I’m going from Canada, so I converted your cost to Canadian dollars, and man, wow. I’ve looked into Europe for my first international in a long time, and more Eastern Europe and Sofia, Bulgaria may be my first stop come April. Seeing this breakdown was a job well done.

It might look like this: $250 rent $50 misc $50 transport $50 emergency $250 food $150 fun Expect to experience stress the first month as you adapt. Get through that first month with money saved and the remaining months will be good.

Thank you for such kind words, it means so much when I know they're finding the right people. When moving month to month I stick with Airbnb for the convenience. If I were to stay for more than a month I would start in a super cheap place then tour other options. For this I'd post what I'm looking for on the local FB groups and reach out to some local Realtors. I'd also look for other rental sites as each town seems to have it's own version of Craigslist. Short term is possible, you'll pay a little more though :).

Sofia’s an excellent city but the surrounding towns are also great places to stay. I totally understand retiring there.
