And thank you for bringing the story of these poor men to light; they indeed deserved much more.
Thanks! All I can is wow, your narration is the some of the best I have heard. The visuals are stunning. You have mastered this craft. In a subject I didn’t even think I would be interested in you kept me on the end of my seat. Good job.
Just discovered this channel and WOAH I am blown away by the production quality; the visuals and the narrative really grip at you. I was totally drawn into this event. I also appreciate how you went into the lives of these victims before diving into their terrible fates; they were people with dreams and people who loved them. What a tragic ending to these young men's lives. Thank you for honoring them.
This was just utterly heartwrenching to watch all the way through, imagine being one of those men trapped in a darkness that swallows you whole and all you have is each other and you try again and again to make yourself heard so you have that chance at being rescued but it all fails, life is such a precious thing and yet even after these men had died waiting for the chance at being rescued the government didn’t recognize that for them and made no effort to inform the parents, imagine being one of their parents and not knowing where your sons body is and if he suffered at all. Anyways this video is masterfully done, I’m not much of an emotional person but the storytelling and the way I felt connected to these men made me almost boohoo sob, well done
The reason your content is so much better than other “horror” UA-camrs is you don’t tell the stories off a list, you tell them as human stories. Really glad I found your stuff
As a soldier I can tell you, you did great. Whenever I watch a piece like this I always say "bless ya" to the people involved (Ronald, Louis, Clifford). My way of coping with the horror Im learning about I guess. A great channel, stories investigated and told in an accurate & respectful way. Best wishes.
She alluded to the shadiness that went down with his the navy allowed the Japanese to get on top of The base without report. Wish they would go into detail so people could know the truth
The amount of effort put into this video genuinely shocked me. At first I clicked expecting a generic UA-cam documentary for me to kill time with, but hearing of the creator’s efforts to reach out to people involved, get relevant equipment, and ensure their story was straight pleasantly surprised me. Keep up the amazing work I can tell this channel is going to grow very quickly!
I've read about these cases 30 years ago, but there, it was only given that it occurred, not how or who the men in question were. Thank you for shining light on a story that I may not have remembered constantly, but somehow has never left me completely. You did these men justice.
Just recently found your channel today and I've gotta say the quality you bring to these videos is just...off the charts. Absolutely phenomenal and very moving. Keep up this amazing work and I hope your channel grows and gets the recognition it deserves.
your ability to tell a story can't be overstated. this was phenomenal. I'm going to crack a bottle and watch the rest. your reverence for the nature of the topic, and ability to bring it together into something that strikes such a deep chord is truly astounding. Please, for as long as it feeds your soul to do it, do not stop making these docs.
The audio, the imagery (the 3D models and animations are amazing), the suspenseful atmosphere, all perfectly executed. I really admire your talent and hardwork for your documentaries, well done!!
This is the first channel I’ve enjoyed so much that when I realized I had watched them all. And nothing compares, I watched them all again. And enjoyed it just as much. Thanks for this work, it’s just great!
The narration and storytelling within this video is some of the best I have EVER heard. The amount work that had gone into this video must have enormous!
So in depth....the amount of time you spend in each of your videos is phenomenal. It's something you see scarcely on youtube nowadays....sadly. I mean I understand, because YT isn't the best platform to put a lot of time and effort in videos anymore like years ago. But that makes it even more special that some still do! So I thank you for sticking around and showing off your talent for video editing and deep diving into the facts for these horror stories. I read before that you don't have much time to make these videos....but the many viewers here including me, really appreciate the effort.
I honestly cant believe this channel is run by a single person. This documentary and all others on the channel are top notch, definitely looking forward to more videos!
Everything you do here is top notch, from the research to the animation to the STORYTELLING my lawhd your storytelling is fantastic, and everything in between! And that you're doing this all on your own!! Mind blown, you are brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing ❤

I keep checking back to this amazing channel, desperate for a new video, after recently watching the rest. Thank you for the superb quality of these documentaries, I cannot imagine the time and effort that must be required. Everyone involved in the making are amazingly talented, keep up the stellar work!
Oh my god… poor guy, that would be horrific.
I did not expect to read that. It's beyond horrific. That poor man having to listen but totally powerless to help? Is absolute torture. So glad he had kind people like you to help with his suffering.
Awful. The things these brave men have gone through shouldn't be forgotten, lest we repeat it..
What you wrote in this comment is exactly what I imagined as I watched this video, what I would feel if it were me hearing those bangs at night. I can’t even imagine how excruciating that must be, mentally and emotionally. That horrible feeling of helplessness and imagining what they must be going through, the feeling it of guilt and impotence.
fucking hell thats horrifying
Bless Fisk for recounting over and over what must’ve been some of the most horrifying days of his life to keep the memory of Clifford, Ronald, and Louis alive. I hope the dates on their tombstones can be changed, after the absolute horror they all endured, they deserve it.
Fisk is the real hero of the story
@@aroseprincehe really is. The truth is always more powerful than a lie. It comes out, and it stands unwavering.
Those men, effectively sacrificing themselves to save the rest of the men on board. Facing probably the most horrifying grizzly death imaginable definitely deserve the truth to come to bear and them getting post mortem a medal of valor of at least a silver star.
@@CrusaderCrunchmedal of valor nothing less
@@CrusaderCrunch These men died honorably but not willingly. They had no choice in the matter. They did not sacrifice themselves. Issuing citations would devalue the honor of all the servicemen that did willingly sacrifice themselves for their fellow servicemen and their country. This is some of the best documentary work I have seen in general, let alone on UA-cam.

Agree! The voice is perfect for these stories.
Cringey asmr horror lady. 🤢 No thanks. Closed captions work just fine here.
That's awesome to read. And same. I thought I really knew all there was to know until a few months ago.
Thank you!
But still monetized it, what ghouls.
Please post more! I would love to support this channel as it creates more content
this is very late, but i have to mention that your documentary work is astounding. in an environment so oversaturated with poorly researched videos begging for clicks by exploiting horrific true stories, it is incredibly refreshing to see a well researched, quality video essay that gives these men and their families and friends the respect they deserve.
Thinking about what those poor young men went through just brings me to tears. Thank you for your empathy and hard work. Your work is outstanding.
What a terrible, unimaginable way to leave this world, may their souls rest in peace. Thank you for covering their stories and sharing them with us.

My grandma would cry anytime Pearl Harbor was brought up. She ended up losing a brother in WW2. Her Brother was in the Army; he bravely jumped on a grenade thrown into a group of his comrades to save them. And he was the only casualty of that grenade.

I watched the hiking video 3 times because the narration is so good and the writing is superb.
Annoying voice reading the script.
No one understands making the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of preserving everything you hold dear better than the Americans and the French.
It's absolutely genius to use the effects on the hallucination part. I was sucked into their bit of horror, and that was only a glimpse of their suffer. I can't even imagine what they have been through.

@@mylesjordan3879 well, that’s rather unpleasant, actually
I believe the intent of the story teller makes all the difference. Plenty of large channels have told it but even the best of them Tell it simply to have content that emphasizes the utter horror with not much details. This channel on the other hand does illustrate the horror also but with much more reverence and thoughtful accounting of the actual people, respectively acknowledging those peoples families which I find is important, much more impactful, and Infinitely interesting.
Wow, thank you so so much :)
This needs to have a bigger audience… An absolutely unreal, beautiful, and respectful documentary about these three men
This was an absolutely incredible video.
The skill and detail put into this documentary, coupled with the sensitivity towards the young men who died puts it in a league of its own.
God bless Richard Fiske, Haines and others for all of their efforts to honor the memories and bravery of these fellow fallen sailors.
Thanks! Fantastic research. Absolutely chilling piece of history...
Thank you so much!
I had never heard of these three men before, thank you for telling their story in such a unbiased, yet very human and emotive way.
This is a magnificent piece of journalism. Thank you for digging and exposing. Don't stop; we need you.
She alluded to the shadiness that went down with his the navy allowed the Japanese to get on top of
The base without report.
Thank you so much for sharing ❤
you're up there with JCS as the two S-tier creepy documentary channels. incredibly detailed and polished work - i expected 10x the number of subscribers!!
Incredible filmmaking. Thank you for a riveting documentary.
Thank you so much 🙏
I keep checking back to this amazing channel, desperate for a new video, after recently watching the rest. Thank you for the superb quality of these documentaries, I cannot imagine the time and effort that must be required. Everyone involved in the making are amazingly talented, keep up the stellar work!
