There is another solution call nano silver flouride that does the same but won't stain the teeth. It is in clinical trial and of course other countries use it in the treatment of cavity.

Hi Ala Bani, my 7 year old son has MIH. Started on his milk molar teeth top an bottom. No evidence on his incisor teeth. His secondary molars on the bottom have emerged and they are effected, again no evidence on his secondary incisors which have also emerged. So I want to start considering his long term treatment seriously. To date my nhs dentist in West Yorkshire (Cleckheaton) has applied white fillings, which has been ok. Is treatment using SDF available on the NHS? I believe that Leeds Dental School operates in or around Clarendon Wing in Leeds. Is there possibility of NHS or private treatment there? Since for him it’s effecting only his molars the staining seems irrelevant since they’re at the back and already brown from the MIH. Also, in my research I have found from the European Dentist authority that Glass Ionmer treatment is also proposed for MIH treatment. What do you think of that? Best wishes, Sarah

Does the application of just the silver fluoride component itself not stain the tooth black? Can I apply it just by itself if I just want to get the bactericidal benefit?

Hi Kate, we recommend that the application of silver diamine fluoride is only undertaken by a dental professional

Hi Kate, silver fluoride will stain dental caries, soft dentine and resin composite black due to the formation of silver phosphate on the surface.
