Very helpful tutorial. I'm currently testing Markup R-XP and it was nice to see some of the differences between the 2 apps. I can see where Pattern Keeper would be more useful in certain situations and vice versa. Since both are priced at around $10-11 dollars, it seems worthwhile to invest in both. Thanks for a very informative tutorial.
Very clear and helpful. Thank you so much. One question. Does it matter which Kindle? I’m going to buy one just for this app. Will the cheapest model work well? Or should I get a little more expensive one?
This is the cheapest Fire as far as I know. I did have to research how to get “google Play” on the kindle so that I could download the Pattern Keeper app. You can only get it through Google Play. Don’t get frustrated with the process… in the end it does work! 🙂
@@SassyStaci thank you. I’m trying out markup-R-XP right now. It’s a bit of a problem with an Orenco chart, but worked great with Artecy chart. I think it’s probably worth going with pattern keeper, but I’m still trying out this one before I get the kindle.
I don’t use this (yet?) but I don’t really see any reason why it wouldn’t work for non-full coverage designs. The features are just as useful if you’re stitching without using up all the squares on the chart.
Pattern Keeper has a list of designers that it is compatible with. The reason that it doesn’t do well with most cross stitch designs is because it is not compatible with any backstitch, French knots, or partial stitches. This is why it works best with full coverage large pieces (they don’t have backstitching). It might work for pieces that have only crosses but aren’t full coverage if the designer is on their list. I downloaded a PDF that was on Etsy for a piece that was not a supported designer and it had isssues. Pattern keeper could not recognize many of the symbols used and recognized some two different symbols as being the same symbol. You cannot change it if the app doesn’t recognize the symbol.
Sorry I didn’t see this comment until now. I usually do white floss before really dark colors because if you stitch a white x next to a dark one the white will pull through tiny little fibers of the dark.
Love the tutorial, thank you! I have a question. I manually typed in my DMC colors and when i finished I made a mistake and duplicated two sympols the same color. Can I change the symbol color. I didn't see an edit button.
Sorry I’m just now responding. If you go to the menu for that pattern on the Home Screen (where all your patterns are listed) there is an option for “edit legend”. You can change your DMC numbers here. It is a possibility however that Pattern Keeper did not recognize the difference between the two symbols and therefore automatically put the same DMC number on the two symbols. It may not have been your mistake. If this is the case, then there is no way to fix it.
I have the patterns that I bought on my computer. I can upload to dropbox. Will I be able to use those or can I only buy at the time of uploading them to Pattern Keeper?
If they came via email, just save your email and then you can save the pdf from that email onto the device that your pattern keeper app is on. If that pdf is on the same device as your pattern keeper app then you can open it with pattern keeper. Remember though that some designers aren’t compatible with the app.
@@SassyStaci I no longer have the computer that the email came on. It died out. I just have the pdf saved from the email. I would have to put the pdf on my phone since I no longer have a tablet. I'm thinking Pattern Keeper is not the best choice for me. Do you know of another that I can just open the pdf on my computer and highlight? Thank you so very much for getting back to me.
@@amybicute I had one that I had to manually enter one time. I did have to enter every single color myself (even black 310). PK didn’t do well distinguishing between symbols and I ended up not using PK for that particular chart.
@@Marian514 I would suggest making sure the settings and shortcuts are correct for how you like it. Even if you don’t have a double tap shortcut to park, it should allow you to park when you have just one stitch highlighted. I don’t know a fix if neither of these ideas help, sorry.
Thank you. I haven’t exported any patterns because I only have one device with Pattern keeper on it. Should I get a new device, I’ll have to export my patterns probably. Maybe I will figure out how that works and make another short video. Thanks for the feedback
This is a fantastic tutorial. Great job!!! For those of you who don't have an Android device, you can get it to work with either a Mac or Windows PC with an Android emulator. Here is a good video on how to set that up: ua-cam.com/video/qHucMwhaR2o/v-deo.html
Thank you for this! I've been on the fence about getting it and after seeing this I'm sold. Great tutorial!!
Thank you so much for watching. And thank you for your feedback. I try to help as much as possible

Just to let you know pattern keeper is a 1 off payment
Very good and thorough tutorial.

Very very helpful thank you
How would u be able to tell how many strings one needs or if its half stitch verses cross or back stitch

@@KathleenTwardy you’re welcome. I’ve had issues too with trying to load a pdf on a kindle from another device. I would just do the most simple thing.
Excellent and up-to-date!
How it call your item ? an Ipad ? a Tablet ?
Tablet. This is an Amazon Fire Kindle.
@@SassyStaci ok thanks. I didn't knew. 🥰
May sound weird question are all the pdf that does the symbols sheet. Is that always 2 sheet
Im sorry but I don’t understand your question. If there are any viewers who know how to answer this, you can answer. I’m sorry. 😞
@@SassyStaci I have added a chart and my key is on the last page and pk don't pick the key up I have to manually put it in
I am wondering if it is because the key is at the back of chart or if it is just that it was not pk compatible

What tablet do you use?
This one is the cheapest kindle fire I could find. I was really buying it solely for the app because I use an apple on normal basis.
