Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I've been shooting for quite a while now and have tried various positions. I've never heard the term 'lollipop' before but that's what I was doing for a while until I realized my rounds were going low. Obscuring the red dots (on the target, battleships!) with the sights cured that and I was hitting dead on. Thanks, doc, you calmed my nerves. :)
I'm a new shooter...this video speaks volumes I will use to help increase my accuracy and Competence. Equal height, equal light...got it. Now I gotta practice it.
New gun owner here, I’ve managed to do decently without this knowledge of proper sights aiming, but this should make my whole range day much better tomorrow, thanks for the great information!
Great explanation on the fundamentals of sight alignment. I enjoy watching Carry Trainer training videos as they are insightful. I hope to be able to attend a training course one day.
It's interesting that pro competitive target pistol shooters have the sights aligned, such that the front post is below the target, not covering it, and it should be gapped below the target to match the lateral space between the front sight and the rear sight posts.
Chin level, no focusing on any sight front or rear, then fire. Works for me every time. Or from the hip so Mr. Bad Guy can't grab it from Bad breath to 7 yards also works. Jab it out there so Mr Bad Guy can grab it that is up to you. I seen far too many times in demos how easy it is to disarm anyone, poke it out there and they grab it.
I got a cheap pair of fiber optic sights and the back is a least an 1/8 of an inch higher than my front fiber, so close distance have to do a six O'clock hold and at 15-25 yards have to drop my front fiber to where I barely see it, so my rounds don't go 6 - 10 inches high...... Lesson learned, need some better sights because u get what u pay for!
Do you have any advice for people that wear bifocals? I don't want to go to a shooting glasses because I'll never wear them on the street so they're in practical for concealed carry. In order to see the sites really well you have to tilt your head up and not easy to remember especially if you're traumatized by an event. I'd be interested in anything you have to say.
I’m new to shooting and hopefully someone here in the comments can help me. When I try to shoot with both eyes open and focus on the front sight the target isn’t just blurry there’s two of them and I can’t get a good accurate shot
When you aim, what are you doing with your eyes? In some of your other videos, I notice your eyes are both open. I always close my left eye when I shoot. Is this a bad habit?
this is random but I forced myself into correct shooting(the sight line up as well is shooting with both eyes open) and now everyone says my aim is crazy good. All I did was follow directions. It applies from Nerf pistols to Glocks. Crazy.
Not when you can’t see at 3-4 feet in front of you. Lol. I now need glasses as I can’t see the front or rear as well like I used to . Now went to a red dot
this is how i started pistoling…. however it’s not true… different OEMs implement different iron sight configurations… important when your sights aren’t adjustable… this video explains the TACTICAL sights, typically implemented on a GLOCK…. other OEMs as i find out with my CZ uses CENTRE HOLD, or 6 o’clock HOLD… Good Luck!! Peace
Any suggestion for those of us who wear bifocals? The front sight won’t focus unless we tip our head back and that causes misalignment. Thanks in advance for your reply
The regular procedure for contacts for someone w/shortsight and farsight(usually after 40) is one contact w/rx for shortsight and the contact lens on the other eye is for farsight. This means the shooter has to be sure which eye to use especially in a haste situation. Other method which is used is the contact has the bifocal on the the edge of the contact and the contact has more weight there to keep the bifocal on the bottom but the user has to have the ability to move his eye independently of the contact and thus look through the bifocal to read, sew, or whatever is doing at that very close distant. Very few people can do that maneuver.
I like your videos, solid material. Please, make your background music more pleasing to receive your training. The rock music is very intense. It diverts your listeners away. Be smart, do research, change your background music. I wish you best! The only way I came in on your channel is John Corriea's recommendation.
At what distance should you “cut the target in half” with your front sight, in your experience? You said that you should obscure your target with your front dot at closer range, but at what range does it transition to cutting your target in half?
Totally depends on the zero for the sights and the ammo. You can simply do a step back drill. Fire at the same target in 3 or more round groups at 3, 5, 7,10, 12, 15, 20, 25 yards etc. Aim in the exact same spot for each group. Then note the group moving up or down
I’ve been aiming wrong for 2 months now haha I didn’t know the front sight was supposed to go directly over the intended target. No wonder I thought my sights on my first pistol were off.
Im a little older and was new to the three dot stuff. And covering the target with the dot still confounds me. It seems my arms are never long enough to see the bullseye
The information is wrong, it is not supposed to go on top of it, it's over of it. If you are off it's because your pistol is not sighted correctly. Imagine how retarded of a design it would be to obstruct what you are trying to aim.
gdbsgt6u7ijyhbfvcasw sure. Our eyes can only focus on a single focal place. If you're focused on target it is impossible to align sights. This is in a strict marksmanship scenario.
What if when you align the sites the target doesn’t just look blurry but looks like it splits into two, like when you go cross-eyed? Do you aim in the center of the split images, or choose one to aim at?
I do the same thing but my problem is @20 -25ft my sights look like there straight on but there hitting way left of target. So for example if I point at the targets left shoulder I hit center mass. And I'm right handed and left eye dominant if that helps
@@CarryTrainer thanks I will have a friend of mine take some shots. Now that I'm looking at my pistol the front sight is staked my rear is dovetail and there is a mark on the slide and one on the sight from factory and there both aligned perfect
This video would not be the same without the asain man nodding every few seconds. I'm glad he was here
Hahhahahahaahahaha
... Are you trying to spell Asian?
Thanks for distracting me… 😂
i have to admit this instructor has the best steady hands I've seen.
Lawakua Lawler same thing I was telling myself.

Very well done. Great explanation and visual examples. I strongly recommend that you watch this video.
Thanks guys, nice job.
+Sduell60 thank you
Great deep dive into fundamentals many newbies overlook, thanks!
Glad you gentlemen made a video on something this simple for new people like myself. Take care.

Finally, someone gets right to the point of iron sight alignment.
best explanation ever, thank you, 'im starting to training and this was very helpful!
Perfect, clear, concise and straight to the point
This is exactly what I needed for my VR shooting
Great explanation on the fundamentals of sight alignment. I enjoy watching Carry Trainer training videos as they are insightful. I hope to be able to attend a training course one day.
Great explanation without all the BS ! Thank you 🙏
Answered the one question I’ve been searching for! Thank you!
Very informative, and as a new shooter, it has really answered several of my questions.
Thanks
Surprisingly helpful beginner tip thank you
first video I've seen ro tell it straight (the truth) thank you
Thanks so much for clearing this up for me!!!
Love the hype man on the side
This man is deadly from 5 yards.
Outstanding video!
I love this clip!
Great video thanks now do you have one for sight placement at different
distances
Amazing
I look at ur latest Videos yesterday which you had posted 1 hrs ago yesterday, u looked better now then 6yrs ago, more fit. Amazing 👏

If you’re a shorter shooter how do you account for having to aim more upwards to a target and still aligning horizontally
Excellent teaching! Where can I buy the teaching template tool you used in this video?
Good video. This is what exactly I was looking for my LTC!
I have always been curious about this and other videos didnt explain it that well. Equal height, equal light.
Outstanding. This is why I kept hitting 2 inches down
Nice information sight alinement cheers
New shooter here also and just subscribed.
Good video. Always wondered how to aim. Thanks helped a lot
You guys cover it completely. Not just alignment of front with rear sights that everyone else stops with.
Thank you for the informative video.

what about accounting for recoil
Great information 👍!
Great video, thank you. God bless
No, sir. Point of impact is above the black. Thel lollipop method puts me in the black.
How can 6 o'clock hold shoot center of a target unless the gun is shooting high.
Depends how the gun shoots some are sighted different
can you or should you not shoot iron sights with both eyes open or is it more effective with one closed?
That is contextual. Both eyes open is preferred but one may need to close or squint an eye for a tight shot
Can you line up sights without closing one eye?
This contradict target focused method with rear sight, I am getting confused, which is the best way for aiming?

Nicholas Schumacher in the context of armed conflict we need to see our environment. keep your eyes open
CarryTrainer Good but how do we accomplish this? Can’t get a good sight picture with both open... 2 years late I know 😅
I'm much more late but its a thing called "Blank shooting" or something like that. Its basically like hipfiring but using the general gun as a sight
THANKS I ALWAYS SHOT BELOW. WOW THANKS.....
+train jam welcome
So I close one eye when aiming
How can I find out about up coming classes near me? I'm an upstate new yorker looking to get some training any ideas?

Went to the range and went through about 100 rounds before I figured out proper alignments lol
Shouldn’t you aim just a little below where your intended target is at?
All depends on how your sights are set up
There isn't a better on target video on youtube.
I knew it that how it works thats why im always on the dot, hey nice video keep it up!!!! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

I prefer a tighter rear sight picture so you can just focus on equal height . Combat style sights are too much guess work
Helped accuracy
there's college courses on that brimfold

ive been shooting like how you shoot an AR with irons

I always got mind fucked with people preaching about 6 o' clock hold and 12 o' clock hold, shouldn't it be the same universally?

It's not supposed to, the bullet impacts right on the tippy top of the front sight.
Turns out I’m not crazy, cause my sights are off lmao.
so its not me. my pellet 1911 just had bad accuracy!
great video. Thanks...could do with out the old mocho 90s headbanger music...but great vid all the same...
Mocho?
Maybe you meant "mucho"?
It doesn't work in every gun. P365 X in order to keep the Bore horizontally straight, the front sight must be a bit higher that the rear sights
Your sights are just off and not zero correctly.
I think a lot of guns are set to lollypop sight picture because you want to see what you are shooting at rather than it be obstructed.
That's because that is the correct way to aim.
The tippy top of the front sight is where the bullet will impact, if you did the "lollypop" you'd be hitting the bottom of the circle.
I got a question why focus on front sight, not the target, which I can't answer. Can you help me answer this question?
gdbsgt6u7ijyhbfvcasw sure. Our eyes can only focus on a single focal place. If you're focused on target it is impossible to align sights. This is in a strict marksmanship scenario.
I'm really confused. Obscure your target from view when shooting? Really? Other professionals say "No".
@oldmanwitherspoon The way told in the video is incorrect.
What if when you align the sites the target doesn’t just look blurry but looks like it splits into two, like when you go cross-eyed?
Do you aim in the center of the split images, or choose one to aim at?

They may have been straight on, until they moved. They could also be misaligned. Have someone who you know to be an accurate shooter give it a try
@@CarryTrainer thanks I will have a friend of mine take some shots. Now that I'm looking at my pistol the front sight is staked my rear is dovetail and there is a mark on the slide and one on the sight from factory and there both aligned perfect
Mustache is key. 😉
This isn't correct, sights should be sighted in to where the top of the irons is the point of impact.
Just play some FPS Games and you're good
Great content.
But please ease up on the metal music.
Keep up the good work.
