I'm only in the market for a baby dump trailer, and will never need a giant gooseneck trailer. As a former design engineer and current patent professional, I enjoyed hearing about your journey to creating a new design. Back in the 90s, I was part of a team that did something similar for food processing equipment - we asked "what if," and instead of designing with stock steel shapes, we designed our own custom structural members. We even designed and built our own custom conveyor chain. Of course, then we had to figure out how to make the parts and assemble them, but in the end, we had a new machine with an innovative design.

I love it that you went into depth on the reasoning and benefits of your new engineered beams. I’d like to see y’all do the same for your powder coating. I understand with prep and cure times powder coating is far more efficient and economical compared to good paint done right. But I have NEVER once said a good thing about powder coating a day after it being new. It’s a trailer, it’s going to be abused. And every bit of powder coating I’ve ever dealt with has just been a nightmare compared to the repair ability of paint.
Joshua Tex Great point! We actually did take a very similar approach when we designed our powder coating process. We started from scratch knowing that powder coat had been given a bad rap in the trailer industry due to many early on manufacturers who either used cheap material, didn’t use any primer or really didn’t prepare the trailers well.

I missed something ! The heavy semi trailer manufacturers have been doing engineered beams for decades, what the hurdle has been is going away from "doing it the way its been done forever"
When did you decide to hire an engineer who was already familiar with designing a engineered beam? I was an automotive mechanic during the days of carburetors and distributors. I saw the industry switch to computerized carburetors and then electronic fuel injection. I also worked as a diesel mechanic with the mechanical fuel injection pumps. When the diesel industry was forced to meet the new EPA standards for diesel engines they made the same mistakes the gas engines made in it’s infancy. Why didn’t they hire some engineers from the gasoline industry which had gone through the growing pains?

Build a trailer with a Moritz neck and Diamond C engineered beams air ride disk brakes with a aluminum straight deck with 12ft pin on ramps would be a BIG BIG improvement
DC has the best and strongest neck design out there. It’d be a downgrade if anything.

I really love the trailers and I am ready to order a fmax 216 fully decked out, however, there is 1 more thing I am missing
Please offer a galvanized option, since most trailers look like garbage (rust etc.) after only 2-3 winters here in 🇨🇦. Salt, sand and gravel take a lot out of trailers. I have seen a few galvanized trailers that don’t have all the options like DC’s, but they stand these conditions way better

where diamond c name come from?
Great question! The Diamond because it was a popular name back when we were founded in 1985 that the family liked and the C stands for the family name "Crabb".
One thing I have noticed no matter how big the company is they never do well on UA-cam if they label their Channel by name. It works better if you have a Character that makes a channel and covers the products.
This is an exception.
Its great but nobody has done it for 40 yrs because of cost. At 2x the cost of the old school trailer its not worth it for most consumers.
Lots of talk. Not much show. Does that work for trailer buyers? Is this the History Channel or is it supposed to be a promotional video?

Powder coating is not the way.

We would have to disagree with ya on that one. If prepped correctly and premium primers and top coats are used it is far superior to paint. Many companies have given powder a bad reputation over the years by leaving out important pieces to save $.

@@diamondctrailers any time there is a break in the coating. Bolt holes plate joints rock chips. The salt gets in behind and is unstoppable. Way harder to repair.
@@daleolson3506 we use a zinc enriched epoxy primer which combined with effective preparation prevents the moisture and corrosion creeping that you are speaking of.
A lot of what has given powder a bad name over the years is where manufacturers have used no primer, some mainstream brands still do this, and once it’s fractured moisture and corrosion spread like a disease under the surface.
You are correct in that it can be more difficult to repair. We do have available color matched polyurethane for touch up should one need to be repaired.
@@diamondctrailers I've never seen a powder coat that could stand up to stone chips. Where do you think farmers haul their hay ? Gravel roads. You should galvanize your trailers.
Lol you make me laugh. I have been in the trucking business since the mid 70s and all the trailers used in trucking have fabricated I beams for the main frames when they have frames aka flat beds dump trailers floats. Only the small trailer industry use as you call them mill i beams for main frames. They dont have the strength of fabed beams are heavier and only come in limited dimentions. Fabing your own main frames should be the first order of business when contemplating building any trailer
All these trailer companies brag how great their trailers are, but not one of them can paint them with a quality standard! Not one company!!!!! Come on it's so basic and you can't even get this right!

We wanted to point out that the video you’re referencing is two and a half years old and with all of the advances we’ve made - particularly in the coating process - in the time since it was made it isn’t a true depiction of the product being produced today.
I have a 10 year old trailer that was powder coated , now it's almost see through because of rust and they used there fabricated beams out thin steel that sucks , no names

It's all about weld placement along with the material it's self I think an absolute indestructible trailer would be hardox450 you would be able to keep the weight way down with smaller members it has insane tensile strength but still formable and very weldable gotta have knowledge about preheat and intermittent pass tempature
