I listened to you and kind of had my mind blown. I thought, what, really? Is this what Ardas could be? And now genuinely reading it I don't know how I missed it before. Excellent video and excellent channel, I feel you give the most honest and productive account of what is most important in Sikhi.

Thanks so much for this! I totally agree; to ask for the strength and willingness to be at peace with the Universe's ways - to accept His 'bhaana' - is the greatest prayer (ardaas) of all. In addition to this, 'ardaas' can take many forms, as it is simply a spilling out of all internal dialogue, to the Universe - it is a conversation with God. Ardaas can take place at any time and place, and need not always take the form of the formal ardaas discussed here.
As humans, we are full of emotions, anxieties, excitements, etc., and knowing that we can talk about these to someone who is always listening, is such a blessing. And doing so, gives us solace. And I believe that upon hearing our ardaas, Vaheguru Ji helps our situation in whatever way is right; our ardaas never goes unheard.
And because as humans, we don't have the power to do anything ourselves, ardaas is our greatest weapon - it is the way in which we can confide in our creator, knowing that he is all-knowing! Ultimately, I think doing ardaas is simply us reminding ourselves that the Universe is taking care of us... How intriguing!

🙏 SSA ji, I believe that Ardas is the way to connect to almighty, if we are already programmed what is happened to us and what would be our actions, then there is no need to connect with God. As I heard is we can change our destiny by connecting with God. Whatever is coming in our way that will come but with our good karma and gurbani and doing ARDAS to our almighty we can change the impact.
Example if I would have fight or something at high level but with the power of gurbani the impact will be super low. Whatever is happening would happen but it's impact will be not that high if we have faith on God and we do the prayer.
Your parchar is God but as you speak, it gives the direction that nothing will goes change.. love the God is Good, trust the is also good but the believe that he is with us and also listen our request is and helping us to achieve is also a right direction.

I'm glad that I found this video. The best part said by you .. "Just get in line so you can also walk the path , just like all the Gurus did". You have cleared so many doubts that arisen in me regarding the explaination of "Ardas". And See what has been said by "Sikhwiki" regarding the Ardas , the meanings what Sikhwiki is providing , I don't agree upon these meanings because it just saying to meditate upon all the Guru's one by one , but why Guru will tell us to meditate upon the Guru's?.. We have to meditate upon the "True Naam" and not on Guru's , or maybe i misunderstood sikhwiki explaination .. What you say? See the Explaination ,
    The ardas begins:
Ardaas, Ekh-oonkaar Vaaheguroo jee kee Fat'eh. Sree Bhagautee jee Sahaa-e; vaar Sree Bhagautee jee kee Paat'shaahee D'assveen
Plea: One God, Victory belongs to Waheguru. The sacred Bhagauti pervails; Ode to the Bhagauti by the tenth master
After first contemplating the one Primal Power of the Almighty, Ek- Onkar, Waheguru, the ardas continues with: Call to the mind Guru Nanak. Then let your mind dwell on Guru Angad, Guru Amar Das and Guru Ram Das, may they watch over us. Meditate in remembrance upon Guru Arjan, Guru Hargobind and Sri Har Rai. Dwell upon Guru Har Krishan, seeing whom all sufferings shall depart. Meditate in remembrance upon Guru Tegh Bahadar, and the nine treasures shall hasten to your home. May they protect and help us everywhere. And the Tenth Master Guru Gobind Singh Jee, father of the Khalsa who has blessed us with the gift of Amrit - may we enjoy his protection everywhere…

      @NanakNaam  8 років тому +9

+harpreet singh Gurfateh Ji, This is a very common translation which mentions remembering each Guru individually. So it cannot be said that it is wrong. Only some of the older translations of Chandi Di Vaar (where the beginning verse of the Ardas comes from) translate it as mentioned in this video. Either way, we have to remember that in Sikhi we only view the Guru as Shabadh/Wisdom, which means that we do not worship the Guru's physical body in Human form, but rather we see all the Gurus as a personification of the One Divine.

    • @TheAmenine
      @TheAmenine 8 років тому +2

But there is no need to remember each Guru Sahib one by one in Meditation. When we meditate on "Waheguru" that covers everything. I know there are references from the Gurbani only that tells Guru and God is same. And I will not say that this is wrong but according to my understanding no need to meditate on Guru's.If this is so then why not remember every Enlightened Being on this earth ? .. Buddha , Mahavira , Krishna , Jesus etc. And I'm talking about all Guru's names and not on a particular word Guru. Guru is already covered in Waheguru. So no need to remember any by their names. That's my point.

Hi, really good videos looking forward to future ones. Insightful videos about the self and how we build up a fortress. The only thing I noticed was that you have BoS under the channel section which is really good, i've been following them and its been helpful in learning more about Sikhi. Not sure about that OSHO channel saw a few weird videos, e.g about the mystic talking about marriage and children - he was saying some pretty strange (un-gurmat) stuff... it may be best to review if you want that under that section. Thanks and keep up the gd work

@nanaknaam many people describe ardas as a "plea" - like a humble request. Without a more in depth translation of each line of ardas, I'm finding it hard to understand. Especially when looking at other translations online. I can appreciate that when keeping in line of not asking for more and more, we must accept the hukam - I'm just sat here trying to write down my translations and this one has me puzzled!! Please help :)

Gurbani does not believe in miracles. Period. Everything happens because of His Hukam - "Hukmeh ander sab koh bahar hukam nah koay". Guru Angad Sahib Ji, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, Guru Gobind Singh Ji could have used miracles if they wanted to, BUT that would have been going against the Hukam of Akal Purakh. So whatever happens beyond your understanding, is Hukam and not miracle.

Sin is universal problem. Sin is ubiquitous. Humanity contaminated by sin. Sin in us by default, not learnt, not taught. Sin manifests in many forms - evil, crime. Sin is the opium. The origin of sin is unanswered.
    My journey.
Sin is pre-existing in all. Nobody taught us to sin. Sin pre-dates The Bible. The Bible explains origins of sin. The Bible provides remedy for pre-existing sin, through Jesus Christ death and resurrection. The Bible is best selling book in the world for this reason. Sin is real, The Bible is relevant. Sin is born at every child birth. Sin is disease of heart, and Jesus Christ is the cure.
Satan is the enemy, came to steal, kill and destroy. Misleads us to blame good loving God. God is not the author of evil.
Media, Police, Defense, Judiciary, Penitentiary, Security, Contracts confirm sin exists.
The origins of life, natural laws, sin, morals, purpose, meaning, conscience, music, creativity, intelligence, beauty, color, nature, water, air, light and amalgamation, remain unevidenced - elsewhere.
We love truth when it enlightens us, but hate when it convicts us.
Instructing to "Heart wash" from sin is not "Brainwash".
God created universe, placed natural laws, made humans in His image, gave talents, instructed to multiply and explore - The Initiation of Science. Science is the legitimate child of natural laws. Without natural laws science has no foundation.
We are created with good purpose and meaning. We are good. Then sin entered through satan and we all fallen. Disease, despair, deformities, deficiencies, depression, stress, guilt, greed, hate, anger, rebellious spirit, spiritual death entered. Sin plays spoilsport.
Unloose the Soul from the tight knot of sin. Soul outlasts death.
Sinners cannot save themselves from sin. Jesus Christ, the Holy God, intervened, willingly died on The Cross and resurrected, for remmissions of our sins, to save us from sin and hell.
We are weak at the core, however we try to portray otherwise. We need Holy God's help, who is willing to help with open arms.
Unable to find any motive any reason for Jesus Christ to die willingly on Cross and resurrect - except His love to save us from pre-existing sin and hell.
Nobody died for our sins and resurrected - except Jesus Christ. Exclusivity
    Jesus Christ claimed:
"I am The Way, The Truth and The Life". "I am The Resurrection and The Life".
    "I am The Good Shepherd".
Jesus Christ has the authority to forgive sins.
Religion says "Do". Jesus Christ says "Done".
Religion is man's attempts to 'search gods'. Jesus Christ came from heaven in 'search of man'.
Salvation from sin and hell is not earned through works or deeds or pilgrimages or rituals or ceremonies or traditions or cultures or meditations or public displays or hypocrisy or making personal sacrifices or making animal sacrifices.
Salvation from sin and hell is free, but not cheap. Because Jesus Christ laid His life on The Cross, and resurrected.
God loves the sinner, but hates the sin. Just like a parent loves child, but hates disease in child.
We are saved by God's grace, not by our works.
Karma is getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we don't deserve. Only Grace can be pre-fixed with word Amazing. Amazing Grace. Karma is not Amazing, it is depressing.
GRACE: Getting what we don't deserve - i.e. forgiveness of sin, eternity in heaven through Jesus Christ.
MERCY: Not getting what we deserve - i.e. punishment of sin, separation from God, eternity in hell.
Other side of death is eternity. Either in hell; or in heaven through Jesus Christ.
God offers grace and mercy for free through Jesus Christ death and resurrection.
Jesus Christ suffered, ridiculed, spat-on, humiliated, crucified on The Cross, and therefore He understands our pain. He raised victorious, we will too. Those who endure till end are victorious.
Jesus Christ coming again to judge all. The doors will be closed. Jesus Christ reveals every mystery, answers every question. We all deserve to know the truth. He is The Alpha and The Omega. He judges everyone.
One day every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
The First Christmas - Jesus Christ came to earth from heaven to save us from pre-existing sin.
The First Good Friday - Jesus Christ crucified to The Cross, died willingly for remission of our sins.
The First Resurrection Day, also linked to Easter - Jesus Christ resurrected from death.
Jesus Christ made entry to Holy Heaven free through Him. Repent of sin and be saved. Easy.
The First Coming of Jesus Christ - He is Lamb, slaughtered for remission of sins
to save us from sin and hell. And resurrected.
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ - He will be Lion, The Judge.
    The Lamb and The Lion.
Jesus Christ forgave all who crucified Him, and now forgives all, even who reject, ridicule and mock Him. He loves all unconditionally.
Believe, trust, repent of pre-existing sin in Jesus Christ that He died for remission of our sins and resurrected, and coming back to judge, accept Him as Lord and Saviour, and be saved from sin and hell. Any time, any where. Even now. Simple.
Nothing to lose, everything to gain.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
I found God loved me regardless of sins, weaknesses and rejections by others. As sinner I cannot save myself through deeds. He believed me and has faith in me. I am not in competition with others. God loves you all, individually.

Bhaugati means sword. Period. Pls do not kid yourself nor mislead the innocent. I liken your interpretation as the "Blind leading the Blind." Bhaugati refers to Durga the Hindu Goddess. The whole ardas is lifted from Markandeh Puran, a Hindu text. So in the Ardas it says Pray to Durga FIRST, and it is mentioned not once but 3 times. Then only think about Guru Nanak after praying to Durga first. To understand Gurbani, use Gurbani and look for the contextual meaning of Bhaugati. The SGGS Ji will confirm that the word Bhaugati used in the Ardas is Durga and nothing else.Repent before it is too late.By the way what is that emblem that you have affixed on your turban. For those who do not know it is not the Khanda but a Hindu emblem. Don't believe me, look at it carefully and compare it to a Khanda.

You claim that "Bhagauti" refers to Durga in "chandi di vaar". But if you continue reading "chandi di vaar", you will notice that Guru gobind singh ji says, "durga picked the Bhagauti in her hand". LOL so does this mean that the guru is saying that durga held herself in her own hand?? LOL. The answer is NO! "Bhagauti" refers to the sword. Therefore, guru gobind singh ji does NOT call out to durga before calling to Guru Nanak and the other gurus in the ardas, but rather the guru calls out to the sword. NOT Durga.

And there is a story behind why guru gobind singh ji calls out to "bhagauti" (sword) before he calling out to the other gurus. Here it is:
In a certain place in india in the time of Guru Nanak dev ji, the mughal king "Babur" had attacked. Just before attacking this news had reached the hindus of that area that "Babur" has attacked or is going to attack.
Then, the hindus of that area went to their hindu temples and prayed to their hindu gods and goddesses to protect them from the islamic king "Babur". The hindu priests said to the people, "do not worry, we will recite a certain prayer/mantra which will turn the army of Babur blind and they will not be able to harm us". Hearing this, the people of that area got happy and trusted the priests to actually stop Babur and his army from attacking. So they never got ready to fight, they never took out any weapons , with the foolish hope that the hindu priests will actually stop the army of Babur simply by reciting a mantra (prayer).
What happen then is that, Babur and his army attack and kill all the people (lol) and the priests could not do anything though their superstitious practices which they thought will benefit them. Guru Nanak dev ji talks about this and says, "none of the mughals became blind, no one could perform miracles".
Therefore, putting all this together, this is the reason why Guru Gobind singh ji calls out to the "bhaguti" (sword) before he calls out to the other gurus. It is because it represents the fact that the sword is essential to fight against injustice, and simply doing unless rituals will NOT benefit. This is JUST ONE of the stories behind why Guru Gobind singh ji gives importance to the sword. Because if the people of that area had took out a sword against the mughal army instead of just sitting down like morons peforming rituals with the hope that the army will turn blind, they would have actually been able to save themselves or at least they could have protected themselves somewhat . Thus guru ji gives importance to the sword and calls out to it before calling out to other gurus in Ardas. He does NOT call out to Durga.

It must be understood that Sikhism points these stories out from chandi di vaar simply as stories to learn from. Durga is NOT made an object of worship. If the guru was calling out to Durga, then can you explain why did guru ji give Durga such a low status in Guru granth sahib ji?? I gave you references from Guru Granth Sahib Ji above which basically depict Durga as an ordinary creation and nothing more. Therefore, Guru Granth Sahib JI is very very VERY clear that Durga is nothing special and should not be worshiped. Chandi di vaar on the other hand highlights how nothing is beyond the almighty God and if any deities / beings with divine powers exist or existed, they are solely God’s creation, and it is to show that women are able to do same stuff as men as well such as fighting on battlefield.

Durga is NOT supposed to be worshipped in sikhism. Sikhism is against the worship of durga. Durga is NOT given importance in sikhism. Therefore, your claim that, "sikhs call out to Durga", is complete and utter nonsense. I have proof which I will provide.

Durga is NOT given significance in sikhism. Here is the evidence from our scriptures:
      ਚਰਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਜਿਹ ਬਸਤ ਭਵਾਨੀ ॥
Charn Sarni Jih Basata Bhavaanee ॥
The goddess Durga takes refuge at His (God's) Feet and abides there.
      ਅਕਾਲ ਉਸਤਤਿ - ੫/੨ - ਸ੍ਰੀ ਦਸਮ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ (end of quote)
In the above quote, the guru says that Durga is just an ordinary creation of God and she takes refuge at his (God's) feet. This quote shows she is not given any importance in sikhism and is described as a mere creation and servant of the Almighty God.
      ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਉਪਾਇ ਖਪਾਏ ॥
      Barhama Rudar Aupaaei Khpaaee ॥
He (GOD) hath created and destroyed Brahmas and Rudras (Shivas).
      ਅਕਾਲ ਉਸਤਤਿ - ੬/੨ - ਸ੍ਰੀ ਦਸਮ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ (end quote)
In the above quote, the guru again speaks of hindu gods and says they are just creations of the one true Almighty God and they even get destroyed by the one Almighty God. They are NOT given importance in sikhism either.

Reality check: The Ardas is copied from Chandi Di Vaar which is a composition in the Bachittar Natak (Magnificient DRAMA). Chandi Di Vaar's origin is from Markanday Purana. Chandi refers to Durga and her other names are Bhagauti etc. So in the Ardas, Sikhs pray first to Durga (3 times) before they focus their thoughts on the teachings of Guru Nanak. My recommendation for every Sikh is do your own research and studies. Sikhism is a universal way of life and jogging on the same spot will not help!! We need to use our mental faculties to decipher critically what is being said by these so called preachers!!

Guru Maniyo Granth you said that your humble request to sikhs is to do their own research. Okay I did, and here is the info I got.

Here is more proof from sikh scriptures that we do NOT worship Durga or give her any significance:
      ਦੁਰਗਾਕੋਟਿਜਾਕੈਮਰਦਨੁਕਰੈ॥
Millions of Durga goddesses massage His Feet.
(Sahib Shri Guru Granth Sahib, Ang 1162)
This verse is saying that millions of Durgas massage God's Feet hence why Durga is not considered important in the Sikh religion. .

sikhism promotes gender equality and encourages women to take an equal and leading role in all walks of life - including on the battlefield. In the Sikh composition ‘Chandi di vaar’, Durga is used as an example of the power of a woman on the battlefield. She is depicted slaying demons and overcoming her evil enemies. Even the greatest of deities such as Indra bow to her. This is merely used as an inspirational example rather than making Durga an object of worship.
