    Very good. For the first time I considered handing in my guitar for a service like this one. Only I haven't played for 12 years - and have no money to spare. Addiction took over my life again 12 years ago, I am sorry to say.

    I had the same buzz on the high E strings of the 40 year old ovation 12 string and it does drive you nuts. Got so riled up that I took off the strings then took the flat bar with fine sand paper and evened those frets. It did the job and fixed that buzz.

    Excellent Jerry, that saddle makes such a difference to the tone, also, I would assume it being properly glued adds to the solidity giving

    I also had a buzz coming from the bridge area. I took the strings off and felt around in there. There was a twist wire that I guess fender used to secure the wiring, which had become loose. Twisted it snug and buzz is gone!

    Jerry, I have not seen any body ask if the method of removing a bridge is the same with different glues? Hide glue verses Titebond or even epoxy? Heat is the preferred method, but what happens if the heat and or steam does not work easily? Thank you for these great videos? Hope you get caught up with your projects and I am looking forward the the mandolin build! Thankz

    • @RosaStringWorks
      @RosaStringWorks 6 років тому

      Audio Tech Labs that's actually a very good question. I wish I had a very good answer. Actually all I ever use heat. But heat does not really work much on epoxy. The only saving grace I've had on epoxy is it generally speaking it's brittle and it's already busted loose on its own. Thanks for watching

    I have the very same buzz problem also with my "B" string only. It's a 5 year old Taylor 214ce DLX. The bridge is perfectly fine (no gaps under the bridge) and I changed out the saddle to a taller saddle I ordered from Taylor to see if raising the height would make a difference. It did not. Now the action is too high for what I like and the buzz is still there on the the open B string and on the first few frets I hear it. Once I get past the fourth fret, no more buzz. It can't be the the frets because it buzzes even when I play the B string open. It can't be the saddle, because I changed it already. It could be the nut, but I highly doubt it. All the other strings no buzz. I have not yet inspected the inside to see if any thing is loose like wires, so there's still that, but this is really strange to me. This is driving me crazy!

    Actually after repairing i think there is still a little bit buzz, or "strange sitar-like noise". High frequency. I think the condition becomes better because of the new saddle. I hope I can fix this. My guitar has similar problem.

    Jerry I have a pal who uses black locust (we used to make fence posts out of it) for bridges and fretboards. I've never tried it but it too is hard as a rock (and won't rot in the ground). Ever tried it?

    • @RosaStringWorks
      @RosaStringWorks 6 років тому

      +Tioga Fretworks we had tons of black locust here and have dozed almost all of it away due to the thorns. It's softer than Osage orange. I would say virtually half as hard. But it's still a hardwood and it is a great wood for lots of things. I use it for fence post as well. Burning all the firewood I burn, I've also learned that it is some of the best firewood you can get. It actually burns hotter than just about anything. If it wasn't for all the Thorns, I would actually try to grow it. But I've had so many flat tires from that stuff that I can't wait to get rid of all of it. Thank you for watching.

    That Osage orange is some hard stuff.some people call it bodock in Arkansas. We used it at times to make duck calls.im wondering how it would work as a fret board.it does that absorb much moisture. They also make long bows out of it.

    • @williamcastleberry7338
      @williamcastleberry7338 6 років тому

      They also used to make single trees and double trees. They would work the wood while it was still green. After it seasons out it is almost impossible to work

      Hi Jerry, any thoughts on how to fix a buzz coming from inside the acoustic body? To me, it sounds like the bracing inside is just loose enough to buzz, and this only developed (at least to my attention) within the last few weeks. Generally I take great care of the guitar, no major bumps or anything like that, and I think it might be resolved with humidity. I would love your expert input if you have any to offer. 😇

    Your helpful video got me thinking.
    My Epiphones bone saddle sits on top of a wire pick up.
    Do I give up on sound transference by it not making good bone to bridge contact?
    It sounds fine with a jack plugged in. Could it sound better when not plugged in if I eliminated the piezo wire pickup?

    At last!--Mr. Rosa, you've answered a question I've had rattlin' around in my noggin for 28 years, ever since my move to Kansas. And that question is whether or not Osage Orange would make a good wood for musical instruments, due to its hardness. Have you ever used that wood for finger boards, or any other part of a guitar, beyond what you've shown here? Thank you for some very interesting videos. (a new subscriber)

    • @RosaStringWorks
      @RosaStringWorks 6 років тому

      +agwbcfjc2 thanks for subscribing. Yes Osage orange is a fine wood for many applications. You could use it for fretboards you could also use it for back and sides. It would be a little bit heavy for a neck but it could be done. Thanks for taking a look.

    Did it occur to you that it was the nut slot or the nut action ?
    I think those really large bridge saddles are great the ones u see on 60’s Gibson’s if you think about it they are more intonateable due there width.

    Sparks? Wow that is a hard wood!!! Could the buzz come from the loose Bridge?

    • @RosaStringWorks
      @RosaStringWorks 6 років тому

      +Steven Miller yes sir it is definitely hard wood. And yes the buzz probably did come from the fact that the bridge was pulled up and the string was buzzing off of the saddle rather than sitting flat on the saddle. Thanks for watching.

  • @mitchellhubbard1882

    Since you used Osage Orange for the bridge for its hardness, I wonder how ironwood would sound? It is beautiful and can be polished to a rich luster. Would it sound good though?

    • @RosaStringWorks
      @RosaStringWorks 4 роки тому +2

      It would probably be fine. It has to be quartersawn. Meaning that the grain runs lengthwise and vertical down through the piece when viewed from the top.

I even tried to see the steel type when you were flipping the blade( to no avail) But whatever, I have never seen a blade with the hook for skinning. I've seen similar but not quite that configuration. I thought the weight of the wood might make the knife handle differently but apparently it may suit you better for hunting.
