It was the 1990s and Bill Clinton was President, so a lot of TV shows back then were filled with sex references. Yeah, I know it might come as a shock to those either not born then or too young to remember, but, hey, that's why Wikipedia exists.
2:39 it would have been cool if you had mentioned The Abyss, seeing as it is also a James Cameron film, it is not talked about enough, and the computer technology used to render the water tentacle in the film helped not only make the liquid metal of the T-1000 possible, but came out in August of 1989, less than 2 years before Terminator 2: Judgement Day (july 1991)

@@NitpickCritic well, at 2:30 you mentioned the infancy of CGI at this point, and then talked about Terminator 2: Judgement Day. both are related to The Abyss. witch as I already mentioned had helped evolve CGI because it literally needed technology that didn't exist at the time, and the technology was helpful with making CGI face scanning, plus made water effects look better. There is a good video made by JoBlo videos on the abyss
I assume (but I am not entirely sure, because I can't remember) that some of the same technology was used to make the mask film
That's one of the most in-depth reviews I've ever seen, fantastic job! Only thing I'd like to add is Tress MacNeille and Jeff Glenn Bennet worked on insane amount of animated shows and movies, the list of which also include Land Before Time sequels and TV series, Jeff voiced Petrie and Tress voiced Petrie's mother.
Thanks, I appreciate your compliment a lot! And yeah, unfortunately I couldnt add much more about trivia,...it annoyed me enough when editing the final video. But yes, there's lots of overlap for these voice actors.
The main character from the movie, Stanley Ipkiss, for when he puts on the Mask, he does his cartoony antics. A lot of it translates easily into an animated tv show, which I’m so glad that there is one. A fine continuation of the movie.

Not to mention a new Mask comic came out recently; “I Pledge Allegiance to The Mask”. There’s 2 issues so far.
I remembered The Mask: Animated Series from the 90's and it's great that first season is on DVD. But I still wished the rest of the season 2 and season 3 were released as well or perhap have all three seasons together as a complete DVD collection instead.

Also, SETTLING THE SCORE: Randy Edelman contributed some music to the show--I will hazard a guess and suggest Kellaway's theme and a light, whimsical piano tune. These themes are heard within the extras on the _Mask Platinum Edition_ DVD. Perhaps these cues were meant to be in the movie but went unused. If that's the case, then Edelman decided they were good enough for the show.

There's been rumors of a reboot of this cartoon along with a supposedly direct sequel to the original movie just over a year ago, with Jim rumored to be coming back in both projects, but nothing's been confirmed as of yet. Still, do you think the show should be remade, and do you think the sequel should retcon Son of the Mask? As for that last one, I know the movie is horrible, but there were a few moments of genuine laughs (even if it's a little forced), and the concept of Loki being equally as strong as the Mask since he created it is interesting, even if it ruins the mystery behind the Mask's origins, and I personally think that that movie's events should be acknowledged in some form. What do you think?

It's really worth actually seeing UA-camrs do actual research when it comes to doing reviews and it's definitely rare to see someone do a review on the Mask the Animated Series. You're really managed to capture a lot of the great aspects of the series from its flaws right down to its high points along with even putting in a bit of the comic book and movie history behind it. I still watch this show to this day I totally know what you mean it's a wonderful show and I wish you to come back it should come back it didn't have no really crazy story line Continuum so we can come back and do anything you imagine the mask with an iPhone? I think that be the coolest thing ever.

@@NitpickCritic That's the issue. I've got the 8th episode, Double Reverse (for fandom reasons), and it had the THT logo.. But nobody has the balls to tell if the DVD ones has it or not.. Wich they shouldn't. Same goes to the actual Amazon Prime Video.. Nobody knows, and i can't buy the 2$ eps because i'm not from the US (EU here) and nobody's helping me.. Sadly you cannot DL the episodes , just stream 'em, wich's a shame

There's actually a follow up to the mask/ace Ventura episode. The first part was presented in The Mask, and the second part was presented in Ace Ventura. Stanley followed him all the way to Africa (or wherever Ace Ventura lived on that show, I forgot).
David .Barrantes You are correct, there is a second part. But even then, that episode does not close out the show decently. It ends with Ipkiss/Mask with Ventura fighting over the affection a girl and thats it. Not how Id want a show finishing its last season.

30:09 seems to be Sam Diamond played by Peter Falk in the movie Murder by Death (1976) which itself was a play on the famous Sam Spade from Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon. Big fan of The Mask here. Really love this vid. Came across it too late tho.

A mad fan of the show since its inception, it is perhaps one of the most underrated ones to air. After seeing the show not catching on among Indian kids here I kind of became a closeted fan. Your video was the first ever full length honest review of the show I came across and am really glad someone did it. You covered literally everything. Respect man.

One of the my favorite series in childhood.
I steel remember my VHS with this. There was a lot of these cartoons from 1st season.
There was also a terrible translation and the monophonic voiceover of all the characters.
But in its own way it was a warm tube time.
..
Now there is a good dubbed voiceover but I am watching with the old version from time to time.
Although, in fact, right now I am watching the first episode in English to understand how it sounded in the original.
By the way on my tape was one episode of the series Free Willy.
Unfortunately, I still can not find this series with a translation into Russian.
As if no one did it.
Meanwhile, the series raises important issues regarding environmental pollution. And in its own quality atmosphere.
I remember as a child I was kind of scared by these assholes made from shit and sticks.
These freaks reminded me of a series of Pokemon ... something about Muk and greamers??sorry spelling not sure about that.

Your gripe about how stupid Edge City's residents are is, believe it or not, entirely in keeping with the Stanley Ipkiss story of the comics. Stanley's rampage as Big Head is only funny because everyone else is a brain-dead caricature.

Nitpick Critic Agreed. And so far, I know at least Season 1 is officially on DVD, thanks to Warner Archive.
The animated series imo took the way the cuban pete song made everyone sing and dance, and just makes it so when the mask is around things just get silly. It's not a problem imo, it's just the mask's magic affecting the people of edge city, giving them cartoon logic.

The Mask The Animated Series is on Amazon Prime Video and iTunes, though you will have to play to get all the episodes or whatever individual episode you want to see again.

Cheaper animation studios doing crappier jobs?
If it did drop, then it wasn't that dramatic a change (Flight as a Feather -- a.k.a., the episode with the dynamite-clad stripper -- had pretty good animation, but Rain of Terror was a bit lacking). I know the animation from season three was more rubbery and cartoonish, but it fits with the show.

I remember seeing this on CBS and some local independent stations. Season two was put in syndication while seasons one and three were on CBS.

the "objectification bad" argument killed the whole video. We shouldn't let these insane overreactions be normalized.
A suggested naked woman in a kids show is not okay but things like What a Cartoon or Ren & Stimpy were full of traumatizing moments that were way worse back in the day and could actually have a dangerous effect on the minds of children. But no, we most protect women from being "sexualized" and "oppressed" give me a break.
