It's an earworm! Like others have said, the movie is a must-see! The Graduate was *AMAZING*
Although I love your version: oh oh oh ay ay ay, what they say is Hey six times lol!
In addition to The Graduate movie and music, you should hear America by them. The lyrics tell a simple story. Underrated song. The Boxer if you haven't heard it. Concert in Central Park.

Grammys were run by old people who did not understand or like rock music. By 1968, with rock dominating all the charts, the old fogies had to relent and start letting rock performers be nominated and the crooner era of the Grammys was officially over. What was surprising was that Mrs. Robinson beat the Beatles Hey Jude, but the softer Mrs. Robinson was probably more palatable to the older members.

Advice to Dustin Hoffman: "Just one word -- plastics." You must watch "The Graduate" and meet Mrs. Robinson yourself. This was a great movie, and this was a great song with great vocals and great instrumental talent. I saw it in its first run back in the 60s, and Wow, it was a hit. I still smile when I remember Mrs. Robinson taking off her shoes ....

There was a change to UK cinema ratings in 1970 just after the Graduate came out. It would have been X rated ( adults =18+ only) but the new AA ratings let 14 year olds in to see it and of course we went the first chance we got.
In those days it took literally years for new released films to arrive in our small town's picture house. Probably some of it went over our early teenage heads but it was an enjoyable film and the soundtrack was great.

Love this song! I've always thought it was about the loss of the nation's innocence in the late 60s--a 50s housewife in rehab, no good political leadership and an absence of heroes to look up to. There was a cover of it by the Lemonheads in the 90s (?) but they stayed pretty true to the original sound.

I was a preteen when this came out. My bestie & I watched The Graduate - not sure how we got away with that. Our parents would NOT have approved! Lol! I guess they just didn't know. They were pretty clueless to what movies & music was out. We saw lots of movies that we were way too young to see. Ha! Rocky Horror, The Wall, Monty Python, Tommy, etc. And we always watched Saturday Night Live (the first-& best group!) & bought comedy albums by Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, etc. BEST YEARS OF MY LIFE!!! 😂

Richie Unterberger described them as "the most successful folk-rock duo of the 1960s" and one of the most popular artists from the decade. They are among the best-selling music artists, having sold more than 100 million records worldwide. They were ranked 40th on Rolling Stone's 2010 list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" and third on its list of the greatest duos.

Every song by Simon and Garfunkel is a work of art. You should review the movie 'The Graduate'. It is funny, shocking (well for the '60s) with great acting and story line. This song is more than a little ironic. I never realized this album was a life cycle story and a 'concept album'. There’s a reason they use to call them the “Granny” awards. First rock song to win…Now you know. Sinatra hated rock music so much he left his label and started a new one. To give the other side a fair shake, there were a lot fewer Grammy awards back in those days. Think about all the great rock records especially in 1967 that didn’t win! However the Beatles did win Album of the Year in 1967. The only time they ever won that award.

You really can't go wrong with Simon and Garfunkle.. Many greats like CECILIA, I AM A ROCK, etc. Absolutely so not miss SCARBOROUGH FAIR. So unique. It is actually 2 songs which the guys each sing one of the songs at the same time, lines alternating. It is to show the contrast, one song is about a lost love that he wants to find again, the other is about the horrors of war.

The song was originally supposed to be "Mrs. Roosevelt" and be about Eleanor Roosevelt. But Mike Nichols wanted Simon to do the music for his film, "The Graduate" which had Mrs. Robinson as a main character, and this was the only song he had available at that point. Nichols had him change it. And I could have sworn I remembered Joe DiMaggio trying to sue over the use of his name, but I must have imagined that -- all I can find now is that Simon later claimed he wasn't even a Joe DiMaggio fan, as DiMaggio was his father's generation, and he really wanted to use Mickey Mantle, but it didn't have the right number of syllables. When he met DiMaggio and Joe wanted to know why the song asked where he had gone -- he was doing commercials for Mr. Coffee at that time, and said to Simon, "I'm right here!" -- Simon explained he was holding him up as an example of past heroes, which the country was sorely lacking at that point.
Now that you're asking "Who is Eleanor Roosevelt?" "Who is Mike Nichols?" "Who is Joe DiMaggio?" and "Who is Mickey Mantle?" I invite you to use Google.

Not surprising that the Grammy's waited almost 2 decades to award Record of the Year to a Rock song. They were never at the forefront of music, despite being devoted to music. It took forever for them to award the first Record of the Year to a Rap/ Hip Hop song "This Is America" in 2019. New Wave, the sound of the 80s, barely had a song nominated and never had a song awarded Record of the Year.
Paul Simon's "Graceland" winning Record of the Year in 1988 was a travesty. It peaked at #81 on the charts! Nevertheless, it beat U2's "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" that year.
It took the Academy Awards decades before it awarded Best Picture to a Horror (1991), Fantasy (2003), Sci Fi (2022) movie.

Mrs. Robinson was played by Anne Bancroft. The character seduces her daughter's boyfriend, played by Dustin Hoffman. Hoffman decides he likes the daughter better and tries to win her back. It's a lot of fun. Famous ambiguous ending. As for hard rock, yeah, this was about as hard as Simon got at this time. For his first solo record, he brought in some reggae and other more interesting sonic elements.

Probably my least favorite S&G song. Probably because 1) I’ve heard it waaay too many times snd 2) it was written specifically for the movie so it didn’t have the same feel to me of a song that would normally be on an album of theirs. The lyrics weren’t as poetic or powerful as usual. I mean….Coo-Coo Catchoo? Please.
