- My life in Gibraltar, take a look at new Hilton hotel Gibraltar design, which will be built at Catalan Bay Gibraltar, in iconic Italian village, Little Genoa, today’s view and progress, 17th April 2024,
Gibraltar, is the British Overseas Territory, and city located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. It has an area of 6.7 km2 (2.6 sq mi) and is bordered to the north by Spain (Campo de Gibraltar). The landscape is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, at the foot of which is a densely populated town area, home to some 32,688 people (2022 estimate), primarily Gibraltarians.
Gibraltar is most famous for The Rock of Gibraltar, a 426 meter high limestone rock rising out of the sea. The rock can be seen for many miles. It is home to the Barbary Apes, a type of tail-less macaque which are the only wild monkeys in Europe.
A unique feature of the Rock is its system of underground passages, known as the Galleries or the Great Siege Tunnels. The first of these was dug towards the end of the Great Siege of Gibraltar, which lasted from 1779 to 1783.

We stayed at the hotel and visited Both Worlds. Shame the hotel has gone, but, as you said, that's progress!
I'm so pleased that you made this video, as I have been wanting to see the development and its progress. The design was only confirmed a few days ago. Like you, we don't visit the bay much; I used to do circular walks around the rock, but not for over a year now.
Anyway, I am excited to see new development, especially given the slow pace of redevelopment in Old Town.

We stayed at the "art deco" designed La Caleta hotel during our first visit to Gibraltar, many years ago. It looks like it will be a long time before its replacement is up and running! No doubt, it will be a nice hotel but, for character, it will struggle to match what was there before. Good to see, that despite the demise of the La Caleta hotel, there still seem to be two or three restaurants in Catalan Bay, so it should be worth a trip there when we return to Gibraltar in September. Thanks for the video, Janna.

Had lunch at the Sea Wave today with my parents! Thank you for showcasing what we have to offer in Gibraltar. Shame about the Levanter cloud! The Sea Wave also bought the second premises because of the high demand in summer. That's what we were told by Juan, the owner/manager.

Yes agreed whilst it’s by far not the worse design imaginable, it is a typical Hilton beds factory generic design that could be anywhere in the world. An opportunity to make a new hotel in an art deco design with pastel painted walls would have blended in well with the overall Catalan bay village look.
Yes, I thought they will bring a bit more character into the building and blending it in, I guess nobody cares 🤷♀️
