Seriously, anyone reading my comment should seek out the Andy Lanning and Dan Abnett version of the Guardians of the Galaxy. It ran from 2009-2011 and was exactly where James Gunn took the inspiration from for the movie. Highly recommended. If you love Rocket Raccoon there's also a russian cosmonaut psychic spacedog named Cosmo. :)
I am an avid comic book reader and barely found out about Guardians of the Galaxy. The only reason i know anything about it is cause i had to research it, and read some of the new Guardians books. It used to be a cheesy comic from the 70's that got an awesome reboot in the 2000's. But yes, DC says it couldn't make a wonder woman movie because its too hard, despite having the entire pantheon of Greek mythology as her origin, and Marvel just up and makes a movie about a walking, talking, machine gun toting racoon.
Yeah the 36 issue run from 2009 would be the best reading material going into this movie in August. :) The current Brian Michael Bendis series while fun isn't new reader friendly at all.
I'm just happy it's something new. I'm happy Marvel/Disney are giving us characters allot of people don't know. But I have read Guardians before very little tho. Unlike DC/WB who keeps giving us Batman and Superman.
I feel so proud now I know who the guardians of the galaxy are because of the movie, Very obscure though, makes me wonder what marvel has under their sleeves (They got ideas up to 2028 according to one of the higher ups in Marvel Studios)
When they announced this, I was really surprised Marvel was going so far into their comics, since not many people are associated with Guardians of the Galaxy XD Have they released an Antman trailer yet?
No one knows the Guardians of the Galaxy, and anyone that claims to be an expert on them and/or belittles others for not knowing them is a fucking poser, haha. In all seriousness tho: If they can pull this movie off and have it be a financial success, then all bets are off and Disney/Marvel will be able to make a movie adaptation out of any C-list comic character they want. Here's hoping!
I would never belittle anyone about the Guardians of the galaxy but I happily own all of Annihilation, Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, Annihilation Conquest and War of Kings. I know everything you could possibly know about this specific incarnation of the team. DnA (Andy Lanning and Dan Abnett as well as Keith Giffen made this version of the team which is easily the best version of the team) Hell, Michael freaking Rooker is playing Yondu from the original incarnation of the team. If Marvel was really ballsy they would have included Vance Astro with Captain America's shield and all. :) Seriously, this movie is going to flat out rock. James Gunn knows how to rock the most obscure characters and make it the best thing possible. Plus with the exception of Bradley Cooper who I'm still hesitant on...perfect casting. :)
Eric Ratcliffe So long as the belittling and smack-talk doesn't happen, you are welcome here sir. :) I think casting Bradley Cooper as a talking animal is a clever way of having him in your movie without actually HAVING him in your movie, haha.

It's just weird that all previous incarnations (Marvel vs Capcom 3, the Earth's Mightiest heroes cartoon and even ultimate spidey) all had an almost australian accent. I trust James Gunn though, like a lot. :) Have you read the comics too? Lots of fun stuff!

Guardians was teased after Thor 2 with The Collector making an appearance, who can also be seen for a bit in the GOTG trailer.
