    Tips by Dr. Berry:
    1. Make sure you're getting all your minerals and electrolytes
    2. Avocado for cravings (holds lots of potassium and magnesium, and good fats)
    3. Go for a walk 5-10 minutes (get away from an emotional stressful situation)
    4. Honour your sleep: Get enough sleep, and good sleep!
    5. Get more sunlight (just 5 minutes can be enough), and be more in nature
    6. Stevia and monk-fruit etc. (but wean yourself off this)
    7. Coffee with fat (butter or oil) satiates you! Not too much fat
    8. Go carnivore if your carb-cravings are persistent. Carb-cravings can be a gut-bacteria issue. Dr. Berry had occasional carb-cravings even years into keto (especially in the evening), and fixed it with carnivore. 2-4 week on carnivore will make the carb-loving bacteria in your gut pack-up and leave.
    9. Fat-bombs (can be sweetened in the beginning). A hack to fight evening cravings. Don't overdo them.
    10. A pinch of salt works magic (on the tongue, or in your drink)
    Tips from followers below:
    11. A shot of Apple cider vinegar will shock your system to the point of tears.....and whatever carb craving you had will vanish!
    12. 4-6 Green olives with pimentos, garlic stuffed or blue cheese...quickest savoury fat bomb that solves cravings 100% of the time!
    13. Coffee with a dot of cinnamon and a Tblsp. of heavy cream, I can overcome anything.
    14. I drink 1 cup of water mixed with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Helps for those just-before-bed cravings.
Best wishes to all, from Denmark

It’s so true, especially the analogy to cigarettes. I used to smoke a pack a day but I’ve been a non-smoker for over a year now. The first three days are the hardest & the same is true for carbs. Every now & then I’ll get a “taste” for a sugary soda or pizza, but I’ve used my experience with quitting smoking to help me through my carb cravings. A big tip is recognizing it as a craving & reminding yourself it will pass. Just keep yourself occupied somehow & deal with them one at a time.

I'm a 78 year old man and have been on Atkins for the last 25 years! I agree with you totally about the diet drinks helping you through the "rough spots". In some cases just a "sip" of diet drink will help you through the bad times. When I was working in a research lab for years people would frequently bring in donuts and worse. I found that at times like this having a low carb Atkins protein drink would save the day. My only problem with that was being addicted to the Atkins drinks. At least they were better than the donuts! I would work very long hours at this lab and the low carb drinks saved my life. I'm now off the Atkins drinks mostly but still enjoy a diet Pepsi which really helps keep my weight off and my cravings low. Keep up the great work.

I'm just about 3 months in, and most of my snack cravings have finally gone away, however, chips used to be my downfall before keto. Now I always keep parmesan crips in the pantry for when a chip craving comes. (only about once or twice a week now). However, WEIGH OUT INDIVIDUAL PORTIONS. It's so easy to overdo it on parmesan crisps! Thanks Dr. Berry!

I’m 60, in my fifth month of keto, having lost 38 pounds of weight and about 30 years of age since I started. Your videos give great advice that I really pay attention to and that is a valuable thing when there is so much snake oil being sold on the Internet. Thank you! Cheers Nick.

Another great video from Dr KB. I'm 4 months into Keto and lately have been suffering from bad 'carb cravings'. I realise this is a physiological issue and rather than resort to 'fat bombs' I've found that a teaspoon or two of butter (my butter of choice being Kerrygold) kicks those cravings to the kerb. I have decided to go 30 days carnivore because after many months of 'keto' research I'm persuaded that to help heal my gut issues - carnivore is key :)

I find staying hydrated really helps my cravings. I add salt to my water or if i don't have plans for avocado that day, I add Mio sport that has both salt and potassium, but I try not to use that as much as it has sweetener. It does help me drink more though! I find bulletproof coffee with 1tbsp butter and either 1tbsp MCT or coconut oil, and a little cream, cinnamon, a pinch of pink salt and a splash of vanilla, holds me for 9 hrs with zero cravings. It's delicious. My current crutch is whipped cream and 1/2 cup strawberries..after 8 months on keto I'm still getting to my goals but know I will need to cut a bit more fat eventually as I get closer to my GW. The more carbs and protein I have, the hungrier I am so I try to eat as wholefood as possible to simply avoid it. When I first started I used fat bombs as well but ate super high fat for a month to avoid my sweet tooth!

Berries are generally alright as far as carbs on a ketogenic diet go. The recommended best time to have berries or low carb fruit would be first thing in the morning or better yet, just before a workout. I don't rely on fruit every day though. Fruit sugar (fructose) gets stored in the liver unlike other carbs (glucose) so there's a greater likelihood for fruit sugar to end up being belly fat if unused.
I avoid any kind of cream in my butter coffee. No stevia either.
1 Tbsp ghee butter, 1 Tbsp organic virgin coconut oil, pinch of sea salt, pinch of cinnamon, pinch of dried rosemary herb all blended together with Arabica bean coffee.
Your own butter coffee brew looks pretty good by the way.
I also drink diluted Apple cider vinegar (with the mother) just before a meal. Improves nutrient absorption and prevents nasty blood sugar spikes post meal.

Doc's right, most the battle is mental. But there are times. Here's what I do. I have bought the Accu drink vitamins, minerals and electrolytes. Costco have these. You are not to use more than one pack a day. So I use 1/2 in the morning in the one liter bottle for soda stream add a little lemon juice, organic from Costco, helps cut foaming when you carbonate it. Let the gas out slowly, and I mean very slow until no more is venting, then unscrew and cap. I've made carbonate lemonade with Stevia this way, experiment, but remember the above caution or you and your walls will be wearing it. And the other half for lunch/dinner in my eating period. I internment fasting 16/8. Some times when I get home there's a little grumbling, so scramble up some eggs in grass fed butter, add some cheese and organic pepperoni/sausage. Doc's also right that some fat will kill graving also. In the end don't beat yourself up if you trip a little. You'll get to the point that the carbage out there will tast like crap. Gotta go, there's a Keto chocolate cream pie with coconut/almond flour crust in the freezer that needs gnawing on.😜 And.. Dropped another 2inches. Total to date from 330 to 240lb 52 inch down to 40inch. Heack I'll be cking to see that box of old jeans and uniform will fit soon....

I was totally fine with carb cravings, and made great progress on my weightloss (52 pounds in 8 months), but then those 95 degree heatwave hit us and suddenly I started craving watermelon. Like crazy. I resisted for some weeks by ignoring it, drinking more acv, having more berries, until I started to *dream* of fresh, juicy fruits.
What I Iearned: having “just a few carbs“ after months of good eating is like “having one single cigarette“ after months of not smoking. It doesn't work for me. The more fruit I ate the more fruit i craved. I got back to being constantly hungry, and my depression hit me again.
Now that I'm done hating myself I'm back to clean keto.

Thankfully I didn't stop the 1 pill because I noticed that my depression returned. I was back to getting into funks (they used to come every couple of months & last from 3 days to a couple of weeks). I was scared & confused because of the difference yet I was still in ketosis & still eating the same meals. After reading your comment I'm wondering if it's because I have allowed myself to cheat a little with complex carbs recently. I'm going to not "reward" myself like that and see how it goes.

I started Keto about two months ago. I lost almost thirty pounds. I didn't do any macro counts or anything. Then, for the past three weeks, I've returned to my sugar addiction. It worse than cigarettes or cocaine (stopped smoking in 2012 and cocaine in 1990)! It comes on late at night... like I can't go to sleep without something.
Last night, I went for a walk before bed. It kept me up for the next four hours and screwed up my sleep, but it took away the craving!
I wish I could see a doctor who would find out my deficiencies so I can get some semblance of normalcy and lose this other 100 pounds!

Katie, it's a little odd seeing my experience so similar to yours(including last name)except the cocaine. I gave up smoking long ago. Started Atkins for two weeks and went keto and I lost 30lbs and hit my target weight March 24 after starting Jan 1. No macro or calorie counting and no keto flu. Mojo tested good on ketones. Bounced around on trying to keep the weight off but around mid July I went berserk with sugar cravings in the evening. Gained 12 back and trying to do something about so I had been fasting some which cause a lot of water loss. For lack of answers I just finished a 72 hr fast tonight at 8pm and now I'm already paranoid about eating. Can't get my mind off peanut butter mixed with whipped cream even tho I ate some beef. Intend to try carnivore and hope that will work. I'm looking for answers. I'll try anything in hopes of cutting the cravings. Good luck to you.

HFCS sweetened Soda is basically poison for your liver. Probably better to never drink a real soda again, even if you have to switch completely to diet. Most sodas are sweetened with HFCS, and that stuff overworks your liver in the same way alcohol does. Your liver is the only organ that can process fructose. It mostly turns the stuff into fat, and that fat tends to stay in the liver. Fatty liver will give you all manner of problems. Soda sweetened with sucrose isn't as bad, but really, you don't need it. The empty calories will keep your insulin levels high, which will lead to obesity.

Great video. Really enjoying your channel. Something that works well for me is meta-cognition. Specifically a technique I've been using for a long time. I don't know if it has a proper name or not, I just stumbled upon it by accident. When you get a craving start telling yourself what you're thinking. "I am thinking, I want fast food. I am thinking I should mow the lawn. I am thinking I should buy a new lawn mower." Etc. Just mentally recite your thoughts as they pass. What happens is that as you acknowledge these thoughts, they will settle down. It puts you above the thought stream, so to speak, so you're not a slave to them. This only works if you do it consistently, though. The more you give in to that circuit in your brain that wants you to eat carbage, the stronger you make it. Sleep is great and most definitely a lot less anxious. Isn't it great not thinking about how much food you can have, what foods you can't have too much of, and when is the next meal, and why am I so HUNGRY? In keto, you have to avoid too many carbs, but I am seldom hungry. I don't dream about food, I don't spend the day waiting for my next feeding time because I am so hungry. I don't feel ashamed of myself every time I ear enough to become satiated. I feel so free and alive now! 2 1/2 months and down 34 lbs.

I went cold turkey on carbs when I started keto and have rarely wanted carbs since. That's a miracle since my diet was mostly carbs up to the day I started keto. I used to take a teaspoon or so of peanut butter, sometimes with unsweetened coconut, if I wanted something dessert-like (I guess that's my version of a fat bomb). I've been wanting cheese cake for months now and have the stuff in the house to make it, but never feel like doing the work to make it. I am using salt more than I did before, but mostly on meat and occasionally vegetables if they seem to be missing something. The one thing I have not been able to conquer yet is artificial sweetener in my coffee, though I have cut back by 50%.

I've done the carnivore leaning trick. I also keep pork rinds handy if I want a snack, and they're surprisingly filling. I crushed up a whole bag, and believe it or not, a few spoonfuls of that shuts my cravings right up. They have protein, collagen, and are very low in carbs. On the topic of sleep, I think it's about that time. As always Dr. Berry, you are a treat to listen to. I am grateful for your time and efforts to help new keto/ketovore folks like me.
