According to a Ukrainian metal worker called Dimitros who posted on the DBK video about BPS, 1066/65G is a Soviet spring steel. It's not as hard as 1095 but has much better toughness, tensile strength & edge retention with correct heat treatment 👍 If it's used in the suspension of trucks & tanks, then Ukraine currently has an almost limitless supply from destroyed Ruzzian vehicles 🔥💣😜👍 #SlavaUkraini💙💛
Thank you very much for that valuable information. I truly appreciate it. It is a very tough knife blade. I’ve had no rolling or chipping or denting. And you are right, they do have a lot of supply of that steel on hand now. And most of it has been annealed.
The Afganis make Scimitars out of spring steel from bombed out Russian tanks. I picked up a couple from the markets when I visited in 2001, they are worth big money now for their toughness and rarity.
@@knifetimestory Arrived today. I've spent about an hour giving it an extra bit of tissue slicing sharpness (which it didn't quite have) and then doing some whittling of hard dry pine/cedar. The handle fits my normal/large hands, slender fingers, perfectly. The edge bites deep or finely shaves as desired. The grind is even, the spine is sharp, the fit and finish is very good for the price and the sheath is excellent; all as portrayed in all the UA-cam videos that I watched. I'm delighted with it and have let BPS know, also wishing them a very Merry Christmas and a victorious New Year.
@edwin mason Heinnie Haynes? No, I got it direct from BPS in Ukraine. It took 5 or so weeks. The 1066 takes a good edge but it does corrode very easily even after a forced patina, the edge of course has no patina after sharpening, but a quick strop removes any oxide. I'd choose stainless where possible.
My wife gave me a BS2FT, which is just the slightly larger version of the 2nd knife you showed. Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic knife. And they have a sale right now. If I was allowed I'd go and buy every single model they own as legacy knives to give to kids and their grandkids later on.
These would be great to give to kids and grandkids. Perhaps I'll have to try the BS2FT. I sure like the one I have though. It gets used for everything these days.
@@knifetimestory the sheath that comes with the BS2FT is similar to that of their other "big" knives. The leather is quite a bit thicker and stiffer than the one that comes with the smaller BS1FT. The shape and size reminds me of a Kephart knife.

They also make a full flat grind. I want to get the wood lore pattern one. People need to realize steel type is mostly marketing!

@Knifetime Story So I've ordered their flat ground knife and the the finish was horrendous. 100% agreed. I have purchased several condors over the years. EVERYTIME I felt I overpaid for what I got (by double). Their $50 knives should be $25, $100 should be $50. And so on. Been seeing these BPS knives for a while. I gotta get my hands on some. Beavercraft s another great Ukranian company I've actually purchased from and been quite happy.
I don’t own any BPS knives but I do have several of their sheaths. I use them to carry my Bark River knives because they are better than the sheaths they come with!

Just so you know that despite our recent differing views on Spyderco folding knives I do listen to your sage advice and as a result of this video invested in one of these $33.00 knives. The 1st thing I noticed was the “rich Corinthian leather” (as Ricardo Montalbán once said) of the sheath. The fit & finish of the walnut wood scales and sharpness out of the box of the blade were also impressive. I’m leaving the TX heat behind and heading to CO next week where I hope to test this knife on a fishing/camping trip. Thank you for your advice on this knife.
So glad you got one of those. I find that I’ve been using mine constantly. Especially the small one. I can’t get it to go dull. Honestly… I use it and then I’ll use my Mora and then I’ll use the bps and then the Mora and I have to sharpen Mora. I have stropped the bps but that was just because it was lying there and I was bored.
@@knifetimestory This is my 2nd BPS knife. Really looking forward to using it on my trip. Thanks again for the recommendation. My other one is the smaller MK1 SSH Small EDC Knife. Perfect handle size for my XL glove sized hands. The original Esee Izula is too small for me, the Izula 2 is good, but this BPS knife takes it to the next level in ergonomics IMHO.
While I am reading your reply, I see someone gave your comment a thumbs down. What kind of sick person would do that. I will never understand that. Regardless… I’m glad you got a BPS and hope that you have fun shopping for more of their knives!
I have the BPS Savage, it is bigger then the Adventure. Now when I got my Savage, I had to smooth up the handle a bit. But using steel wool, took just a few minutes. Then I took the handle off, and found rust on the Tang. Sanded it off, coated with mineral oil, put the handle scales back on, and its good to go. I have six Condor knives. And when I started buying from them, prices where reasonable. But, prices have gone up to the point where I really dont want to buy any of them. Yes, I've used my Savage int he kitchen. Great knife for slicing and cutting. Oh, soak the sheath in boiled linseed oil, then push the knife in as far as you can, and let it sit over night. It will fit nicely then.
Glad to hear you gave your knife some loving attention from the start. I've found that by the time the surface rust on the handle, hiding under the scales, was to be an issue, it would be your great great great grandchildren who would have to deal with it. Every ESEE I've owned has had rust under the scales where the laser etches the date code and removes the black coating. Yes, I do put a dab of WD40 there, but if I didn't, it would never be an issue. I'll try the boiled linseed oil trick next time I come across this issue. Thank you!
I have bhs, a Ukrainian knife similar to bps. bhs are also very quality and the price is ridiculously cheap. After watching your video, I thought I should buy bps as well.
The spine on my particular BPS B1 was sharp on one side and rather smooth on the other. The wood handle needed some sanding and sealed. My B1 and Adventure models don't seem to throw much of a spark with the firestarter that came with the Adventure as compared to my LT Wright knife in 3V. The blades on both models were very sharp and great at cutting tasks and came with a great sheath. There are some flaws, but that's expected for the price. Overall, I'm happy with the BPS knives.
Remember when real-estate prices were still fairly low and reasonable back in the 70's and early 80's? I remember when real-estate agents started asking, "how much would you be willing to pay for this property"?
If there are any Canadian viewers out there Amazon can have this knife to you a day or two later and prices are a little higher than the US but still freaking good.
I own 4 different model from bps..the only thing I don't like about the bp1 is that the blade dose not go all the way to the handle that empty space drives me nuts.
I am glad that you have so many. I can see where that would be an issue, with the blade only going as far as it does. But other than that I really enjoy them as well!
I'm going to have to go against the grain and state that Mora is still a better bet. The plastic handle and sheath of Mora requires no maintenance and won't crack, puncture, etc. I'm not a Mora fanboy but their knives just work perfectly.
Totally respect that. Truth be known, I do reach for my Mora Companion I shortened (here is the video: ua-cam.com/video/N18O3IfJIx8/v-deo.html ) more often than just about anything else, other than my ESEE Izula for the tough jobs that require something much more robust.
I've seen these on videos before (including the video you linked to). They do look remarkably.good for the money. I did wonder about fit and finish, but you've answered that question. I'm sure there's one or more in my future... By the way, what's that thing on the wall over your left shoulder? Lol! (Had an intern once who didn't know how to use one of those! Lol! Too funny...) Great video. Thanks.
Thanks for watching. Definitely treat yourself to one of these. You will be more than pleasantly surprised about the fit and finish! And as for that brown thing over my left shoulder, that used to be in my father-in-law‘s basement, and then in my basement and then when we moved we brought it with us and I created a spot for it and it actually functions. 😂
@@kanukkarhu I use it to answer the phone all the time. What you don’t see is right below it there is a cordless phone so that I can make outgoing calls and have caller ID.
Hey KTS, this one cost me money. I bought one of everything BPS makes plus a couple extras of the Adventure knife., the day you posted that video. They’re pretty good knives, there’s some imperfections/blemishes in several of the models I got, by no means does that effect function. Just aesthetics. Great beater knives, really good food prep knives. Lack thickness for batoning but mine have managed to hold up to some hard wood just fine. Edges hold up about the same as a Mora, I can’t tell the difference anyway. Great project knives, I’ve forced patinas on a couple, cold blued a couple and stained scales on all of them. I received 11 knives at once for just under 250 bucks. Gave me a chance to look at consistency of workmanship, there is quite a bit of disparity between a few of them, but for under 40 bucks I can’t fault the knives. Plus just absolutely guilt free when using them hard. Great review on a value knife brand.
Dang!! Everything! You don't fool around. Just with the 1/2 dozen I have I too have noticed some subtle manufacturing issues that are so easily overlooked or tinkered with to make them right. Unlike the glaring QC issues with Condor or even worse yet, Helle. Or, and this one is for the fanboys...Bark River! Can't beat the value of the BPS and I'm finding they hold an edge longer than Mora. Glad you are having fun with them and I hope they provide you with a lifetime of joy!!! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave such an awesome comment. KTS
New knife now available from BPS. I am a DBK fan, bought both knives from DBK so far, the TRC Apocalypse (DBK CONVEXED) and the TRC DBK knife. Now BPS is cashing in on the DBK brand. They have made a copy of the DBK knife (which is pretty much the perfect knife.) Amazon has it for 50 bucks. I ordered one yesterday. It will be here Tuesday. Handles are pinned. Sheath design is different. Figured if you hadn’t heard about it you’d want one. It’s 50 bucks, they did stamp the blade with DBK logo. I think Mickey and Martene get some kick back. Anyways heads up.
Hello from Ukraine! First of, I would like to thank You for highlighting BPS products. It is very important people know about quality knives for more than reasonable prices, which are not made in china or other asia parts. BPS is almost 100% hand made product. Also on the important side that BPS supports our Ukrainian armed forces. There is one exclusive limited model at the moment - "Stand with Ukraine", so You might get interested in one..
Thank you for your kind comment from Ukraine!!! I enjoy learning more about different knife makers. Thank you for adding to my info. As far as the special edition, I'd like to learn more about it. Does it have a model name? Thank you and God bless Ukraine!!
The problem is that they are addictive. I'm on my third one already. Considering Amazon takes a cut out of the price that means they are making even less profit. Everybody is buying these knives. I just got a Esee RB3 and a BPS BS3, hmm, lots of similar letters and numbers there. When you hold them together there's not much difference in quality but there sure is a big difference in price. It's a Mora killer. Wooden handles and leather sheaths .
@@knifetimestory Condor in some respects gets it right but soft steel and wonky grinds turns things into silly putty. I have several BPS knives which are very good quality.
Well I have extensively used, collected, sold and made knives over many years and I have noticed that many large knife manufacturers have price gouged hobbyists, collectors and bushcrafters for too long. It blows my mind how much money some people are prepared to pay for a bushcraft knife. To a large degree I feel that Bushcrafters and knife enthusiasts have been their own worse enemies and have allowed themselves to be seduced by profiteers. I have knives I have got for nothing and knives I have spent a lot of money on...in the field there is noticeable difference...they get the job done, year in and year out. Of course if you want 'pretty' knives that have more aesthetic value, then pay a few hundred dollars and there are thousands to choose from. Don't say too much about BPS Knives are worth much more or else the prices will be hiked up soon...you watch. Thanks and Best Regards, WS
Great comment. I agree with you. I fear that they are going to see that they have a nice niche in the market and then decide that they could easily double or triple their price and still be less than the big guys prices. My Randall 3-5 cost me $400. It cuts no better than these BPS knives. And, the BPS knives have a better sheath!!!
It is always a good idea to keep a light film of oil on a carbon steel knife and to store it outside of the sheath, preferably in a gun safe with a dehumidifier rod. BreakFree CLP is excellent for rust prevention. I try to avoid washing my carbon steel knives, wiping them with BreakFree CLP instead. Of course, food prep require other maintenance methods.
That's funny! With those two knives in your possession, I'd dare say that there is really no need for any other knife, except a folder perhaps. Those two knives cover so much ground.
Finally someone finally saying it. BPS is better than Mora and all other competitors in the price range (maybe some Cold Steel blades are better.) My BPS came with a SIGNIFICANTLY more acute grind than any of my Mora, and like you said consistently sharpened from base to tip. The only thing I can complain about is the handles come very dry and need oil immediately. The leather is unfortunately low quality but the sheath is overall pretty good.
I agree. The finish on their blades is far superior to Mora. I guess I was more BPS rather than slamming Mora. But you are right. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a companion that was sharp but only on 4/5 of the blade.

I got the BPS Adventurer as a gift. OMG! It feels great! I want all of their bushcraft knives now.
While I am reading your reply, I see someone gave your comment a thumbs down. What kind of sick person would do that. I will never understand that. Regardless… I’m glad you got a BPS and hope that you have fun shopping for more of their knives!
right on great vid gona go looken thanks
Thank you very much!!!
Thank you!
Youre gifted. Even though i insta dislike unboxings rather than real review, it was really enjoyable.
Wow. Thank you very much for the kind words. That really means a lot!!!!!
I have bhs, a Ukrainian knife similar to bps. bhs are also very quality and the price is ridiculously cheap. After watching your video, I thought I should buy bps as well.
I will have to look into BHS. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Yep, no comparison to LT Wright. That's like comparing a Yugo to a Lexus.
But you are right, they are great for the money and then some.
It might be the ferro rod that's not very good, because the DBK boys were getting wild sparks from their BPS knife !
I would love it if they made a hatchet or small axe. Given what I’ve seen and heard about 1066 carbon steel it would make a great chopper.
That sounds good to me!!
Alright already.
I'll get one, lol.
Thanks for the review!
Ha!! Go for it. Be sure to check out my Amazon store.
Remember when real-estate prices were still fairly low and reasonable back in the 70's and early 80's? I remember when real-estate agents started asking, "how much would you be willing to pay for this property"?
Sure.
If there are any Canadian viewers out there Amazon can have this knife to you a day or two later and prices are a little higher than the US but still freaking good.
This knife is a deal in any currency!! Thanks for watching.
So I went nuts and purchased three different models from these guys because I don't think they're going to stay at that price point for very long.
Wow. Have fun with your new collection.
Yeah, I don't know how they do it. A lot of good quality tools coming out of Ukraine. Beavercraft are making good quality wood carving tools too.
I was not aware beaver craft was made in the Ukraine. I use some of them. They are a fairly decent Woodcarving Knife. Though not as tough as the BPS.
I have several bps they are a excellent value
Glad to hear it. Yes they are. I’m enjoying mine more and more!!!
I bought four of these man bang on .👍🇨🇦
Wow!! Great to hear!!
Lol! Too funny...)
Great video.
@@knifetimestory A rotary dial landline. An increasingly rare bird these days. How cool is that! 👍
@@kanukkarhu I use it to answer the phone all the time. What you don’t see is right below it there is a cordless phone so that I can make outgoing calls and have caller ID.
@@knifetimestory Smrt. 😁👍
Holy Crap!!! I did not know that. Thank you very much for the heads up. As soon as I hit "reply" I'm headed over to Amazon. Can't wait!!
No problem my friend. Knew you’d want to add that one to the collection. DBK made a video on it two or three weeks back. Check that one out.
They really are getting some good attention! Thank you for your excellent comment!
BPS is what Condor should have been.
Wow. You know…that makes sense! 👍🏻
@@knifetimestory Condor in some respects gets it right but soft steel and wonky grinds turns things into silly putty. I have several BPS knives which are very good quality.
@@thomasmaloney843 I’ve found that I use the smaller one all the time!
you're pretty much buying the sheath and getting the knife for free
And, the BPS knives have a better sheath!!!
check under the handles for rust and oil under there so they don't rust, other than that they are an amazing deal
Mines rusted out in a week after washing
Seriously? Wow.
I hope my BPS Adventurer is as nice as that outa the box
I trust it will be. Their QC seems to be very consistent.
I know how they do it ...
Should be free for all Americans who pay taxes.
But yes they are very nice for "your" money ...😏 all 150+billion of it.
Wow. Hmmm. You do have a good point. Never thought of it that way.
bought one dont really like it...
Sorry to hear that.
Love to see you do a review of the adventurer. I love mine so much I'm thinking of getting a custom micarta handle made for it.
If I do wind up buying an adventurer, I'll certainly share my thoughts on it. So far the two I have are just fulfilling so many job needs.
I bought the same two, one right after the other just like you did! lol 😂
That's funny!
With those two knives in your possession, I'd dare say that there is really no need for any other knife, except a folder perhaps. Those two knives cover so much ground.
@@knifetimestory agreed. My folder is a Buck 110 Auto. Love that one.
