Thank you for these VERY VALUABLE lessons. Just a little point of correction. BEFORE the Portuguese even knew of the existence of Southern or Eastern Africa the people of this region were already trading with Arabs (mostly from Zanzibar). The trade involved cloths, beads, mirrors, guns (in my family we still have one of those old guns), etc. and that was BEFORE the 15th Century!!. Anoher historical aspect which you could touch on is how christianity managed to infiltrate and eventually dominate our culture. Here it is very important to kow how christianity began and became dominant in both Eastern and western Europe. At it inception the Romans CLEVERY incorporated local beliefs into the bible. Easter, christmas, saints, prophets, ressurrection, birth from a virgin woman, etc etc were ALL part of LOCAL "PAGAN" beliefs. Incorporating them into this new religion made it easier for the locals to accept it albeit by use of FORCE and VIOLENCE!!.
I want to help my people understand here. The Roman Catholic went into Congo well before they came down to the Southern part of Africa hence hence when they established themselves in the Eastern parts of Zimbabwe they imtroduced the word N'anga which they brought out of Congo thats why you see the word N'anga or Nganga in the Congo bible.Nganga Mutsemi or in our language mweya mutsvene.
While I agree with you on some aspects but I blv the word n'anga is part of the larger Bantu languages which found its way into southern Africa, I wouldn't blv that the missionaries brought foreign words but actually capitalized on local words for their own benefit. The connection btwn the word n'anga and nyanga shld also not be downplayed. The ndau stl use the word nyanga instead of n'anga. Anyway these are different theories and no single explanation can be seen as the only truth
