IMO it seems like everyone has an Omega SMP or Tudor BB58. This is a great piece to acquire to differentiate yourself from the masses. In terms of cost....spending more than $50 bucks on a watch is unnecessary.
Why is this so much more expensive than the MM300. What’s the qualitative difference? I love the way it looks but that price seems ambitious considering it doesn’t even have a hi-beat or Spring Drive movement.
Yeah I agree, I’m in the market for a mm300 and love this …but the mm300 having a bracelet and being available new for half the price trumps the thinner case and nicer steel for me.
Beautiful watch, but common guys, $4,600! Bezel allignement looks ok, but none signed crown and no bracelet.... I'll pass and go for way less money, not limmited, but way better Longines that had 80 hours power reserve and COSC certified...
In my opinion, the watch design, dial, case, and finish are excellent and deserve the price tag. Only watch snobs wouldn't consider it. But hold on, I don't consider myself a watch snob but the 2 things that aren't acceptable at this price tag are, number 1 is the movement accuracy as I expect a COSC level accuracy at this price level; number 2 is the power reserve as I expect it to be at least at 70 to match the likes of Tudor, Omega, Rolex. If Seiko put in the spring drive movement with no power reserve on the dial or a high beat with higher accuracy in this watch, I would definitely buy it. With they way it's packaged now, and at this price, I wouldn't buy it. Thanks for the vid, Rob. Happy New Year!
@@nightstalker824 I keep telling my friend if you lose the zaratsu finish, it's a 2-3k watch. It's special, it's beautiful...but it's not worth it's price tag to anyone but a fanboy for sure
I’m guessing I’m a fanboy. I have a 6309 I bought in the USN PX in Naples in 1978. It rarely left my wrist for a punishing 3.5 year stint in the #3 engine room of USS Forrestal and 13 years in a Hospital boiler room after that. It’s a safe queen now but its still running strong on a winder and made a couple hundred dives to 130’ . I gifted myself a SLA057 that arrives this Friday.
Stunning timepiece. I have many different levels of Seiko divers and I wouldn’t pay anywhere near that price for what it is. It most certainly needs an 8L55 movement to start with.
I think this watch is worth it! I have the SLA043 which is $4500 and it's great. The brushing is next level and is definitely accentuated by the bright look of the Ever Brilliant steel. Every 8L35 I've had runs at COSC levels. I personally prefer the 043 and this watch to the standard Omega SMP 300. Movement and name on the dial are the only clear advantages the SMP has imo. Actually let my SMP 300 and BB58 go while the 043 remains. Do your self a favor and check these out!!
The problem is exclaiming that in your experience the 8L has run within COSC. It should, it’s $4500. This should be an expectation, not a surprise. There are COSC certified watches for 1/10th the price. Yet it is a surprise, because we know how Seikos vary. Personally I’ve had probably 15 6r (15 and 35) and none of them have run within COSC. Some of those watches were >$1k. That said if I had $100k in my watch box I’d probably have one 8L.
The one &L I had ran at 15 seconds fast per day, I wasn’t impressed.. I really liked the watch though. On the other hand my 6r15 is 15 seconds fast after a month lol. Seiko just needs to regulate their movements.
Accuracy isn't a huge deal to me personally. At higher price points, I'm much more interested in levels of finishing and bezel action. These watches deliver that and then some!
I paid $3500 for mine and it is worth every penny! Finishing on this watch is better than a Tudor and as good as an Omega or even Rolex for much less. This is a premium Seiko diver that looks amazing! I put a jubilee bracelet on it and it is now one of my favorite watches.
This is a great watch I could sneak past my missus. I could tell her this was £400/$450 and she’d believe me but I’d have an awesome watch 😄😄 I would genuinely consider this but it’s a bit out of my price range, as nice as it is I’ll likely pick up an mm300 which are now available new for less than half of this.
Just bought it!! Just an incredible time piece. Many would pay £1000’s more if it had a Swiss name to it. As a seiko fan boy I’m delighted to have it and for others to have no idea how high end it is simply because it’s not Swiss.
Congratulations on your purchase of this rare icon. I love the SLA055 more than the Most Covetted MARINE MASTER 300. The dimensions on the SLA is perfect for most wrist sizes. My watch collection is valued at 6000 USD and am seriously considering selling them all and buy 1)SLA055 2)TUNA QUARTZ 300M and 3)ALPINIST. Am 45years old and I am opting for quality over Quantity. All the best bro. Greetings from USA 🇺🇸
@@1malikalik I’m going to buy it this week. I’ve compared it to the GS Diver and the SLA055 is much better - better than a submariner and Tudor - sell your watches up & get one 👍
Good looking watch but overpriced. Not COSC-certified, no bracelet and poor choice of date window placement. I'll take my Tudor BB58 over this all day. This is $1300 more than I paid for my Tudor.
Interesting point. For that much, I sure hope it’s not +15 to -25 spd. I know much more expensive brands don’t care about accuracy, but I personally ding them for that as well.
If they would do one with a spring drive in this case shape/size/finishing and a bracelet... it would probably cost 10K but that would be dope AF. Jumped for the SLA043 over this because i dont love the baby blue bezel color fill but otherwise this thing seems to be perfect.
Very nice, love it, but my personal cut off point for Seiko is under £2k - I don't doubt it's quality but for over that I'm buying used Omega. Much prefer the date placement on this compared to the awful 3 position ( tho much prefer no date) I'd pick this over a Tudor anyday!! Very nice tho. Cheers 👍👍
I think Tudor is way way over price with there ATA movement. This is a grand sieko movement hand built . Sieko has every right to go up scale the dials and cases and finishing are on par with Rolex and much nicer than Tudor finishing for sure
For that price point no bracelet and 200m water resistant that should be almost 500m water resistant and helium escape valve at least otherwise just buy the mas remakes
I mean it's more or less a Grand Seiko right? It was made in the same house using lots of the same finishing techniques? Still, 5k? That's SOO steep. It's almost perfect...I wish it didn't have a date window at all. I mean, is this what we have to pay to have well lined up chapter rings and bezel? It's not even hi-beat. I mean I guess they're putting themselves in this price market because there's no many high end dive watches at this price point. I'm conflicted...not the first Seiko dive watch to be this expensive but I just don't see what's so special about it that should get me to spend GS money on it
Are not spend your money on... Seiko is not your department store watch anymore. They have plenty of watches under 1000 heck even 100 . This is not it not sure why all the rant don't buy it'll still sell out
Nice to see this at 13mm thin. Why not put this in the non-limited line-up, call it the "new" MM300, price it at $3100 like the current MM300, and blow the competition away?
Yeah it almost feels like a Seiko alternative to the yachtmaster on oyster flex. It’s nice, really nice but the mm300 with bracelet and silicon strap is available new, for half what this costs. This is nicer and “more premium” but for me it’s just a bit out of my reach
I like the design of the watch but for the price it doesn't have something special about it. The dial is amazing but so is the dial on the newer save the oceans.
I like the watch, especially that bezel. It has an aggressive look to it. The 4 o'clock crown mixed with the date window at 430 looks a bit odd though. Would have been wicked if it had no date at all. They will come out with a cheaper version of this watch in 3-6 months. I will buy that one.
Yes I think Seiko have taught us over the last few years that if you like a limited edition watch they put out all you have to do is wait and you will get a largely identical watch for 1000 less in 6 months to a year
I feel like they need to make the cases more different between the 8L and 6R lineups. Just isn't enough different /upgraded to justify to price hike for me. At least a different case I can't get elsewhere might tempt me a little more
such a beautifull watch. i don't see why they made this a limited edition? its so beautifull. close to a submariner. but slightly different. i like how the plate isn't just all black. but it has this nice greyish fade to it. i love seiko
The sla line is stunning! I have the sla021 and sla033 and they are both absolutely beautiful! I would definitely consider this for around $3400 which you can find second hand under $4000
I've bought Seiko SLA025 and it had a problem, going 5 secs faster every hour, had to return it for a refund, now I do not buy any expensive Seikos anymore, I don't buy cheaper Seikos too after they released a non limited version of my last purchase, the Alpinist SPB199 LE, which I like very much, but I really hate Seiko marketing, no more new Seikos for me, thanks :)
I kinda think Seiko lost their mind with that price. But I guess they have some type of marketing research that tells them that some people will buy that watch at that price.
Gorgeous piece 👍. Love what Seiko has done with it. My first thought after you mentioned the price was I might be closer at this point to getting an Omega Seamaster for about the same price (since I've never owned one). I've owned Seiko's since '73. Until the mid-2000's, I had only owned 3 non-Seiko watches. If you think about it; this is ingenious on Seiko's part. They're very methodical & don't rush into anything. I see them tweaking (enhancements/improvements) Grand Seiko then pricing them to the next level.
I finally caved and pulled the trigger not on the 055 but I went for the 075 which from my research that the only major difference that I could find is the 055 and 057 are limited editions 055 1300pcs, 057 600pcs and both are ever brilliant steel and the 075 has the 316L stainless steel and is a US Special Edition and then finally the major price differences $4,600 055 and 057 and the 075 $2,800 which I definitely did not pay that price. Then the other model is the 073 which has a bracelet US Special Edition and is $2,900. I don’t understand Seiko’s thought process. I can understand the two limited being the ever brilliant steel for not having a ever brilliant steel bracelet that would have increased the already crazy high price of $4,600 but as to why the 075 that I just could not pass the deal that my AD offered me but the 075 should have came with the bracelet just like the 073. I am pretty sure that it will sing to me and I in fact feel it’s a keeper then the bracelet from the 073 will fit all of the models and from what I have found and seen is that the 073 bracelet does match the two ever brilliant steel limited expensive models and there is no noticeable steel coloration difference but I priced the bracelet from Seiko and it’s simply over inflated sky high in price at $415 dollars! Yet the 075 that does not come with the bracelet is only $100 difference in the retail price compared to the 073 that comes on the bracelet which retails at $2,900. So tomorrow saturday the 13th I’ll know immediately the second I open the box and see it live real time whether it to be a keeper or a costly shipping mistake due to my not having a Seiko AD near me so I only relied on as many photos and reviews of seeing it. Videos and photos sometimes still not offer the same as seeing it in person. If I keep it then I’ll end up getting the overpriced bracelet for it and the unbelievable discount that was the reason I caved and got it will be gone and I know I will definitely have to have the bracelet if I keep it. After writing this out a part of me is still wondering if I should have just gotten the ORIS Aquis X with the coolest greenish blue color dial I’ve seen with a good looking stainless bezel that I’m still in deep debate over. Rod if you know the ORIS Aquis X that the dial was made from the plastic removed from the ocean that has a greenish blue unique color dial 43.5mm on the bracelet if by chance you come across that model and don’t mind reviewing it briefly please do but only if convenient for you. I would love to see that one up close and to hear your thoughts on it. If I end up getting it then I am going to have my AD order the Aquis red rubber strap to get with in addition to the nice bracelets that ORIS makes. I just wish they weren’t integrated. I may have written myself into sending the seiko 075 right back and getting the ORIS instead. I always enjoy your content. It’s the best. It helps and you make UA-cam look easy! I would be thrilled to one day reach 1,000 subs mark lol. If it ever even happens. I’m at around 365 subs and cant seem to figure out the X factor that will enable my channel to just gain just a little momentum. Enjoyed and I left a like! Kashton @DiveWatcher
I just picked up the 140th Anniversary Ltd edtion...big brother to your MM reduced. I think it competes directly with this watch...all the same specs but with a 300m depth rating. It's $2k cheaper and it comes on a quick adjust bracelet with the extra green rubber strap. Why would anyone want to pay an extra $2k for the SLA?
Awesome profi look. For the price tag, it would justify more, if is more like MM300 dial tag text. This is basically similar like MM200 (X logo, and 200m). that other MM200 reduced at 4:15 has stainless steel bezel coated with Titanium black carbon if I am not mistaken. I have blue model SPB187J1
Rob the insert on the MM200 is stainless steel but they use a coating that is a "Ceramic" so when it hardens you get that gloss and protection. So saying it's ceramic is accurate. Not sure why Seiko doesn't promote this more as the results are excellent.
I do not own a seiko. I won’t go in to detail but I own quite a few high end watches. Why would anyone pay this kind of money for a prospex when they could purchase a grand seiko. Please explain.Feels like buying a Tudor instead of Rolex but even worse.
seiko watches are like a tank [not the so called cartier tank for which people spend 5k for a quartz with a fake nipple crown that cant take a beating]... issue is I have a $400 mini PADI turtle and its awesome; put it on the wrist while i go for surfing and sea fun and forget about it.... believe its as good as this $4600 SLA... I also have a GS SBGA375 so I know the quality difference etc... but just for few specs etc. is it worth to spend $4000 thats a big question!
not sure about bezel insert material? so u haven't done your research before making a "review" of a watch? bezel feels like a seiko???? but high end seiko bezel?? so u assume we all have a high end Seiko dive watch that we know how it feels??
This watch is suffering an identity crisis, a mishmash. Is it a LX, a GS or a new version of the MM200? Shinier steel with no bracelet and an unregulated movement does not cut it at this price.
For the price difference is there much of a difference in finishing between this and the 300 m Marinemaster? I'm planing on getting the blue Marinemaster this year.
I just bought an SLA 075. It cost $2800. It appears to be literally identical to this watch except it has a gray dial. So basically by waiting a year, I saved $1700, I think. Posting this in September 2023.
Seiko should simplify their movement lineup. They have such rich history and so many iconic watches they can profit from with a historic revival line if done right. They should upgrade the 6R movement to 4Hz and also make a GMT version. Those, along with the 8R chrono would be a great base for some fantastic new watches between 1 and 3k. You'd have divers inspired by the 6217, SKX, 6215, 6105, 6309 and 6159 Tuna , Navigators inspired by the 6117 and Speedtimers inspired by the 6138/6139 . Then they can have a more affordable quartz/solar line with divers inspired by the 7548/7C43 and 7549, chronos inspired by 7A28 and so on. I'm sure there are other models they can draw inspiration from to make a killer catalogue with just a handful of pretty basic (mostly) movements. That way they can stop mudding the waters between Seiko and Grand Seiko leaving GS and their movements/offerings as a separate and more luxurious line. Can you imagine having brand new iterations of the 6105, 6117 and 6139 as a 3 watch collection for just a bit more than this SLA0055? What watch(es) would you want to have in that scenario? I'd pretty much buy most of the above in a few years. They would make so much more profit than what they are making from SLA releases. As things stand I can't even convince myself to buy the SPB151 or SPB 143 because they feel compromised releases in therms of movement and size among other things.
Something underrated & worth noting about this piece is the almost seamless transition of the sloped bezel to the domed sapphire crystal. IMO it wears thinner and has such a unified, solid, high quality presence on wrist because of this transition. I own an SPB185 (basically a lower level version of this SLA) whuch has a flat sapphire crystal and definitely does not feel as refined as this SLA.
we are living in the time now that some G-shocks are running up to $6000, so I don't think the price point of this watch is too much However, I wouldn't pay retail for one and I am sure most of us who buys Seiko even their high end models do not pay retail for one.

The price would be closer to 6k for Spring Drive given the cost of other spring drive divers
@@nightstalker824 I keep telling my friend if you lose the zaratsu finish, it's a 2-3k watch. It's special, it's beautiful...but it's not worth it's price tag to anyone but a fanboy for sure
@@nightstalker824 I am a fan boy but I won’t buy it!! I ll stick with my SLA021! Thanks
Comedy from seiko, I have mm300 bought mint condition for £1k years ago, this is 3.5 times more expensive, for exactly what. 🤔
Well done sir!
No way… It’s nice… It’s $1700 nice! No way I’m buying this over a Tudor black bay, A Pelagos, Or an Omega Seamaster 300 professional!
There is nothing crazy about 4-5k dollars Seiko. It's only for people who don't know or accustomed to Seiko being a cheap mall-brand. I
Stunning timepiece.
Where did you get a bracelet for this?

Does this price disgust me ? Yes.....do I want one?....yes...lol
OMG I rather an OMEGA! I love cheesey SKELETON HAND SETS and a slow jagged sweep of 25,200 VPH!
That watch is absolutely fabulous 👍 thanks Rob
i spit my drink out when he said $4000! thats a lot of cash for a slightly fancier SKX
This is a great watch I could sneak past my missus. I could tell her this was £400/$450 and she’d believe me but I’d have an awesome watch 😄😄
I would genuinely consider this but it’s a bit out of my price range, as nice as it is I’ll likely pick up an mm300 which are now available new for less than half of this.
@@APBCTechnique I agree 👍. Congratulations on your purchase of the SLA055 and may you live to enjoy it. God bless
@@APBCTechnique jup my sub is a loser in comparison with my sla055.. its true. The finnish is on a totally different level.
I have one.. i like it cuz it looks like a $350 prospect and no one pays attention 😂
I know much more expensive brands don’t care about accuracy, but I personally ding them for that as well.
super super nice watch.... better than a Rolex sub !! Walks the floor with Tudor and Omega, this is a Rolex killer. It is even better in the flesh.
I traded my Tudor BB Burgandy for this watch and love everything about it.
Much prefer the date placement on this compared to the awful 3 position ( tho much prefer no date)
I'd pick this over a Tudor anyday!!
Very nice tho. Cheers 👍👍
Absolutely. Omega all day long at this price point.
Rob and Seiko same old Story in the new year lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 happy new year rob 👌😎👍
Waaaayyyyy too expensive. I’d buy a Tudor for that price. Wow.
…but thanks for showing us that piece.
I think Tudor is way way over price with there ATA movement. This is a grand sieko movement hand built . Sieko has every right to go up scale the dials and cases and finishing are on par with Rolex and much nicer than Tudor finishing for sure
You mean Thats Tudor is nicer? Lool Tudor brand for Lemmings.
For that price point no bracelet and 200m water resistant that should be almost 500m water resistant and helium escape valve at least otherwise just buy the mas remakes
If it says GS on it, there would be no problem
This is not it not sure why all the rant don't buy it'll still sell out
This watch is for rich people who hope down the line the AD will offer them something they really want
Good guess.
Nice to see this at 13mm thin. Why not put this in the non-limited line-up, call it the "new" MM300, price it at $3100 like the current MM300, and blow the competition away?
Great watch. I agree with your comment.
Good point. Seems like their really trying to move upmarket, and quickly.
That is exactly what I think they will do in about 6 months.
Yeah it almost feels like a Seiko alternative to the yachtmaster on oyster flex. It’s nice, really nice but the mm300 with bracelet and silicon strap is available new, for half what this costs. This is nicer and “more premium” but for me it’s just a bit out of my reach
kinda pricey. I will stay with my MM200 reduced
Which will add looks better than the 0055.
I like the design of the watch but for the price it doesn't have something special about it. The dial is amazing but so is the dial on the newer save the oceans.
Not sure if you found out or not, but since you asked, the bezel insert on this model is indeed real ceramic.
At least a different case I can't get elsewhere might tempt me a little more
Good looking watch (especially that blue dial color) with a great size for my 7.5” wrist, but prefer other watches at that price point.
Gorgeous looking watch but it’s overpriced…….
such a beautifull watch. i don't see why they made this a limited edition?
its so beautifull. close to a submariner. but slightly different. i like how the plate isn't just all black. but it has this nice greyish fade to it.
i love seiko
The sla line is stunning! I have the sla021 and sla033 and they are both absolutely beautiful! I would definitely consider this for around $3400 which you can find second hand under $4000
I've bought Seiko SLA025 and it had a problem, going 5 secs faster every hour, had to return it for a refund, now I do not buy any expensive Seikos anymore, I don't buy cheaper Seikos too after they released a non limited version of my last purchase, the Alpinist SPB199 LE, which I like very much, but I really hate Seiko marketing, no more new Seikos for me, thanks :)
Stunning watch. Sadly, can no afford right now. 😢
Completely random but ,something that is weird with this video, is it somehow changes my contraste level on my Android 🤨🧐???

@DiveWatcher
I'd say at about 43mm, Seiko makes solid modern full-size divers in that range.
I would buy that watch at a 2,500 price, so they should make a non-limited version.
"Ummm I don't know anything about this watch but I will blab about it for 10 worthless minutes".
Rob the insert on the MM200 is stainless steel but they use a coating that is a "Ceramic" so when it hardens you get that gloss and protection. So saying it's ceramic is accurate. Not sure why Seiko doesn't promote this more as the results are excellent.
Too expensive but great camera upgrade, loving the 4k and HDR. Excellent upgrade for the channel 👌
That’s a good looking watch. I like the case shape and finishing.
I would love to have one.
If you think SLA 055 is expensive why you look at SLA 065 . 2900 $ and they are same
Thank you for this review. Reminds me of SLA017
really like it… Seiko and G-Shock are still the Kings.
Another amazing dive watch from Seiko. Luv the case design, Thanks for sharing Rob!
Very very nice... How I wish it was their spring drive in it like some of their LX.
Nice watch but too pricey for Seiko imo, hopefully a non limited version comes out.
I tried calling Nick as suggested, and a recording says the wireless customer is not available.
For the price difference is there much of a difference in finishing between this and the 300 m Marinemaster? I'm planing on getting the blue Marinemaster this year.
Beautiful!
For sure speaking to Seiko it’s not a ceramic bezel
I like it👍
I just bought an SLA 075. It cost $2800. It appears to be literally identical to this watch except it has a gray dial. So basically by waiting a year, I saved $1700, I think. Posting this in September 2023.
It’s not made of ever-brilliant steel…
It's like a son of Sub married to Bathyscaphe
Not sure what the bezel is made of but for 5 grand it certainly better be. Especially since a king turtle is and that’s 1/10th the price.
The way Seiko does coated metal it’s not any less then ceramic. They do amazing work with that.
It is ceramic.
Could they at least have given it a fitted fkm strap?
this watch made for SEIKOpaths ........
Divers hit the sweet spot.
It's great. In any way lesser then breitling, oris or any other entry level luxury brand. 100% worth the price.
we are living in the time now that some G-shocks are running up to $6000, so I don't think the price point of this watch is too much However, I wouldn't pay retail for one and I am sure most of us who buys Seiko even their high end models do not pay retail for one.
1200$ watch an that's it not a penny more
