I would very much like to go also. Even at $14,000 for an exquisite carpet, it will last not only through your life time but that of your grand children's children. It must be a dying art in a world consumed with automation and mass manufacturing. Every time you step into a room and see this beautifully hand made work of art it gives immense pleasure. I would go nuts in Iran!

Totally beautiful! These modern Iranian carpets are truly work of art, but the best are from before '20s. We have two. Next one will be only for one from 3rd quarter 19th century, most likely city rug and from Tabriz - waiting for the right one. Respect for the weavers. Very good coverage of many weaving regions by a 4th gen dealer as he told. Nomadic and tribal rugs may have inconsistencies & mistakes, but should be considered folk art. Other interesting handmade rugs are from Turkey, Pakistan and India considering their price diffs, IMO.

He gives wrong information about Turkish knot . I'm turk and I live in Tabriz, the biggest city of east Azerbaijan one of the Provinces of Iran. My mom and dad have been carpet Weaver for 40 years I bet Turkish knot is not what he shows in the video and it is known for its strength compared to Persian knot.

In English the term “Turkish” only refers to Turks from Turkey. It does NOT refer to Iranian Turks, such as Azeris, Turkomans, etc… Your fellow Iranian in the video was not talking about Turks from Tabriz or any other part of Iran when he said “Turkish knot”, he meant Turks in Turkey. He also clarified by saying thats what the difference is between rugs from Iran and other countries.

Weavers of these carpets are the ones, who suffer the most.
To weave a better quality carpet, you need a weaver who has small fingers which can easily go through the perpendicular yarn were the knots are being put.

Love the rugs but boy, that shakey camera work is hard on the eyes. The shaking, the scratching, the crackling...horrible.

Shouldn't generalize but you have to watch out when buying Persian carpets cuz carpet dealers are like sharks and try to shaft you big-time. I tried my luck once visiting Turkey and another time Singapore and thought I managed to get a great deal after a long and exhausting haggling process only to find out latter that been shafted big time both in Turkey and Singapore.
I think if you pay anything more than 40% of their asking price then you probably been shafted too LOL

olagh you’re talking about buying in Turkey, as you know the quality is absolutely different there (not a very good one) so in Iran it’s different Mr. الاغ 🤪😂

Who buys carpets from Turkey or Singapore, that's why you've been shafted.
