Written by Kris Kristofferson!! Was also recorded by Ray Price… Same composer as “Me and Bobby McGee” (Janis), and “Help Me Make it Through the Night”, recorded by many artists, including Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Glenn Campbell……
Yet another absolute classic by the genius of Kris K. I don't know of many artists that wrote more classics as he did. I would be curious to know how many people covered his songs and had top 10 hits. Sunday morning coming down also comes to mind.
Elvis's version is hard to beat.
Anything Al Green is good for the soul.
How would i go by sending them a music video request?
Very soothing
@@tylerhackner9731 Hi how do i go by sending them a music video request? I've tried emailing them and leaving comments never get no response.
True!
@@tylerhackner9731 Do you know how to go by sending them a music video request?
You'll love Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" and "Tired Of Being Alone" !!!!His best two songs (imo) !!!Great Soul/R&B.
Also "Still in Love with You" and "Never found me a Girl"
And Here I Am
You have GOT to do BOTH those songs ❤
This whole album is fantastic.
I totally agree
I love the whole albulm sans this one, actually.
I wore this album out🎶♥️
"How Do You Mend a Broken Heart" and "Simply Beautiful" are also excellent choices -- Love Al❣️
More Al Green - let’s stay together, you ought to be with me, call me, sha-la-la, tired of being alone, I’m still in love with you, here I am (come and take me), look what you done for me, love is a beautiful thing, funny how time slips away also done with Lyle Lovett in the 90s (written and recorded by Willie Nelson and other country artists), put a little love in your heart with annie lennox
Al Green singing How Do You Mend a Broken Heart, a song by Rob's favorite, Barry Gibb and the Bee Gees. Absolute perfection. ❤ Thanks for all your hard work 💗
Jay. Not sure where the name “Rob” for Rob Squad Reactions. Come from. He’s Jay. But maybe that’s their last name? Or his middle name?
I'm 67 and I still have and cherish all of Al Greens vinyl records!
The legendary Rev. Al (Hot Grits) Green was owning the r&b charts back in the early 70's through the mid 70's against a lot of tough competition. "Tired of Being Alone" should be next and one of my dark horse favorites in "Let's Get Married"
One of the most beautiful recordings ever. Al Green is a national treasure.
Anything Al Green works for me!!! ❤
This is a nice cover. It was written by Kris Kristofferson in 1968 and became a #1 song on the radio by Ray Price in 1970, then by Al Green in 72' as well as a big hit for Perry Como on the U.K. charts in 73'. I personally love the Ray Price version best.
Also covered as a BIG HIT song by Eddie Arnold about the same time as the Ray Price cover.
Shut up
Listening to the great Al Green just makes me happy.
Al Green knows how to sing a song slow and steady and have it reach the very depths of your soul.
I grew up listening to Al Green. His music is timeless. 50+ years later it sounds just as fresh and relevant as it did in the early 70s.
Wow, I never know Al Green covered this song. I grew up with Ray Price's country (Nashville Sound) version.
Same.
Ray price did the definitive version.
Ray, did it first, then Al, Green, covered it later.
Me, too. Like this a lot, though.
LET'S GET MARRIED deserves a turn on the channel. Al Green really makes a case for the love he feels.
I used to use this cd to go on those late nite, clear your head drives!!!! Perfect music therapy!!!!!
One of the best r&b artists ever
A legend and his music, Mr Al Green. I recommend “I’m still in love with you ”(His second biggest hit), “Let’s Stay Together “(His biggest hit), and “You Ought To Be With Me”. All certified classics 💯💯💯.
This always gives me goosebumps... Grown folks music. My gawd, he has the organ
You should hear Al singing "Sha-la-la Makes Me Happy" , just pure joy.
🇬🇧 Al Green "Lets Stay Together" & "Tired Of Being Alone" ❤🔥🎼
Jay and Amber, It's finally time for you to listen to the best love song of all time: the swoon-worthy Let's Stay Together by Al Green. Even Barack Obama has sung it!
Check out the Soul Train version of Al Green's 'Here I Am'. There is also a Midnight Special perfomance of 'Call Me'. 'Simply Beautiful' is another classic.
HIs performance of Let's Stay Together on the Late Show with David Letterman is must watch TV. He had just been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and David is ecstatic about having him on the show. His performance is amazing.
This is my favorite Al Green song by the slightest of margin over, "Let's Stay Together."
You gotta do Ray Price's version. Ray was country crooner with a whiskey velvet voice. He was a contemporary of Hank Williams, They even shared a house in Nashville. Easy to say Ray was a country music lifer.
Funny you should mention it sounding like a southern Baptist choir because Al Green later in life became a reverend.
There's a video of Michael Jackson singing a little bit of this song to his mother. He didn't record it though. I think the drummer on this Al Green song is Al Jackson, who was a member of Booker T & The MGs. Al Jackson played on a lot of Hi Records (Al Green's label) stuff.
In live in Al Green's hometown, Grand Rapids MI, and work down the street from his high school. My favorite male vocalist ever.
there have been more babies created while listening to this man sing ,everyone does Gods work in his own way :)
I haven’t listened to this song since my beloved uncle’s funeral. This is a sunset song! As the sun goes down, play this
Clarence Clemons & Jackson Browne You're a Friend of Mine. (1985) Clarence Clemon's was in Bruce Springston's band in the 80's too.
Al Green’s version of A CHANGE IS GONNA COME is the best one by far …
This song was written by Kris Kristofferson (one of the Highwaymen, and an extremely prolific songwriter, and also an actor. He was in the Blade trilogy movies as a main character) and sung by several others including himself. He and Willie Nelson (only referring to this genre/ sub-genre in this comment) wrote an absolute TON of music for other people then sometimes they themselves, had recorded them as well later on.
There is country version of this song it is sang by country legend Eddie Arnold it is good as well and he has a deep voice so it kinda makes the song more soulful
I love Al Green and I love this song! There is really no other voice like Al Green's!! 💖💖
He also did this song live on Soul Train, you will love that performance also ❗❗❗❕
Next up in the Al Green's rotation should be
"How Do You Mend a Broken Heart"
Rob Squad, Al Green is a whole Neverending rabbit hole. My family are his musicians on this and everything from 69-75. My Dad Charles Hodges Sr is the organ player and my Uncle Leroy Hodges is on bass and my other Uncle Teenie Hodges is on guitar. If you want to hear another beautiful Al Green song, react to Strong As Death, Sweet As Love.
I agree with the listener below. Al's first two, biggest, and best hits are Tired of Being Alone and Let's Stay Together. These are the ones you should be hearing. The second one went to #1 in 1972.
NOW YOU HAVE DONE IT🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
Reminds me of my Paw Paw playing this 8track in his rusty Ford pickup while he fixed something under the hood that never seemed to get fixed. Soul, down home, the smell of fresh fried chicken and greens with a piece of fatback - my mouth would start watering when I stepped on the porch! That's what Al Green and many of the soul artists from the 60's and 70's do for me 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Al green the legend i like all his music
Other Al Green greats... One of These Good Old Days, Love and Happiness, Look What You Done For Me, What A Wonderful Thing (Love Is,) Simply Beautiful and Belle. Every one a gem.
That’s probably my favorite Al Green tune! Willie Nelson does a great version of this song too!
Title track is a must listen also: I’m Still in Love with You”
I was introduced to Al Green when I was a waitress in my 20's at a small local club. This elderly blk man was a regular. He had lost his wife (widow). He said this was one of their favorite songs. We became good friends and when he'd come in he'd play this song on Jukebox and we'd dance together to it. He was such a sweet elderly man.
I remember that song! That's one of the songs we used to sing to ourselves when we had nothing better to do than sing to ourselves. So is that other one about green grass. What a coincidence!
Ray Price does my favorite version, Rev. Al is one of my favorite singers.
Used to love me some Al Green. He was often on The Midnight Special back in the day.
Al Green- Sha la la (make he happy" is another good song by him as well. 70's R&B at it's best.
We had the Ray Price version on the jukebox at the bar where I bartended back in the 70's. I never got tired of this song. A classic by Kris Kristofferson. Thanks for sharing Al Green's version!
My husband and my song is Let’s Stay Together! Al Green
Love his soulful voice
Hey there you two! Thanks for reacting to this old classic! You may want to also check out the older country crooner version of this song by Ray Price! Have a wonderfully enjoyable evening to two of the BEST reactors on UA-cam!😊
Anything Mr Al Green 👍♥️🙏✝️✌️😎
Back in the day, Al Green was THE Man!! I hope you sometime watch him on his Soul Train appearances, the women in the audience were Swooning!!! Regarding that sound, it shouldn't surprise that he became a Reverend!
My favorite Al Green song hands down!
Perry Como had a hit with this in the U.K. Got recordings of Al Greens hits never knew he did a rendition of this .
This is probably my favorite Al Green song
I just love the words of this song, I grew up hearing Ray Price sing it so that is my favourite version
When Al Green puts his special seasoning on a classic…
Smooth and soulful from Al with his great voice. He has done some great soulful songs including 'Lets stay Together' and later on a great duet with Annie Lennox 'Put a little love in your Heart'-Colin Ward
Reminds me of Al's version of the the Bee Gees, "How can you mend a broken heart?" Which is definitely worth a listen! Love you both!!
Oldie jam! Love Al!
Also recorded by legendary crooner Perry Como who had a top 10 hit in the Uk with his version.
I don't think Al's version had an official release as a single but was an album track and became a live favourite with fans
LOVE Al Green!!
Great singer! Have a listen to a duet with him and another great singer- Annie Lennox - Put A Little Live In Your Heart. Won’t be disappointed.
Al has so many great songs ( R&B,Gospel ) that you will lose count. This song is one of his all-time classics. Al was my mom's favorite male singer. R.I.P mom.
Love him!! Mood music ❤
Definitely need to hear Ray Price's vetsion!
Those were the good times. Here's a few more Al Green suggestions
Call Me (Come Back Home 1972)
Oh Pretty Woman (1972)
Living For You (1973)
Sha la lla Makes Me Happy (1974)
Thanks as always Jay and Amber 😊
Wow, Amber was groovin'. She looked like she might smack him for stopping the sound for a sec... LOL This is a good one for a chill playlist.
the epitomy of soul 💜!!
I Love what y'all are doing ✌️
Amber mentioned a choir -- y'all know Al's a preacher, right? He wasn't when he made this, but he started out in gospel. Check out his take on the Temptations' "I Can't Get Next to You"; Al made a good blues man.
Speaking of blues, could you play some Little Milton soon, please. "Stormy Monday," "Sweet Sixteen," or "Fever," for starters.
Al Green is the Man!
Always a good time for some Al Green! Stay safe, Robs. You've got some nasty weather coming through tonight and tomorrow.
That's my mom's boy...lol
I remember that album...she had on those stereos that was made out brown oakwood with the speakers in case at each end...it went with the coffee table and the two end tables she had so many albums but AL was her one of her favorite but my pops was was no.1 lol
This reminds me of my dad...he loved AL Green😢
I love this song 😍
🎉🎉 Al Greens ❤❤
Check out The Re-Flex / Britsh Band The Politics of Dancing (1984) and My Girl by Chilly Wack / Canadian Band (1981).
Love me some Al music
How bout some 80’s Al Green, “ Everything Is Gonna Be Alright “ ! You will love it!
No such thing as a bad song by Rev. Al Green. My favorite is "Love is a Beautiful Thing" Used in the movie "Two Weeks Notice "
Ray Price first recorded this but many have performed it including Perry Como.
they make like this anymore this was and is music to really feeling and take into you body and soul al green truly a music legend i grew up listen this music all the time.
Now this is a jam !
A female Memphis Soul singer form the same era to check out (essential listening :) and that I've mentioned various times with my Solid Gold Female Friday New Artist Alert list is ANN PEEBLES. They were both signed to Hi Records. Check out "I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down" and "I Can't Stand The Rain."
Whoa, this was relaxing, what a legend Al Green is. Nice song. The slow rhythm and pace made it great. Patreon Movie Suggestion: Ghost Dad (1990).
CLASSIC
Yes!✌️❤️
Al Green is my favorite, I think you guys pick the slowest, he is so good so I hope you give these suggested songs a listen, I Love him
Y'all making me cry today 😭 I cried to this song with my first heartbreak 💔
LOVE THE REVEREND!!!! Nice reaction!☘️🇺🇲
Great shirt Jay, ....Austin Rules!!😁👍👍
Love your videos
If you haven't hit Love & Happiness by Reverend Al Green its a must. I love the way the guitar drops in that song. Sooo good.
That's interesting that you said it sounds like church, since he became a minister later on.
