    Great video! I'm retired Air Force and I found wearing a uniform everyday was liberating! Having to choose "civilian" attire is exhausting! Now we stick to a basic 5 outfits each, and we love it! Of course, we live in our Freightliner Coronado with a tiny closet. We live with what we actually need and its a beautiful thing, praise God! Thanks again bro!

    Joe, just started watching your videos this week, and I am extremely grateful for them. you have inspired me, and although I haven't been counting, I would like to think I've gotten rid of at least 100 things this week. I have been holding on to so much stuff for so long, and I feel like it is clogging up my life. This is going to be a transformative summer, in part thanks to you and your videos. Thank you, brother. Stay eager!

      Luke! You have no idea how much this means to me--thank you so much! It is humbling to be the vessel for God's call to simple living--may He make us new men this summer. God is good!

    So happy to have found your channel. It's refreshing to see another Catholic who strives to be more minimalist. I've been trying to live more minimally for the past few years but I fail too often.

    Hey Shoeless Joe! My main take aways here on this one:
    How do I want to be living my life?
    What do I need to do that?
    These would be great for you to explore using tangible items and showing your approach. I think these are timeless questions we need to keep reasking ourselves at each stage of life.

    so happy to find your channel! I know this is an old video, but your black t-shirt experience is similar to my current experiment: wearing the same seven outfits over and over according to the days of the week for a year. will anybody notice? does it matter? I'm really interested in teaching people about the problems of fast fashion, where our clothes come from (and how they're made), and that Christians in particular should care about how other image bearers and the planet God gave us are treated. phew, that was a mouthful! all to say, I'm excited to explore your channel and hope you might have a moment to check out mine😊

    • @ShoelessJoeChristian
      @ShoelessJoeChristian  7 років тому +5

      Thank you! Fast fashion is such an ignored problem, and there's no reason for it. We Christians should be focused on living simple lives without causing such harm to others and our planet! I love it, thank you :)

    I don't believe that i will ever see eye to eye with you with regards to religion and consequently, your brand of minimalism/asceticism (it's sort of transformed from minimalism into a monkish asceticism), but I always find something inspiring or thought-provoking in your videos. And if nothing else, it helps to remind me that the focus is on living life, not having things.

    its cause we are constantly faced with "impulse-buy" ads and hints and our minds attach to it instantly n make us think we need it or how nice it feels to desire it and possess it. its like a weird drug addiction response

    Liberating huh? You mean laziness. Ha ha. Yes, good. It removes decisions, but let's not overthink this.
    However, if you've ever walked into a rummage sale? Fugggg, excess of stuff! Then, there's this constant supply of stuff being made and shipped everywhere. Where does that stuff go? Well, much of it ends up in a landfill. There's too much stuff being produced in this world. Too much stuff eventually becomes a pile of trash that sits like a mountain. It's not scenic. It's toxic. For that reason, less is more.
    I like your examples of saints. I'm not remotely religious, but a good example of somebody that raises good karma and peace is always needed in this world.

    Shoeless Joe I don't get you. You seem to be a very spiritual person and somewhat anti-government but still follow western religion. I know you like to say question everything, and i'm sure you've come across the idea that Catholicism and quite frankly any other religion is just a structure of false ideas created by capitalists benefiting from the peoples' moral conscience. I guess my question is how is it that someone such as yourself, someone who is self-aware of western society's pressure to consume, someone who is aware of the injustice within politics, corporations, advertisements, police, AND churches,--- how is it that you still find it in yourself to not only agree with Catholic ideas but regularly practice them as well? Sorry if this is too intrusive I def don't mean to offend you or your beliefs, and sorry if this is long!

    • @ShoelessJoeChristian
      @ShoelessJoeChristian  9 років тому +13

      +KittyKitterton Not intrusive or offensive at all--in fact, another good video idea! But until then, here's the short version--I don't see the life and teachings of Jesus (which are the core of Catholicism) as false ideas or as something created capitalists. I believe in God because I have faith, and because I have encountered him very real ways (ua-cam.com/video/A1Rm8xiuitg/v-deo.html), and because I do not find it to be irrational or counter to science (ua-cam.com/video/JEtICqCr5kE/v-deo.html). I follow the Catholic Church because, while I do find much truth in many other religions (especially Buddhism), I find the most truth, and the ultimate Truth, in Catholicism and Jeshua, the Christ. There is a big difference between the teachings of the Catholic Church--her core beliefs and values--and the ways that Catholicism is implemented, portrayed, or perceived. What I mean by this is that, though I may not always agree with the actions of certain members of the Church or certain Church decisions, I find no flaw with her core teachings--instead I find Truth, Beauty, and Deliverance. Does that make sense, or is it a rambly incoherent mess? Like I said, I'm definitely going to make a video about this. In fact, I'm strongly considering starting a new channel about Catholicism--my beliefs, what the Catholic Church really is/says, and how I think Catholics need to change. Thanks as always for the thoughtful/thought-provoking comment!

    • @imbonnie
      @imbonnie 8 років тому +2

      +KittyKitterton Catholicism is in no way threatened by one who questions everything because Catholicism is the truth. Often it is people who do question everything that wind up Catholic.

    • @twuggygotgame
      @twuggygotgame 8 років тому +2

      +imbonnie no thanks LOL there are several hundreds of religions out there and to deem any particular one as "truth" without evidence is a lie.

    • @imbonnie
      @imbonnie 8 років тому +2

      there is much evidence the Catholic church is the true church. Jesus Christ founded it. Watch "The Journey Home" programs to see how all kinds of people came to the Catholic church in their quest for truth. Many had ruled out the Catholic church from the start but found much evidence in support along the way that led them there.

      It's interesting, I have heard people from several other denominations of Christianity say the exact same thing - I've heard it from Anglicans, Southern Baptists, Assembly of God, Mormons, and Jehovah's Witnesses. I have had someone belong to each of those churches turn to me at some point and say, "you know, when people start questioning their religion it seems like they always find their way here, even other Christians suddenly realize that this faith is the [insert positive superlative]".
      I am no expert, but I have spend 18 years immersed in research into religion (all different types) and the only common denominator is that they all seem to tie back to either A) an event or B) an older religion until we get back to pre-history at which point we just don't know.
      What amazes me is how unaware of these origins most religious people are. Christians know of Judaism, but don't understand where that came from, same with Muslims. Muslims are only vaguely aware of what it was like in Arabia before Islam and how those predecessor religions influenced Islam. Many Christians aren't even aware of how various "pagan" religions have influenced Christianity across the globe.
      I will give it to Jews (religious) and Shinto - most of them are at least somewhat aware of the origins of their religion because it's tied to the practice of the religion (part of Judaism is the language and in learning about the etymology and evolution of the language you will also learn about the predecessor and intercessor religions), (Shinto knows how long each Shrine has been around and nothing in Shinto is claimed to be timeless, and many [like ethnic Jews] practice it culturally without literally believing in what they are doing).
