We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.
I personally own the aiwa exos 9 for a year and love it. I went to my local bestbuy and I tested the jbl boombox. I was impressed by the sound. Jbl boombox is way too pricey comparing to other speakers on the market with similar quality. After testing the jbl boombox, I think my aiwa exos 9 its louder and the bass is much powerful and punchy. The aiwa exos 9 Bass is so loud, It vibrates my entire apartment. Also the aiwa exos 9 has ajustable EQ setting and the battery is removable, meaning you add an extra spare of battery on the go in case you battery dies. Also you can add a remote control. I think the aiwa exos 9 offers more features for less price. No regrets after owning the aiwa exos 9.
I use my xtreme/charge 3 at outdoor skateparks and our indoor skatepark uses big jbl speakers. I would like a bit more volume but am hesitate on going bigger such as the boombox exos 9 or a tailgate speaker
I have had my Exos 9 for well over a year now and in my opinion it’s the best speaker for the money on the market by far... killer bass and great minds and highs!!
Soundwise Aiwa is definitely the winner here, the bass reaches lower, overall sound picture is more natural without JBL's strange boosted mid bass and treble. Harman Kardon is the second best in my mind. JBL is meant to be an outdoor speaker with its great battery life, waterproof design and power bank feature. A great speaker as well for its purpose.
Vito Gold technically speaking the Aiwa was by far the worst. It had covered mids, missing resolution in the treble and off sounding bass kicks. The JBL and especially the Harman/Kardon are much better tuned. The Aiwa just has the advantage of being louder and more powerful on max. But of course I said technically speaking, if it's your personal opinion it's your opinion.
Technically speaking JBL´s tuning is extremely unnatural for the human ear. As a listener I want to experience the whole range of sound frequencies without too much emphasis on any specific part. That's why Aiwa's equalizer is a fantastic feature because you can always determine your own tuning. JBL doesn´t allow a neutral sound picture since they tend to boost certain frequencies. As a listener I want to hear deep natural bass and not necessarily a punchy one. I have been listening to many speakers and I am very quality oriented, I think that soundwise Aiwa Exos 9 and Harman Kardon Go+Play still are among the best PORTABLE speakers available right now.
Vito Gold i wonder why he didnt answer :) totaly agree with you here! I think tonis aiwa is broken though mine has no coveres mids now treble problems. Actually the complete opposite its very bright especially with treble boosted
what's your preference between Boombox and Exos 9? IN PERSON I have heard the boombox, and whilst I'm a JBL fan I was very disappointed how harsh the treble is (basically speaking). For $450 I was hoping the JBL would be more balanced. I like the design and portability, don't care about waterproof etc though. I cannot hear an Exos 9 in person so I can't compare but theres no doubt about it, I can't bring myself to by the Boombox even previously loving JBL cuz of that awful treble range
Jbl sounds like a woman’s scream in the darkness of night, no one notices! The Harmon Kardon sounds class but not loud enough. The Aiwa sounds the best allrounder on my opinion.
With a little adjusting the hk would easily outperform the boombox. While the aiwa needs a little boost on the high end it's still way better than the other two. I would prefer the hk because it's more portable
Even though I disagree with you about the JBL, I thank you for this review. You set the sound evidence before us and allowed us to draw our own conclusions. Nicely done!
personally I feel the Harman feels like more of a refined sound, a more full sound as opposed to the bass/treble focus on the JBL. I would opt in for the Harmon as it has enough power for my use case and if I want to adjust it at all ill just use some EQ.

You're absolutely right about the "Van Morison" track. It did sound way better in Harman Kardon. It feels like as if you're listening to Van Morison live. Boombox, meh, the vocal output sounded like it's from a standard karaoke system. For versatility though, I'd definitely go with JBL. Too bad I can't own any of them (way too expensive for me). I'll just comfort myself with my Altec Lansing. LOL!
@speakertoni please realize that hk go play actually spreads sound 180 degrees (almost) whereas JBL boombox focuses on straight directional sound output which is why your "binaural" recording hears JBL as louder and clearer. I own both and the sound quality of hk is superior to jbl boombox anyday! It's not always about loudness, quality plays a huge role (in my books it does).
Abhijay Bani I don’t agree Binaural recordings are pretty close to the human ear so what you’re hearing is also what I was hearing in reality No matter if in the recording or in real life the JBL has more treble as it has a larger treble boost while the go play is almost flat in that area Additionally the go play spreads the sound to the sides more like you already mentioned which not only in the recording but also in real life doesn’t really help with treble details and is a bad idea IMO
the aiwa pushes out almost hifi sound at a rather low price and at an amazing volume (in my view- i might be a little bias towards aiwa) the main thing tho , that is simply killing the boombox is bassrange. the boombox is a typical hip hop / trap - party speaker at least thats what jbl tries to make it in my opinion. but 50HZ is a joke in the trap genre . its just no fun while the exos 9 gets down to amazingly deep 35hz (for a portable speaker amazing). This was also why i wanted a new speaker over my xtreme as it just angered me hearing bass roll of at already 70hz
Jan Landcorner I don’t know what your definition of HiFi is but the Aiwa isn’t even close. It doesn’t have a very strange tuning like we see from some other manufacturers but it’s also not very HiFi sounding. The treble is missing clarity, the mids are covered and the bass is a bit too hollow. Still, the Aiwa is a great sounding speaker but definitely not by far the best in this comparison. The JBL reaches down to 40hz which makes it very comparable to the Aiwa.
Speaker Toni then you might have a broken one . for me hifi means a flat frequency response with a percised clear sound signarure . kinda like the typical beyerdymamics
Speaker Toni Plesse also regard that you have to krank Volumen on your phone to max while controlling VOl. On your aiwa directly (as long as your using Android below v.7) that usually makes the aiwa sound like a thunderstorm (probably because of the amplifier)
That room treatment is stunning. Very well thought out. Nice mix of art and function. Maybe you should have brought the speakers forward of those side louvres though. Even the recording from further back was different from the louvers reflections. These all sound a bit brighter in here until you moved back. Then the JBL just punched through. That HK will always loose in the warm low midbass on certain tracks because of the single enclosure being used for 2 channels. That is just not where it's at for Hi-Fi. The JBL really shines in here though. The treble is smashing right off those side louvres though and several look directed to reflect right at you. The AIWA seems to take advantage of it's enclosure setup and driver size quite a bit. That is also it's downfall. Boomy and cheap in the end. I have a set of AIWA SX-811's and it's pretty much the same drivers, same enclosure and the same sound from 20 year old speakers. In the end.... I love pondering these facts. The JBL speakers are made by Harman Audio and so is the Harman Kardon Go+Play - www.harmanaudio.com And Samsung bought Harmon Audio - news.samsung.com/global/samsung-electronics-completes-acquisition-of-harman Things that make you go Hmmm...... So looking forward to what's coming!!! Thanks for the VID! PEACE
Brian David thank you first of all:) Yes, I noticed that acoustics massively changed when I moved back but that was the only way to record them at max in this video. I agree with your speaker rating for this comparison. Iam also trying to design my new room a bit like this one when it comes to acoustics so I might have the same great sound studio in some time:)
The Aiwa Is Way Better Dude Didn't Even Use The Eq On The Exos-9 I Use The Aiwa At Work With Hella Machines Going And You Can Clearly Hear The Music Way Over The Machines And My Supervisor Complained About How Loud The Speaker Was And The Bass Lol If You Want To Buy A Good Ass Speaker I Recommend The Aiwa Trust Me You Will Be Happy You Brought An Aiwa Don't Be Fooled By This Video
The JBL boombox has them all beat sound wise but price wise I would go with the Harman Kardon it looks more practical size wise and as far as portability.
Really good comparaison, that's a good choice to compore thoses 3 speakers. The harman go play sound really good, no comparaison. And she's louder enough and just have more consistence at maximum volume (and have an even louder volume when plugged in 220V)
If you want a decent and affordable music system for home, invest in a 2 Channel Bluetooth/Wifi Audio Receiver from Yamaha, Sony, Onkyo, Denon etc at a reasonable price and separately buy 2 sound boxes and maybe a stand alone equalizer. All of these are for taking it with you wherever you need to. Aiwa is the best here esp when it comes to Value for Money. But for home use they're not the most ideal.
Many would disagree but for me the boombox sounded BY FAR the cleanest and richest of sound. And when I compared the jbl to the Go+Play in the marked I got a lot richer sound performance from the jbl...
The HK has the most refined sound, most neutral of the lot with finesse the JBL could only dream of. The JBL is meant for mad bass, and thats what it does best
Which speaker here has the most powerful bass here, against a wall. Which causes the room to shake the most? I can clearly hear that Go Play has the best "normal" sound here, bing more neutral and close to earphones.
Buddy did you miss Peachtree deepblue 3 .. what is ur opinion on that.. i was kind of confusd btwn jbl n deepblue 3??please help me out..ma usage is limited to ma bedroom.. i prefer good response to all frequencies and a good sound image and clarity.. if u could please help me out??
PAUSE! That audiophile set-up is KILLER!! Wilson Audio WATT Puppys powered by Spectral is a audio system to "die for"!😱 OK. Undoubtedly, you have gotten my attention.👍
The Jbl boombox sounds rich and gives you the impression of being inside the proverbial music environment. On the other hand, the Aiwa Exos 9 sounds good, but give the impression of standing outside of the entrance of the music environment. Was the Aiwa equalizer tuned to be comparable to the Jbl boombox, or was it just out of the box? Thanks for your demo, I found it very helpful.
Does the JBL have an equalizer ?, if not not a fair comparison , between the two in my review research Aiwa comes out on top and cost less, I also like the fact you can link two together for one kick ass sound system for the money, just ordered my Aiwa ,with remote
JBL = harsh highs and rumbling lows. Mids nonexistent H/K = Much better mix than boombox but still lacking oomph Aiwa = extremely full sound with more oomph than H/K My money goes to Aiwa for the price to performance
Most people prefer the Aiwa over the JBL... But nobody keeps in mind the size of that thing.. the JBL is smaller and its embarrasing that being only 40 Watts its still louder. Imagine plugging it to a power source... Goodnight Aiwa.
Harman kardon sound more clear and probably a great amount of bass, my bmw e60 has a Harman kardon subwoofers and logic 7 surround sound and it sounds very good
Aiwa mids are emphasized here...while jbl more on the bass ang highs..i would prefer Aiwa if i am listening to pop ang classical songs but if i listen to rock and dance muskc i will pick up d jbl..,.for me both have clear sound elements...its just depend on ur EQ adjusmnts...
Lol I uploaded a video of the 4 inch drivers moving to some mellow type beat music and explained what I did and Aswin Fin completely coppied what I did 4 days after commenting on my video with some different music and the stupid "bass mode" activated. He seems to be on everyone's bad side and I see why.
Just a note, the Aiwa is the only speaker here with an equalizer. so you can adjust the sound to sound even better and to your liking. Aiwa is worth every penny. Just bought one after hearing all three + Sonos. Aiwa was the best.
I use my jbl speakers at the skatepark so they gotta be able to take punishment and the Awia is more of a casual outdoor/mobile speaker such as for backyard family gatherings
This is a good comparison, but there is a lot missing here. When putting speakers against each other you need to not only talk about the sound, you need to put their overall functions against each other. This may include bluetooth playing distance, waterproof functions, charge sharing, voice assistant integrations, and battery life
What you think about third speaker? I'm buying 2xJBLs or 2xAIWAs.. Most for children's parties.. And impress neighbors + Make peoples eye popout on the beach 😄😄😁
You really cant compare the aiwa to any of these two as the aiwa has a 5 equalizer which you can adjust to tune it to how you like it. ALSO the JBL HAS a lot Of DSP processing that they incorporated into it to make it sound the way it does.
To me the jbl sounds a little bit to harsh, I think it would fatigue me quite easily but I agree it does sound powerful but not in a way I personally like. I hear jbl and harman kardon are the same company??????
JBL Boombox is for heavy bass head people Harmon Kardon is for casual people to just listen to music In my opinion I’m a bass head and the Boombox is my best decision
Throw the aiwa in the pool and tell me which one is better. Aiwa definitely wins in sound quality but my buddy took his camping and the morning humidity ruined it after one night. Shame.
aiwa = natural sounding, jbl = bass spike and and a spike in the treble to add vocal clarity, which gives it more wow factor at first, but overall just makes music less enjoyable. like idk how you can possibly like it more the vocals sound harsh and way too in your face.
Great video Tony like always. Please fire up your uncle's system for a comparison of what a decent system sounds like. Might have to sell 2 of the 4 Awia's I have. I will say since I did the firmware update they have on their site the sound changed considerable for the worse. How do I know this? I kept 2 standard vs 2 upgraded and the nonfirmware boxes are much louder and offer much more punch. I bet they were blowing amps or something? I am sure you have the newer firmware version units and they do not sound the same. It's actually very annoying that they did this. Surprised it's not a topic of conversation regarding this product.
Big Jay there are many issues with Aiwas softwares and I really lost track of which one is best and which one's worst. Btw, I managed to record something of that system, so stay tuned;)
Who ever has a Jbl Boombox , please do this to unlock full potential Press ( bluetooth ) & ( + ) bouton for 10 sec ( until it shuts down ) Turn it back on & enjoy , thank me later 👍
Did what you suggested, but I noticed after I did that, now when I Tap on the multifunction button that plays or pauses Siri kicks in on my iPhone any idea how to fix that?
I am looking for a portable device, with high quality and power. Something like at the same range of Boombox. What would you suggest at the market today? Some options.
breno sousa the best sound quality comes from the Vifa Copenhagen If you want a party speaker the JBL Partybox 100 is a good choice And if you want something exactly like the boombox Id get the boombox 2:)
@@speakertoni2680 thanks a lot for your reply. The video was great and full of information. Regarding to sound bars for a living room? Which one up to USD700 with sub? Always with quality.
The Aiwa does not impress me at all, yes it might be a good speaker if you’re not a budget but with drivers those size it should be able to deliver a much more powerful sound, also the bigger baffle should make this more powerful as well. The Aiwa‘s tuning might be flatter and a little louder.... but when you look overall at both, the JBL wins since it is much more durable, much more portable, and way longer battery life. I have both and I’ve had to get my Aiwa fixed at least once a year since I travel a lot and take my speakers everywhere and my Boombox seems like it’s never gonna break.
1:02 I wouldn't quite choose it for NORMAL VOLUME listening. |>>| If you want a really LOUD speaker that sounds really nice and GOOD for PARTYS and on MAX VOLUME! THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU.. So, why is video longer then this phrase. That's all we need to know 😄😄🔊📢📣🎶

The Deep blue wasn't out at the time the video was recorded and I didn't get a chance to test it yet
I might order one in the future
Omg Aiwa is still around? I have a stereo from them. I used to like their sound. I had a car stereo head unit also.
They just came back. A company out of chicago bought them 😁
The EXO's 9 is amazing.
HK go+play kills them both^^
Aiwa is the winner. It has an equalizer to adjust the sound the way you like it.
If boombox had one I'd consider it cuz THAT TREBLE treatment is harsh (in person)
@@rjkral it really is, which makes it a deal breaker for me, i'd rather a slight veil than something that pierces my eardrums
1.aiwa
2.Harman kardon
3. Jbl
Harman sounds much better. JBL sounds brittle compared imo. Much smoother on the Harman.
PAUSE! That audiophile set-up is KILLER!! Wilson Audio WATT Puppys powered by Spectral is a audio system to "die for"!😱
OK.
The EQ was set to flat on the Aiwa Exos 9.
Does the JBL have an equalizer ?, if not not a fair comparison , between the two in my review research Aiwa comes out on top and cost less, I also like the fact you can link two together for one kick ass sound system for the money, just ordered my Aiwa ,with remote
bonjour. alors?maintenant que vous l
avez l aiwa exos9, Quel est votre ressentie?
who have better sound quality jbl boombox or Harman/Kardon Go+Play ?
Aiwa
JBL = harsh highs and rumbling lows. Mids nonexistent
H/K = Much better mix than boombox but still lacking oomph
Aiwa = extremely full sound with more oomph than H/K
My money goes to Aiwa for the price to performance
Most people prefer the Aiwa over the JBL... But nobody keeps in mind the size of that thing.. the JBL is smaller and its embarrasing that being only 40 Watts its still louder. Imagine plugging it to a power source... Goodnight Aiwa.
The boom box is 60 watts when plugged in
@@denzilsvilengatiyn1060yeah its 60 watts thats why i said goodnight aiwa because plugged in would be even louder lol
The Aiwa is 200 watts with no distortion. Goodnight 60 watts plugged in Boombox. I have had both and the Exos 9 is louder.
JBL killed it on vocals, easy. Ease the treble a little and its a winner.
Harman kardon sound more clear and probably a great amount of bass, my bmw e60 has a Harman kardon subwoofers and logic 7 surround sound and it sounds very good
You should have connected the HK GoPlay to AC to make it 100Watts full power against the battery powered boombox
Myk TA my go play, even plugged in sounds pretty weak for 100 watts. Sounds like maybe 50 tops
Aiwa hands down!
Personal preference is what its all about , for a tough carry anywhere the JBL sounded better to me and my needs and taste !
Nick _ flicks yup...
I think the aiwa is the best for this price
Just a note, the Aiwa is the only speaker here with an equalizer. so you can adjust the sound to sound even better and to your liking. Aiwa is worth every penny. Just bought one after hearing all three + Sonos. Aiwa was the best.
I use my jbl speakers at the skatepark so they gotta be able to take punishment and the Awia is more of a casual outdoor/mobile speaker such as for backyard family gatherings
This is a good comparison, but there is a lot missing here. When putting speakers against each other you need to not only talk about the sound, you need to put their overall functions against each other. This may include bluetooth playing distance, waterproof functions, charge sharing, voice assistant integrations, and battery life
JBL has more of a mild V Shaped Sound. H/K is more neutral.
H/K isn't very neutral at all, i've owned it, its quite selective in what sounds good on it.
What you think about third speaker? I'm buying 2xJBLs or 2xAIWAs..
Most for children's parties..
And impress neighbors + Make peoples eye popout on the beach 😄😄😁
I appreciate the review but it’s a little concerning the Exos 9 was set on flat EQ. It adds bias from the very start.
lol
WOW JBL sound is nice loud , i think also that JBL Boombox is a little bit better
Don't think so much it isn't your strongest trait 😊
which is better jbl or aiwa to buy it
I’m listening it on HK go play
When these 3 are mixed, its called Harman Kardon Exos Boombox 😂
Harmon kardon and jbl are the SAME company.
John Braucher BMW and a Mini Cooper are also from the same company, not the same cars.
harmon owns jbl but they operate independently from each other.
So? No one said they were not.
Aiwa wins! AND it's a whole lot cheaper.
And an EQ...you set the Aiwa to a non optimal setting...and it still sounded better...The JBL hurt my ears.
@@patriot5891 yes
what song 9:30 ? pls
ADDENDUM-JBL Boombox is more dynamic, involving and musical than the Awia Expos 9. Okay, I've said it.
Now where's the sale?😁
Rubbish
What is that song playing at the very start of the video
Aiwa is still a winner.
You really cant compare the aiwa to any of these two as the aiwa has a 5 equalizer which you can adjust to tune it to how you like it. ALSO the JBL HAS a lot Of DSP processing that they incorporated into it to make it sound the way it does.
The jbl has louder bass, but as for treble & highs the other speakers sound better
The ultimate battle right now!
Harman kardon always first.
What name of the background music on the start??? It gives me Nostalgia pls TIA
Christian Paulo its a song from SoundCloud
It’s called Thinking Cap by DonProducci
We got a jbl fan boy here
To me the jbl sounds a little bit to harsh, I think it would fatigue me quite easily but I agree it does sound powerful but not in a way I personally like. I hear jbl and harman kardon are the same company??????
JBL Boombox is for heavy bass head people
Harmon Kardon is for casual people to just listen to music
In my opinion I’m a bass head and the Boombox is my best decision
Boombox is marketed towards dark skinned homosexuals
Throw the aiwa in the pool and tell me which one is better. Aiwa definitely wins in sound quality but my buddy took his camping and the morning humidity ruined it after one night. Shame.
Aiwa Exos 9 is a beast.
what is your verdict about the jbl boombox, is it worth what it costs? Do you think there is something better for that price?
HK Go+Play has a better sound stage
it has a spike in the treble which gives the illusion of space/sound stage.
Thanks. Great review.
Thanks for the amazing video
aiwa = natural sounding, jbl = bass spike and and a spike in the treble to add vocal clarity, which gives it more wow factor at first, but overall just makes music less enjoyable. like idk how you can possibly like it more the vocals sound harsh and way too in your face.
Wonder what the Xtreme 2 will be like compared to the original and the boombox
Speaker Toni 😎😁
i have my boombox 1 jbl and i love it soooo much
Someone wants to swap my go play vs his Aiwa.... I'm happy with the go play but I want loudness.. What should I do
Yeah definitely get the Aiwa it’s so loud, I’m the same I always want loud speakers so I bought 2 Aiwa’s and they’re so loud and sound amazing
Marijan Ciceran still louder.
Did anyone here try to get parts or even customer service
from Aiwa?
1° Exos 9, 2° JBL, 3° HK go, this Is only my opinion.
I love the powerful bass of the JBL BOOMBOX... i bought one
That jbl boombox is a far long way better then anyone of them...its the best
Who ever has a Jbl Boombox , please do this to unlock full potential
Press ( bluetooth ) & ( + ) bouton for 10 sec ( until it shuts down )
Turn it back on & enjoy , thank me later 👍
What does that do?
stasaf it unlocks the internal amp to produce more clean bass & stronger overall performance !
Try it & you will thank me later !
Nice, doing it once is just enough? Or every single time?
stasaf i re do it every couple of times just to be sure lol
Did what you suggested, but I noticed after I did that, now when I Tap on the multifunction button that plays or pauses Siri kicks in on my iPhone any idea how to fix that?
Heyyy what’s the name of the second song ? 😁
In your opinion which are the 5 best Bluetooth speakers ?
Good fair comparison. Opinions spot on.
Thank you:)
Aiwa destroyed the competition.
I am looking for a portable device, with high quality and power. Something like at the same range of Boombox. What would you suggest at the market today? Some options.
breno sousa the best sound quality comes from the Vifa Copenhagen
If you want a party speaker the JBL Partybox 100 is a good choice
And if you want something exactly like the boombox Id get the boombox 2:)
@@speakertoni2680 thanks a lot for your reply. The video was great and full of information. Regarding to sound bars for a living room? Which one up to USD700 with sub? Always with quality.
@@brenosousa1137 jbl bar 5.1. The one with the detacheble rear speakers. Bass 35hz and 510 watt.
Aiwa on the floor really?
Aiwa more pleasing to the ear jbl sounds clear but too boosted the aiwa is softer but more pleasant
Next hk go play vs jbl xtreme 2
Please
No contest,the hk definitely wims
That's all we need to know 😄😄🔊📢📣🎶
I like the sound of the aiwa thr bass is Halo just right it's not ruining the mids
