As a person that has replayed the game 15 times I can say that I was upset when in season 1 and 2 they seemingly made the devil's character a joke. But in this season he was able to strike a feeling of dread in me the same way he did in the game.
I personally love the approach they’re going for with the devil, and can see the team easily improving the character. The line between serious and goofy he treads is something I really enjoy.
that disturbing kill shows how comfortable with torture the devil truly is. it was quite unexpected. i have seen the scariets horror movies. and knowing how cute this cartoon can be. it hits equaly as hard. lol
It's pretty funny, you know? On the one hand, it is quite funny and pleasant to see the devil, but on the other hand, you cannot forget that he is the one who is in charge of torturing the souls of hell. and that if he wanted to and got serious he could easily bring hell to the world. luckily there are some cups that keep him busy.
It's the other way around. As all comments are saying, the show wants you to keep guessing and to take him for a silly clown: if he did this all the time we would take him 100% serious and the happy-go-lucky tone of the show would be lost, while not having these at all would rob it of its adult comedy undertones. By having the Devil be terrifying only rarely, the show keeps you feeling he's just a silly goober, so when he snaps back into who he really is we all get shocked because we don't expect it, like a huge dog that's well educated and cute and nice to people when some small animal tries to invade his territory so you get a bloody reminder that he can bite your hand off
Stickler is heartless. He hasn't show any sign of emotions like terror , pity or disgust, when Miss Chalice was slowly crumbling to ash and bones by The Devil's black skull spell. 👿☠

That is completely more terrifying like Charlie's Nightmare when Ms. Chalice skull shattered on the floor and it even scared Henchmen more than the people at home seeing this on tv.

Cuphead actually being taught some sense in the S1 finale, Mugman casually saying his brother going to hell, and Chalice being outright murdered with no censorship at all (TWICE), and The Devil proving himself to be the god of all evil. All while being my favorite comfort show :)

As funny and stupid, the Devil can be in Cuphead, I like how the show will sometimes remind you that he is still the Devil and he a cold hearted threat when he wants to be.
The show creators obviously wanted to prove in this grand finale that the Devil, after all the silliness we have seen him in, has this kind of dark, destructive power; At the end of this season, the audience feels the three friends are actually up against extremely high stakes like never before.

hope they make a season 4 in 2023 because of the casino story and all
I think because the Devil played a bigger role. Much more episodes focused on him, and there were less filler episodes in between.

As funny and stupid, the Devil can be in Cuphead, I like how the show will sometimes remind you that he is still the Devil and he a cold hearted threat when he wants to be.

The show creators obviously wanted to prove in this grand finale that the Devil, after all the silliness we have seen him in, has this kind of dark, destructive power; At the end of this season, the audience feels the three friends are actually up against extremely high stakes like never before.

The devil: well then! I guess it's time to get your soul!!! *grabs cuphead's soul*
Mugman: CUPHEAD!!!

I can’t be the only one who thought this scene reminded me of Spear’s nightmare in Primal: Plague of Madness.
She's already dead. He just reminded her of that.
Distractions really don't work that well on the Devil when he's immortal and sorta owns your soul.
