I think since the bestiary describes them as having childlike curiosity, the giants ahould be easily distracted, even mid chase, as right now, their sight is kinda broken, especially on the haed maps, given that they see you long befor you see them, and when combined with dogs, you're basically dead when it spots you.
The game actually plays an audio cue when you're in the giant's line of sight, but haven't been spotted yet. It's very useful since it lets you know to hide behind cover until the music stops playing
@@geckobreadthe sound is called “panic” and it usually happens when you are stressed such as Seeing a dead body, or getting scared from “something” etc
Man, screw these guys on Rend and Dine. Either you get lucky and they walk somewhere far away in the map, or they'll be patrolling nearby the ship, and now you have a behemoth with perfect eyesight that will see you before you even know where he is, and there's basically no cover on these maps so you're most likely dead without teleporter or flashbangs. They're FOREST keepers, wtf did they forget on snowy mountains lol? I hope Insym's idea will be added in future updates, where if you drop a two-handed object, giant will focus on it instead and will start chewing on it for solid 30 seconds minimum, preferably for a minute since you do sacrifice possibly valuable loot. It's not too broken, and it'd fit perfectly with their "5 year old that will put anything it finds interesting in its mouth" lore.
I was playing solo and got an eclipsed rend. A giant had spawned right at the entrance and i died because i couldnt see shit or make sense of the precise location from the stomping
1 min is way too much. that would make it too easy. dropping an item for the giant should be a last resort to get away, and therefore only distract it for 5-10 sec (which should be plenty of time to get away). other than that, it's part of the game to stay out of it's sight.
I don't find giants on Rend and Dine that bad cause you can just bait them away, the two maps are huge. But giants on Titan are extremely annoying, because even if you bait them away they just come right back to patrolling the same area outside the ship and bottom stairs. And when you get giants and dogs (which is like 90% of the time on Titan), getting ANY loot back to the ship becomes a complete nightmare.
As intimidating as it can be to maneuver past them, I like the detail in the bestiary that they are very similar in many ways to a human toddler, being very curious and eating random things it finds interesting. To me it makes them seem a lot less scary, more like being chased around by an enormous baby.
I saw a bunch of discourse talking about how giants couldn't break the bridge and always found it funny because my first ever interaction with the Giant was it coming across the bridge towards me and breaking it
The flash from the radar booster is probably the other best way to stop them (aside from baiting them away from the ship). You can keep flashing them pretty much indefinitely. This does require someone to stay in terminal though to keep sending the flash command. But yeah, in my opinion they're the most difficult monster in the game at the moment (coil heads are a close 2nd) and there are definitely scenarios where you will die to giants no matter what you do. I think either giants vision distance needs nerfed or stamina duration should be increased by around 10-20% (imo the game needs this for other reasons as well).
Tried that with my friend. I was the one flashing the booster in the ship. It did blind my friend but the giant just did not give one single crap about it
Another common misconception is that giants can react to player sounds (you mentioned how they ignore all objects and even the drop pod). There is code in the game files for giants to be able to react to player voices, but for whatever reason it doesn't actually trigger in-game. You can be as loud as you want, giants can't hear. Most enemies in the game can't hear, actually. Just dogs (duh), baboon hawks, and mimics. ...and hoarding bugs but sounds just make them look at you.

Very helpful video. These are my most hated enemy because they are so annoying to deal with. Will definitely try to employ the baiting and teleporting strategy in the future
One very specific fact about giants is that on Titan, there's one spot where giant could spawn just in front of the main entrance door. I have repeatedly seen it just climb up the ground. I have seen people jump down Titan's fire exit staircase because they are surprised to see the giant when they exit.
Quick question At 1:10 you mentioned the giant keeps a better eye on a player thats spotted, but does this only count for that player? Or will the giant also spot the player's crewmates easier?
you can use the zap gun to escape giants, but it is very inconsistent according to my testing. You need to position yourself and fire the gun at a range where the gun starts firing once you have been grabbed by the giant, if you do this correctly you can stun the giant for the duration of your stamina regen and then run and repeat the process until you reach safety. The main issue is that if you do it too early the beam just breaks immeadtly and you die due to the gun's overheat cooldown, and if you do it too late you get killed by some sort of weird fall damage, the inconsistency also lies in that the gun either fires imeadtly or is delayed a little bit depending on how close you are, if you are really close the gun just fires right away, but if you are slightly far it first does the scan and then it fires for some reason
Don't forget about its rare state when its not gonna chase or attack a player even if player is close and in a site of vision, they will just walk around for some amount of time. Its super rare but could happen
very interesting! have you ever thought about doing a video on specific maps? at some point i heard about an alternate faster route to the door on one of the mansion planets, but i can't find anything on it. or maybe videos on how to get to hard to reach fire exits and back?
Going left around the mountain instead of following the lights around the right on rend is probably what you're referring to. It's not that much faster, but it's a bit more of a straight line.
It'd be cool if there was a way to kill them that would spill out the items they've eaten. Also, maybe if you zap them and move behind them for 3 seconds, they would lose aggro?
You should mention that it can grab you if you’re on the outside of the ship and it’s taking off because this happened to my friend and it killed our really good run 😭😭😭 But very informative thanks!
If you get spotted, wait a bit until he resets his statue. Will you be able to stay hidden far away if you are crouched? And yes l know, the advanced hide concepts probably don't fit here But l had more fun with dogs because you can sneak around. But once the giant sees you, oh boy, hope you could see him before he saw you first
1:05 Any way to get in more detail about crouching or is this an area that requires more testing? I thought crouching did nothing. Personally, I find great success with sprinting from tree to tree and playing off which direction the giant is facing.
Crouching and standing still lowers the chance that giants specifically will spot you when in line of sight. It's generally better to get behind cover than stand still, but crouching is a good idea when moving between cover.
Dont nerf giants. Making them this dangerous fits their vibe. The first time i saw one i shit my pants and went back inside where a thumper was because that was clearly better in my mind.
I think instead of making them weaker, they should be restricted more on which maps they can appear (commonly) on, and hopefully new outdoor enemies can be added to give other moons some extra variety.
@ZeroKitsune Yeah, more variety outdoor could help the game greatly. It improved the replayability and the amount of funny moments. I agree. Although I do think it's fine where they do spawn now, on the harder moons and the forest moons like their name suggests. Though I would like to see baboon hawk spawn rates increased for easier moons, this will indirectly make the giant rarer.
Do nerf giants, but nerf giants differently. Don't make them weaker, killable, slower, or something like that. Play into their, let's say, lore. They're childlike, unconscious, benevolent in their accidental malice. They need to remove the afterstate. The afterstate of after seeing a player, sticking around and aggressively seeking them out and camping indefinitely. That needs to go immediately. Remove that, keep the rest - giants would be perfect then. To further emphasize - when they spot the player and chase, after you hide from them for, what, three seconds or so, they should go back to idly wandering around. What they do at the moment is akin to what the video said - after seeing a player once, they enter into hunt state - even if you hide from them, they stick around the vicinity of place of where they last saw a player and they patrol there more aggressively as well as spotting you more easily from that point onward. It is stupid. I just can't tell the amount of times I died and lost everything because a giant kept camping around the ship or the entrance while I was either trying to get in/out of the ship or in/out the entrance. Keep in mind holding it does about 1/5th of your hp on detonation.

If you are picked up by the giant, can you use zap gun to escape ?
You can't activate items in the Giant's hand. The only way you can save yourself is having a flash bang, and pulling the pin just before it grabs you, then either dropping, throwing or holding it so that it hits the giant when you are grabbed. Keep in mind holding it does about 1/5th of your hp on detonation.
Actually giant deals dmg to player because you can stun him while he's eating the player and player will recieve critical dmg instead of being killed immediately
The critical damage is from the stunt grenade
The homemade one
If get grabbed on the bridge and it collapses, do you still get eaten?
Yes. The giant also kinda floats awkwardly in the air until the animation is complete.
0:18 not true actually I got saved by the rocket landing on it once on titan

hey i played GTFO with you!
I remember :)
Hello bread! I would like to give some feedback:
While your tone of speech is clear and wellspoken there is a quite long pause between clips before you speak again. İts not annoying or whatever but I think it would be better with a shorter pause.
I usually have these pauses to people can focus more on the video part to see the demonstration. But will keep in mind! Thanks :)
maybe just you, for me it's really helpful to see what bread's talking about while he speaks.
Agree with @blackrobe here. Your pauses and pacing are one of the main reasons I like this channel. Nice to have a break from the nonstop screaming adhd fest that is most gaming content.
thank you
I have made one walk in circles in v45 with a laser pointer, you point it at the floor, not at them. They are Giant babies in the lore and go investigate.

I nearly walked away from one and lived while someone was greifing me with speed mods.wait for your stamina to refresh 33% and you can outrun them. be prepared to lose your loot tho. Vanilla all the way.
The Comments here are the reason why i gave you away
I did not promote this, adding to the banned words soon :/

Day 1 of asking Bread to marry me
No
better luck next time ppiddles
damn
There's also a thing where you can actually distract Giant with laser pointer if it's not in chase mode, just like with cats (the chase part too, yes). Really helps getting him away from the ship if someone needs to get in safely.
This isn’t true and I even mentioned it in the video lmao
@@call_me_bread somehow worked for me flawlessly everytime
They should be nerf just because they are so inconsistent and can be bs slot of the time
