- Welcome to the amazing life of Darren Jew: underwater nature photographer.
Darren Jew has photographed the planet's landscapes and wildlife from Antarctica to Zambia over his incredible 30-year photography career - on mountain peaks, desert plains and beneath the ocean's surface.
Darren's particular passion for photographing whales brings him back to Tonga year after year, where Untitled Filmworks' Abraham Joffe joined him in 2013 to capture his journey.
Darren shoots on the Canon EOS 1DX, with lenses EF16-35f2.8LII and EF 8-15mm f4L fisheye, plus Nauticam underwater housings.
Video shot on:-
Canon EOS 1DC Cameras in 4K resolution.
Canon lenses 14mm 2.8 L, 16-35mm 2.8 L II, 24mm 1.4 L, 24-70mm 2.8 L II and 70-200mm 2.8 L II.

Wow Darren, the images you have captured are just stunning and to be swimming with these magnificent creature of the deep would be a profound experience. I love scuba diving and I'm tearing up sitting here in front of my PC watching your video and feeling emotions welling up inside me because I know it has to be one of the experiences that I must tick off my bucket list before I leave this earth. Awesome stuff mate. This is a long way from the stuff we used to shoot during the 'Faces & Places photography workshops in the early 90's. I love your passion. It really resonates within me.
Thank you so much! This man is my hero and will be for a long time. This is my dream job simply because it combines my two passions in one, the ocean is an amazing place it's like a whole other world waiting to be explored and when I am in the ocean there is no other feeling like it no mater what I am doing wether it's, surfing, body boarding, snorkeling, swimming or taking photos of the ocean you have to give it respect simply because of its power and the unknown of what's out there. I find it so hard to believe the we can map the moon by square centimeters but still can not map our oceans because of the depths we can not dive to and the constant movement and change of the sea floor.
Thank you canon for showing me the inside of the whole photograph world, as a 16 year old you have really opened my eyes to what the industry has to offer thank you so much for that!
This is what I wanna do when I finally get out of highschool. This is literally my dream, photography has been a big part of my life since I was little because my mom was an amazing one, but growing up I realized I didn't like taking pictures of people it's so boring, I've been obsessed with the ocean and photographing it for a long time. I just wish people would realize it's beauty and treat it better
I spent a week swimming with whales in 2008. I only had a cheap point and shoot waterproof Olympus, but still got some amazing photos. The calves are so curious they'd swim right up to me. Mama would always be below with a watchful eye on her curious child swimming among us doofus humans.

He's living the photographic life - good to see part of it. Thanks for the longer video, but I could have watched more. Much much more :)
now you can watch Tales By Light series on Netflix
first few frames were just goosebump-y. truly masterful shot.
The fisheye shot at 2:45 hit me like a whale fin.

This was so beautiful and inspiring! Thanks you for sharing your story. :)
Such an enchanting video Darren.
Love this to bits. In Sri Lanka there are Blue Whale pods. I saw them in 2014 among thousands of spinner Dolphins. I am pretty sure you would love to capture both spices.
I cannot understand why do not you use air tanks. You can stay submerged much longer. Thank you for sharing. :)

Amazing!!!!
Hello,
People i got a question.
my parents don't support me in being a Photographer so i am now doing a
study what i don`t like.
my parents think that i never will be a great photographer so how can i
show them that photography is what i like and is my dream of and that tells me the story of this video it gives me a boost of being what i like.
so please can somebody help me.
Actions speak louder than words. Grab a camera and create something awesome. Show your parents your work and show your parents what inspires you. You can't expect them to understand until you show them. Prove them wrong, see it as a challenge.
You don't have to change your parents' view. Adults are blind in some meaning.
Just do what you think right, but i recommend you to not quit studying, you can get diploma anyway and knowledge can be useful in further life.
Spend all your free time doing what you like.
Hope it's not too late
lovely
Amazing
Is there any way that i can contact you and talk to you about a career in this?
Great
🖤🖤🖤✨✨
I'm guessing that he is using a 8-15mm canon fisheye lens. But if someone knows exactly what lens he is using it would be great if you could just let me know...
+Will Zinterhofer Yes he is, at 1:11 he has it at 8mm on a fullframe body
