Great video! Thanks for posting about Apivar!
No problem 😊
Thanks mite!:)

Hi Gruff, great info mate , did all mine last weekend with a apistan and apivar just to see if there is a difference I’ve been using apiguard the last couple of years so all change this season. Good luck with all your treatments gruff mate.
Thanks Peter, it’s always good to rotate your varroa treatment 😊
Again thank you for all your help any time now once the supers off then treat excellent advice as always . If you were leaving supers on to feed through the winter will it affect there feed ?
It won’t effect it for the bees at all. 😊

Thank you our. Great help
😊
That’s a good question. You will need to contact the manufacturer. I now it’s got a very low withdrawal. But you may need to take the supers off treat and feed a little, then put the supers back on.
Or it may be fine to leave them on as you’ll have several months after treatment before you will use them again.
Safer to give them a shout to find out 😊
Gruff great video again, i have 5 2 frame splits off a previously untreated hive. I have apitraz so was going to put 1 strip in each but they are currently queenless ( new queens coming tuesday from Laurance) so would ypu advise not to treat until she is in and laying or treat before? I just was thinking regards the chemical interfering with her pheromone.
I’d treat once she’s been laying a few weeks to be safe
I really like your "hive tool" with the grabber. do you know where you got it or specifically what it is clled?
We sell a similar one on our website 😊
Would you use four strips on double brood, i.e. two lower two higher ?
I think the pack says 3 strips in double brood....but I cant remember.
Great video. So we have just transferred a nuc into a brood box. It was suggested to put a treatment in now during the derth how long should we leave it in before a flow starts again
There’s no derth now, the flow will start immediately!
Do it in late August or September. Apivar is a 8 week treatment
@@gwenyngruffydd thanks. We are in ballycastle ,. Northern Ireland. Not just as warm as you guys things are a little behind here.
How effective is this stuff ??? And can u treat anytime of the year ? ..... if I'm not collecting honey can i use it whenever I want to in the season ?
I would always recommend treating in the autumn just before winter.
This is very effective
First year beekeeper here, should I start treating now..? I have two colonies both was swarms I caught the end of May.. one doesn't have a super on,, the other one does, but I live in sunny South Wales and it's been appalling weather... but both colonies are doing really well in 14x12 hives.. so thinking of taking super off this week get in them ready for the winter..
Yes that’s what I would do. Supers off treat and feed them if their light
Brilliant, thanks for the fast reply.. 👍
When I checked them last week, the brood box frames was full of honey, and brood in all stages, so do I need to feed yet..?
Not if it’s full of honey
How long do they last in the packet once opened. I only have 2 hives so would only need 4 strips per treatment? Would they last throughout the season?
Good question. Probably best to ask the manufacturer.
But I would have thought if you seal up the bag tight it should be fine.
But check to be safe.
What I'm confused about is the number of strips in the pack. The strips come out in 2 piece pull-apart form, so if i order a 12 pack, is it 12 two piece strips or is it 6 two piece strips?
Also I see this video is 2 years old, are you still using Apivar? I've heard from a couple of channels that it wasn't working for them very well anymore. Curious if you've had an issue using it since this video was made?
In the U.K. their 10 strip packs. 2 strips per hive so does 5 hives.
There are talk of resistance but I have not seen it in this part of the world yet.
Yes I still use Apivar.
It's almost cool enough weather to treat here.
What part of the world are you from?
@@gwenyngruffydd I'm in southwest Iowa in the United States.
How hot does it get?
@@gwenyngruffydd it has been in the highs of 90° F + some here lately.
That’s HOT!!
That is actually designed to stick into the comb not on top of the bar
You lose half of the strip then. Makes no sense....the bees need to rub on the strip for it to be effective?
ebay Apivar
I would go for the proper brand
