  • I was headed to an exciting place: Dalal Street. To get there, I decided to take public transport, specifically bus number 137 to experience Mumbai's bus service. While waiting at a bus stop, another passenger informed us that this bus would actually arrive at the next stop. So, we moved over to it.
In Mumbai, bus stop signs usually display the bus numbers, which is convenient for passengers. We boarded the air-conditioned bus, and I quickly found a seat. On the way, I spotted a double-decker bus and asked the passenger beside me if this bus traveled to other parts of Mumbai. He said no, it doesn’t, mainly because of the trees along this route.
When I started talking to my camera, the passenger next to me removed his earphones to hear me better, and that funny little moment got captured on camera.
We got off the bus, and I was struck by how impressive the buildings looked. Surprisingly, the traffic was very light, which was unexpected for Mumbai-possibly because it was the afternoon, and many people were at work.
It was then just a six-minute walk to Dalal Street, and soon enough, I caught my first glimpse of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). This place had been on my bucket list for a long time, and it was amazing to finally be here. I noticed a lot of lawyers nearby, which made me think there must be a court close by.
At last, we reached the BSE. Security guards informed us that photography wasn’t allowed inside. We then stopped by a small stall nearby and tried malai pav. The malai was generously spread on the pav and made in-house. I also had a cup of chai, which I enjoyed dipping my pav into-it was sweet but delicious.
After this, we met a man who runs a sandwich stall near the BSE. He proudly told us that his stall appeared in the Harshad Mehta movie, as Harshad Mehta himself was a fan of his sandwiches. He mentioned that only brokers are allowed inside the BSE and that the price of a shop there is a whopping Rs 20,000 per square foot. Impressively, he offers over 90 varieties of sandwiches.
With that, it was time to say goodbye to the BSE and continue exploring more of Mumbai.
