I have five copies of the movie, several tshirts, identification badges, a coffee mug, pins, a poster and various Buckaroo Banzai memorabilia. To this day as I turn 60 (I saw this at 21) it takes me back to a simpler time before so much technology. I am hoping to go to an upcoming Comic-con and get a photo with Peter Weller (Buckaroo Banzai). My first action hero before there was even a term for men of action. This movie is still after 39 years my favorite film of all time. It was no surprise that this reached cult status. No matter where you go there you are. This is an update, I have a genuine spot on replica of the famed Oscillation Overthruster. In my opinion the holy grail of prop replicas.
Buckaroo Banzai was basically ‘New Wave Doc Savage’…nowadays, he’s equal parts Doc Savage, Adam Ant, and Adam Savage…an innovator without ego; a creative, kind and adventurous soul…I dig this…
I worked a a customer service job when and had this frequent visitor that looked exactly like Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons. First time I ever asked him for a movie to watch he recommended Buckaroo Bonzai. It’s now one of my favourite movies of all time and I’ll never forget the exact moment we talked about it. Good times! I wish there was a sequel too.
9:23 this part in the movie really stood out to me. They were able to preserve his natural and distinct face shape and the way his eyes tilted down at the outer corners. Amazing makeup.
I have no less than 5 copies of the movie on DVD, two tshirts, a movie poster, a fridge magnet, several cosplay identification badges, quite a few pins, a copy of the Marvel comic book adaptation and the topper is a YoYodyne Propulsion Systems coffee mug. To this day the movie remains my favorite of all time. I might attend a Comic-con soon and get a pic with Buckaroo Banzai (Peter Weller). Buckaroo Banzai was my first real action hero even before they were called that. Peter Weller in an interview once said Buckaroo isn't a superhero and is made better by the people he surrounds himself with. Those hard rockin' Hong Kong Cavaliers, Buckaroos most trusted inner circle. Turning 60 this year reminds me that next year the movie celebrates its fortieth anniversary. I even have my eye on an Oscillation Overthruster. Update: I actually now have a screen accurate Oscillation Overthruster
when i was 12 i saw the film for the 1st time and i was hooked on the Universe... all the characters are awesome and the story was just incredible.... im 46 now and if anything i appreciate the film and the story it tells even more than i did as a Kid.... it was of its time and that isnt a bad thing at all!
I barely remember the commercials for the film, it's release came and went. It looked, interesting. Watched it when it premiered on HBO. It wasn't immediately funny, but it was totally confident in the story it was telling. And it was a compelling story. I didn't want to look away. And when it ended I immediately wanted to watch it again! I knew the film had so much detail in it that it required multiple viewings. Watched it so many times that almost every line became quotable! _"I'm sure that,_ *_IN THE MISERABLE ANNALS OF THE EARTH.."_*
I think its funny how this feature supposedly exposes secrets and clarifies the 8th Dimension plot when, in fact, it only serves to maintain the obfuscation. Which is absolutely intentional. 😉
It feels like someone finally made a movie based on a long running and beloved comic book series. Or maybe this is a movie based on it. It feels like they mashed up several episodes of a mini series. This is where they got the idea for League of extraordinary gentleman. Or it's like they got the favorite characters from some small indy publisher like Eclipse comics and made their own quirky justice league out of them.
With all the AI and deepfake available, especially to Hollywood they need to make the sequel and deepfake the actors to their age in 1985. Im not usually in favor of that stuff but in this case GO FOR IT! Pay the actors the rate they would have gotten in the day adjusted for inflation- make it happen!
I saw it the first week it came out. Have watched it many times since! I was dissapointed the next film wasn't made. Even though he wasn't a superhero, this film makes most every other superhero film look like crap!
I kinda sorta liked it when it came out I think it was badly edited the quality was weird remastered and edited better would be cool also too it’s a kids comic book in design me and another guy in my entire high school actually even watched it let alone heard of it

I put this character right up there with Doc Savage and Remo Williams, and it's a shame that only one movie was made.

"New Wave Doc Savage," I like that. That's dead on :)
It was a fun movie to watch. My EX wife hated it. Sorry there was no sequel. Probably because just me and 31 people actually liked the first movie.
Funny I loved this movie. Also my ex wife hated it. Lol.
One reason they are an EX
32 actually

Excellent job 👏 👍 👌 🙌
Fucking greatest american hero
I own this movie on VHS and DVD and love it!
The amount of design, engineering and manpower that went into what is essentially a delightfully absurd souffle...

At least this movie got a solid mention in the movie adaptation of Ready Player One.
The Goldbergs too

" We have Open the WINDOW !! " 😭😭😭
Wish there was a sequel to the movie
Me too!
same! 😊
Remember the COMIC BOOKS folks :)
They're actually OUT there
Even how they proudly walked through the crowd to proform makes my stomach hurt 😭😭
I'm pretty sure we're not getting a sequel, lol...
But I wish there had been one when it could have been done!
名前。地下足袋...。どこからつっこんでいいのか分からない。でも、大好きな作品。
you are entirely welcome my Friend... 😊
Most misunderstood and underrated movie ever.

American Dr. Who.
Agreed
Actually, Doc Savage.
If I win a billion dollars in the Powerball, I'm making a sequel.
do it! 👍🏽👍🏽
My favorite docudrama.

What’s Buckeroo Banzai about?
Fun
Pure and Simple from the 8th Dimension

Was there ever a comic? Seems like a good way to explore plots for a new movie.
There sure is!! Do a search for Dark Horse Comics
The Return of Buckaroo Banzai
Stop waiting for permission. Buckaroo would just get it done
absolutely mate! 👍🏽👍🏽
This movie is so funny it doesn't give you time to laugh 🥵
no easter eggs here.......
Where's the sequel? God damnit.
No. It is not from the eighth dimension.
I saw it the first week it came out. Have watched it many times since! I was dissapointed the next film wasn't made. Even though he wasn't a superhero, this film makes most every other superhero film look like crap!
I had never heard of this film before till kart month.
There's a plot?
