I think you can buy a kit with replacement O rings. Or use silicon grease if they are not damaged. There is usually a chamber at one end that catches any small pieces of metal, and this should be cleaned out as well.

Derek I am understanding you can introduce Fernox F1 via this pot is that correct. Also you mention greasing the seal. Is there a specific grease as I know some greases and oils can cause rubber seals to break down due the harshness of them. Many thanks.
You can. The grease you get will say if it is ok for rubber. There are just so many.

What are your thoughts on getting your system flushed professionally, think it is power flushing.
It is the best way, unfortunately it is quite expensive.

We've had one of these for five years now, halfway through the ten year extended warranty the Vaillant boiler gets through having one fitted! Never had much muck on it but we did have a power clean through the pipes when the boiler was installed. Just out of interest (and without going back to read the instruction sheet that came with the Magna) since there are two isolation valves going in and out, why is it necessary to switch off the boiler first?
Just in case a valve lets by. Dont want scalding hands.
Those keys get lost by customers, or they break easily. Best to have a pair of car, oil filter pliers in your kit bag. Don't overtighten or you'll crush the o ring. They cost a small fortune to buy in as spares.

I was thinking of the belt type oil filter wrenches, should be less abusive on the housing.
Out of interest though do you happen to know the dimensions of the O-ring? If they're expensive I might be able to source one direct from China.
Good point. I have a strap wrench. Er, somewhere. The adjustable, metal wrenches extend to a reasonable range for diameters. The O ring seals don't have to be mega tight anyway. A little slight scratching should not really be an issue. It is a functional device after all, not a fashion item. @@loc4725

Does it matter if the magniclean is installed downstairs beside the boiler or upstairs in the cupboard near the hot water tank?

We've got one of those on our recently installed ATAG boiler; apparently it's a requirement for the 12 & 18 year warranties.
