Many fantastic routines as always, especially the winner--but my very favorite is the one done to the song "My Number One!" Wow! That dog had boundless energy, and it was such a true DANCE with the dog!! Very graceful, perfectly in sync with the music. That one was extremely impressive.
Lucy couldn't have made a better decision than to immigrate to Japan, or anywhere really. That way both, her and Irena, get to attend with their dogs. Amazing.
I have to say, your title to this vid is interesting. I don't think it should be "heel work" at all. The earliest "freestyle canine dancing" had more to do with the music, and an actual dance. Rhythm mattered. It was a lot more interesting, a lot more challenging for the dog, and more fun to watch. What is passing recently for freestyle doesn't require the skill or the connection with music. It's a sport that in my view has disintegrated. It's a shame. Anyone wondering what I mean, look at this: ua-cam.com/video/e01RFf9Tr5w/v-deo.html This was a duo that was one of the ones who established the sport and the original standards.
I have to say, I do enjoy the routines that are energetic and matched to the music a lot more than the "storytelling" ones (even though they are cute). I agree, it does seem a lot more challenging for the dogs and handlers both.
Why do they allow them to compete in more than one competition within the same year? It's a lot of exercise and work for the dogs. One competition is enough to train for each year? Some of them are older dogs, too. And I might as well not even think any other performances should win as Lucy seems to always win LOL She is good but I do think on some of the competitions some of them are better. Sorry Lucy! But I never do a dislike because I do like all of the performances.
A lot of exercise and work? Come on that is what a border collie is made to do! Also Lucka Plevova and Jump deserved to win every time, they did the best performances ever, and Jump made everything look super easy!
I just discovered the existence of dog dancing today. I'm curious, is it a coincidence that there's only female competitors? Are there separate leagues, or is it that mostly ladies want to dog dance?
Excited for Crufts 2017?! 🐶🏆
