I had a new camper back in the early 2 thousands and I've done all this but it's been a good while so I appreciate the refresher. I also appreciate you giving the details without wasting time or anything to that effect. Your is very clear and concise, everything was covered Efficiently so thank you very much.
Just a note... I always pulled the black "blade valve" 2/3rds open, not all the way out. Flush or not, it tends to leave debris you don't want. 2/3rds open lets it empty slower thus "Everything has a chance to float downstream". 11 years or so camping taught me that. I do like the storage bumper great idea ! Great video Jack :)
Lots of help, Jack. First time camper owner here. Even though my "new" Nomad Skyline needs a new roof, everything else is aces. Now I know how to use it!
I found in my years of camping that this method doesn't work 100%, one year I had to replace a tank before and found out there was waste over in the corner, so what I have done was dropped deposit in thw black tank, that will break down the waste and take the water hose and run it inside of the bathroom down the toilet, fill it back up and go out lside pull the black tank level to then rinse it out. This cause a strong Vortec and pull whatever waste stuck inside ,once that has been done two or three times, your black tank is fairly clean, I didn't know that until I had to change a black tank that had a crack in it, once I removed that tank I found out it was a lot of waste still stuck up in the back corners... this message here only remove whatever's there but not a thorough cleaning once you are done shopping for the day and you want your tank clean the best way is to fill it from the inside..
Get a clear attachment that has a door that is like the black water door. It can be closed to allow you to push water all the way into the tank. Careful to not fill tank. With this attachment you are sure to clean tanks. Always use rubber gloves. Never use fresh water hose on anything dealing with grey or black water.
Love all your videos Jack, Watch all your trucking videos, and im a retired trucker (disabled) 23+yrs in a gas tanker. I also have a camp trailer similer to yours and enjoy it very much. Concider getting a water pressure regulater, I noticed you did'nt have one hooked up. It's cheap insurance for your water lines inside the coach. With some campgrounds having too much pressure, it could burst a water line inside your unit. They are cheap, and regulate the pressure so you dont get any unwanted flooding. Happy camping to you, and looking forward to the next video!! your freind, Ron
When I saw the threads of the hose bounce off the inside wall of the clear adapter...... I cringed IRL... made me remember that one time I got the tainted pina colada in Cancun.....
I always have two separate hoses with spares. Never use the white hose for this. Also connect hoses to themselves when stored to prevent anything from getting in.
I have a class b sprinter van and it can be hard with the low angle to the ground. Always trying to find the biggest and best accessories and faster ways to do this. Such a great tutorial.
Like your new channel Jack. Tip for you secure those bumper caps they will come off. I have been camping nearly 40 years and have seen it all. I enjoy watching anything to do with camping and the road.
A trucking recruiter! The name alone is very telling! I see you have a white hose connected to the washout of the dump hose! Typically a white hose is used for potable water (drinking or bathing) you wash out hose should be red or black. But coming from a trucking recruiter I am not surprised. Truck driver recruiters will tell you anything you want hear.
A local Walmart would let people park their campers in the parking lot at night. There was a ban for several months however. Turns out someone decided to shotgun their black and grey water into the storm drain. I've heard several RV enthusiasts say that is a cardinal-rule that was broken.
That was Awesome I completely understood that! Some UA-cam demonstrators explain it so confusing and don't show what there doing making it seem like rocket science, Your good!!!!! :)
I used this method and my tap water and shower now tastes like 'eggy, or skunky/farty' now. I used my white hose with a blue line to do it like this guy.
I'm subscribed to your trucking channel and I was here today trying to find anything that helps me doing this because it's gonna be my first time using an rv and when I heard your voice I was like is this Indiana jack and I end up knowing what u got a second channel thanks for the info sir keep on trucking
When using a hose for your fresh water hook up, don't let it come in contact with the ground or connect it to anything other than its purpose. Have a second hose in a different color for flushing the black tank out, it is not worth introducing fecal matter into your fresh water system. Also the gloves show do not stop liquid penetration, use some disposable nitrile gloves which are cheap enough on Amazon or at your local WallyWorld.
miss your trucking videos on your other UA-cam channel Jack really enjoy those videos and your videos on this channel educaltional Thanks for the great videos be safe out there trucking
Unfortunately, the 'rinsing gadget' clear piece only cleans the first elbow of the black tank pipe. The jet of water may bounce off the second elbow a little, but as far as rinsing the tank, nope. If you have a tank rinse built into it OR use one of the wands on the end of a hose down the toilet, you may get some more 'stuff' out.
I’m thinking of buying a camper. Mind you that I have never hooked up a fresh water hose to a camper or emptied a black tank. My question is for all the people talking about using two different hoses one for fresh and one for waste. I understand completely but are the two hoses hooked to the same water spigot? If so couldn’t that be a source for contamination?
Indiana Jack-what is the y connection u used to allow water to fill and flush out the tanks AFTER initial dump? Thanks--looks like a great addition to the camper tools.
I'm a newbie and finding it easy to find the clear elbow, but cannot find the clear elbow with a hookup for my garden hose? Any product suggestions? Thanks.
If you are hooked up to water, why not just flush the toilet a few times to “flush” the black tank? Also run the sink/shower for the grey tank to flush it? Doesn’t seem like the hose is actually getting into the tank due to all the bends.
Right on Jack! Great video, always wondered how that worked. I remember us having a camper years back but the water/sewer wasn't ever hooked up. Have a good'nnnnnn
I've pulled the levers after moving into my trailer (already hooked up) and it worked just fine for 9 months. I just recently moved, got all hooked up and now nothing comes out when I pull the lever to the grey tank. I know my tanks are full because I have water in my shower and sinks that aren't draining and my monitor thing tells me tank 1 is n the red and tank 2 is 1/3 full. Also my fresh water is in the yellow at 1/3 tank as well. So how do I drian my tanks if pulling the lever doesn't work? And how do I refill my fresh water when it's hooked up?
Hey Jack, I don't have my first RV just yet. It will probably be a Class B motorhome. Do you have video's on how to safely remove and refill your Propane Tanks? Thanks for the video by the way, its the first I watched on the subject. Thanks again.
Can you retrofit with a compost toilet? I heard wet toilettes smell bad whereas the composting toilettes don’t. Also, you could really get sick by using the black water tube with the potable drinking hose. Very very sick. That is a BIG no no.
Even with a check valve I tiny bit of contaminated water will come through when the valve closes and once you hook the line up to your campers drinking water it contaminates the plumbing inside also it makes it worse if you dump your tanks and put the hose away for a period of time it give bacteria time to grow
My kids always drink from those hoses and we just think it's so funny. They complain a little after so we just give them a little piece of candy to suck on. They are roughing it a little and I only drink beer and Moxie when I go camping. The only water I drink comes from the campground shower.
That clear attachment is for breaking up solids as they pass out of the black tank. It also helps cleaning the stinking slinky out after the black and gray are empty.
I have a very novice question. Does it really smell bad while your draining the tanks and cleaning them out? And in comparison to have a composting toilet? Also which one is easier to maintain? And have? Please anyone comment.
I just had about half a tank of black water waste accidently dumped into my downhill side of our RV site because the guy pulled the blk tank handle and walked away to do something else. As soon as he was out of sight, the hose come apart at the sewer connection dumping the mess down the hill into my site. NEVER< NEVER walk away or leave an open black or grey water tank draining unattended. Common sense doesn't always work on some people, so remind anyone you see doing this to NEVER walk away from a draining sewer line. Our weekend was ruined by this guys rookie mistake, don't let it happen to you!!
Jack check your tires if they are Chinese tires get rid of them ASAP, They only last about 12 months they dry rot and you'll be changing tires along side the road and if they let loose they will tear out the underside of your camper.
You had that 45 backwards. Running water through it is for the hose only, not for trying to flush back into your tank which obviously wasn’t happening because it just flows right back out.
Some travel trailers now come with sprays inside the black water tank as well as a different connections for the water hose so this type of stuff should never happen.
I had a new camper back in the early 2 thousands and I've done all this but it's been a good while so I appreciate the refresher. Hoosier and Newbie to camping here. Thanks Jack! Perhaps we will see you out there sometime. Have Fun!
Different color hoses work great for this. My white is dedicated to potable water. Gray for the black tank stuff and green as a regular water hose.

NEVER use the white drinking water hose for ANYTHING except drinking water! Get a regular garden hose for everything else PLEASE!
That's exactly what I though. The black water waste could have back flow into the drinking water hose, you could guess what is next.
Mike Hartman Lol. Eeewwww . I’m a full time RVEr never ever ever. Useya DRANKN HOSE
I cringed
When I saw the threads of the hose bounce off the inside wall of the clear adapter...... I cringed IRL... made me remember that one time I got the tainted pina colada in Cancun.....
nasty.. LOL..
GLAD TO SEE THAT YOU ARE TAKING SOME TIME OFF TO RELAX.

I have learned a lot since then and it's just easier to clean it through the toilet.
Jack, you have 2 great channels,I enjoy them both, by the way buy another hose please !!!!!!
Like your new channel Jack. Tip for you secure those bumper caps they will come off. I have been camping nearly 40 years and have seen it all. I enjoy watching anything to do with camping and the road.

Great info ,we're getting our rv this week first timer pretty much trying to get ready ,thank you
Keep us posted. I hope you enjoy it.

Some people ruin it for all of us.
Good job me I just winterized my campers one is a sportsmen and the other one is a citation WTG on your new camper have fun safe travels Jack

I Be Trollin' They Be Hatin'
and that’s why you use two different hoses. you’re probably tasting your own fecal matter.
Thank You for an Awesome video Indiana Jack, for this rookie, I've never seen that small hose attachment. I definitely need to get one.
Thanks Again!!
I'm subscribed to your trucking channel and I was here today trying to find anything that helps me doing this because it's gonna be my first time using an rv and when I heard your voice I was like is this Indiana jack and I end up knowing what u got a second channel thanks for the info sir keep on trucking

Cross contamination using the same hoses for fresh water and tank cleaning. I would use 2 different. That sound right? I'm still a rookie
Sounds right. You can buy a "Y" adapter with shut-offs and put that at the spigot to connect two hoses.
Huh? He mentions in the video that you should use 2 different fresh water hoses so they don't get contaminated....
Yes, it could have back flow into the water hose and contaminate it!
miss your trucking videos on your other UA-cam channel Jack really enjoy those videos and your videos on this channel educaltional Thanks for the great videos be safe out there trucking
Watch those bumber caps, they slide out on their own. I drilled a hole on mine to keep them in with a pin.
I have noticed that also, mine move with just the RV sitting in place.
@@_iLLuSiv3_ Interesting, what's going on inside the RV at the time:-)
Add a cup of Dawn dish soap to both tanks, it keeps tanks cleaner and makes the waste water smell like soap not sewer.
That sounds like a good idea.
Dawn creates a lot of suds - I've heard that a cup of dishwasher detergent (Cascade or similar) is a good alternative.
I’d think a cup of dawn would suds up quite a bit.
This was very helpful to a beginning camper
Cousin Eddie would approve.
This was so helpful
Hi Jack, Thanks for a great trucking series and now this channel..Keep them coming and keep on trucking :)
Everyone should put a back flow preventer on the hose just before the clean out. There are units that can be found at most big box stores
thanks jack I am always happy to watch any video that you upload, keep them coming all the best.
What a wonderful asset for you and your family
Unfortunately, the 'rinsing gadget' clear piece only cleans the first elbow of the black tank pipe. The jet of water may bounce off the second elbow a little, but as far as rinsing the tank, nope. Congrats on camper J. . Very nice one. Stay safe out there.

Saw a video on the fresh water sprayer with a clear tank. That fresh water did nothing to the tanks. It can’t reach that far because the drain valve
Thank you very much for the information...
Thanks.
Thanks for a great video. I do enjoy watching your channels. Great stuff.
Thank you for that tutorial seriously needed to know that stuff.
Please do not use the drinking water hose for the sewer. . . NEVER!
No you didn't
If you are hooked up to water, why not just flush the toilet a few times to “flush” the black tank? Also run the sink/shower for the grey tank to flush it?
Doesn’t seem like the hose is actually getting into the tank due to all the bends.
I thought you looked familiar. When you said Indiana jack I was like yea i subbed to his channel and I had just watched a video of yours
You made a nice video
Learned something new , Thanks Jack
Can you keep the gray and black water tanks open if you're connected to a septic system?
Hope you enjoyed your camper on that run.
The only device that works at all for cleaning out black water tanks is a rinsing wand with the highest pressure your hose can muster.
How is the water spraying into the tank with a couple bends like that ?
It really isn't. You have to spray in through the toilet to get it really clean.
Do you add any chemicals to your black water tank?
I leave my hose in the clear tube. Then I close both valves turn blue valve. I don't want my drinking hose to touch inside
You don't want the end of your potable water hose to touch _anything_ other than the RV's water inlet. Say it with me: E-Coli
Good job on the video!
Right on Jack! Great video, always wondered how that worked. I remember us having a camper years back but the water/sewer wasn't ever hooked up. Have a good'nnnnnn
Where can I buy that clear adaptor with the hose connector from.
Any camping store
Should we leave a little water in the Black water tank when in storage? I Don't live in freezing weather.
Thank you Jack
I've pulled the levers after moving into my trailer (already hooked up) and it worked just fine for 9 months. I just recently moved, got all hooked up and now nothing comes out when I pull the lever to the grey tank. I know my tanks are full because I have water in my shower and sinks that aren't draining and my monitor thing tells me tank 1 is n the red and tank 2 is 1/3 full. Also my fresh water is in the yellow at 1/3 tank as well. So how do I drian my tanks if pulling the lever doesn't work? And how do I refill my fresh water when it's hooked up?
hey jack you bought your trailer home.....well where is home besides every truck stop in america?
Hey Jack, I don't have my first RV just yet. It will probably be a Class B motorhome. Do you have video's on how to safely remove and refill your Propane Tanks? Thanks for the video by the way, its the first I watched on the subject. Thanks again.
Not yet but I might make one.
Holy smokes! It’s Indiana Jack.....and there’s no big rig!
Can you retrofit with a compost toilet? I heard wet toilettes smell bad whereas the composting toilettes don’t. Also, you could really get sick by using the black water tube with the potable drinking hose. Very very sick. That is a BIG no no.
I'm thinking of getting this RV model. Have you had any problems with it over the last year?
Is a cassette type waste unit better ?
got lumps in the fresh water, taste a little off?
Does that fitting have some kind of a check valve, that’s a cross connection. I didn’t see a vacuum breaker on the hose bib.
Even with a check valve I tiny bit of contaminated water will come through when the valve closes and once you hook the line up to your campers drinking water it contaminates the plumbing inside also it makes it worse if you dump your tanks and put the hose away for a period of time it give bacteria time to grow
I can smell it from here!
Very interesting. Have a nice day now.
My kids always drink from those hoses and we just think it's so funny. They complain a little after so we just give them a little piece of candy to suck on. They are roughing it a little and I only drink beer and Moxie when I go camping. The only water I drink comes from the campground shower.
🙈💩🙉💩🙊💩
Rubber gloves! I found out the hard way lol
I like your hat I am from Indiana.
Right on.
Awesome. Thanks n
how's your Coleman holding up do you like the bill quality so far
Thanks a lot!
You should get a water filter . I've got one on mine.
That hose dont clean the tanks. They have tested them and they dont work. It cleans the pipe at the end and that is it.
That clear attachment is for breaking up solids as they pass out of the black tank. It also helps cleaning the stinking slinky out after the black and gray are empty.
What does it hurt though? It helps to clean the end of the unit and the hose itself.
They only really work with straight pipes
Great video. Thanks
Very informative. Btw you look like Walter White :-D
I have a very novice question. Does it really smell bad while your draining the tanks and cleaning them out? And in comparison to have a composting toilet? Also which one is easier to maintain? And have? Please anyone comment.
I suppose if you get right down in there and sniff it it does. Very little sewage is actually exposed to outside.
I just had about half a tank of black water waste accidently dumped into my downhill side of our RV site because the guy pulled the blk tank handle and walked away to do something else. As soon as he was out of sight, the hose come apart at the sewer connection dumping the mess down the hill into my site. ty sir!
Yup Indiana jack ...I thought I recognized you
Please We Have To Repent And Gives Our Life To JESUS CHRIST ♥️🙏 He's Worthy To Be Praise 🙏
What about flushing the toilet to maker everything flow out? People do that?
Ya, that goes in the black tank.
How can you tell if the tanks are full?
These don't really work withe all of those turns(elbows). The turns would stop the spray .
How much was the camper ?
There is no way that nozzle sprays water up into the tanks past all those bends in the pipes.
Just drain the grey water on the grass it goes in like a drain feild with a septic system would
Jack check your tires if they are Chinese tires get rid of them ASAP, They only last about 12 months they dry rot and you'll be changing tires along side the road and if they let loose they will tear out the underside of your camper.
I am guessing you use that white Waterhose for your drinking water
Absolutely not.
😯😶
You had that 45 backwards. Running water through it is for the hose only, not for trying to flush back into your tank which obviously wasn’t happening because it just flows right back out.
I accidentally opened my black (for a few seconds) when trying to do the gray,.... At home. 😢
Just keep doing it and you will learn.
What is that adapter called?
this guy is crazy if he use his drinking water hose on that black water tank really!
Some travel trailers now come with sprays inside the black water tank as well as a different connections for the water hose so this type of stuff should never happen.
Yes, those are excellent.
use “Chemical Gloves”, like the roto rooter guys use
Just buy a trailer with a built in black tank flush.
Those are excellent.
