      I have never tried. but I love the beauty

      Same. I've managed a couple of forge welds, but that's still on the list of future projects.

    How well does the clay forging steel? I'm wondering if you could use this method to experiment with damascus patterns then transfer concepts to steel.

      A lot of master blacksmiths will have their apprentice use clay to go through the steps of forging anything and everything

      Clay can have consistency similar to heated metal, but the advantage for practice is you don't have to heat it or worry about it cooling and hardening as you work it, so it's an excellent practice material.
