- Well, it's been awhile!
Almost 2 years, actually! I don't have much of an excuse other than a lot of life happened during that time, though I'm always active online (just... not on UA-cam, sometimes!) Anyhow, I just want to use this moment to say thank you for the 9,000+ subs; that's nuts, especially considering my lack of content! I'm really grateful.
This video has been in the works for awhile, but I finally had a rush of motivation to bring it to completion! There's no text this time; I did try for about half of the video before I decided it took away more than it added, though I was very indecisive. I hope you like this anyhow!

You can think of this video in two acts: the first act portraying Ash(paw)'s early life, where he became an apprentice, his mother getting murdered by Tigerstar, and helping lead the dog pack along with Fernpaw.
Second act is the more commonly seen part of his life; his relationship with Squirrelflight, his jealous + animosity with her kits, and the resulting drama. Lots of fire. Then he gets murdered. Whoops!

How Ashfur conducted himself truly is despicable. But I'll admit that I feel for him on some level. No one wants to be alone. That's a raw, agonizing feeling that takes hold and never lets go. That doesn't mean you have to make yourself into a monster over it though. Ashfur should be both pitied for never being loved, but also scorned for his behavior. It's a complicated thing.
Yes!!!! People need to stop blaming Brambleclaw for "stealing" Squirrelflight, or blaming Squirrelflight for "driving Ashfur to do it." Murder is never the answer, which is why we see Mapleshade as a villian (albeit a very nice and spooky villian.) Rejection is a normal part of life. It's not Ashfur's fault for feeling sad about being rejected, and it's not his fault for having a rough life with his mother dying young, but there were a hundred different paths he could have chosen. All that being said, the amount of complexity he shows makes him a pretty well written character.
i think ash would’ve been a _wonderful_ antagonist had the authors let him be that ;; the _antagonist_
they instead treated him as the “misunderstood bad boy” which to me feels ;; insulting, actually?

I love how this PMV focuses more on his character and the fact the Brambleclaw was his friend who got together with his true love, and that’s why he didn’t blame Brambleclaw, while most PMVs just focus on his relationship with Squirrelflight
I always felt Ashfur's story was abused too much.
I loved how his story connected to a life of loyalty, and his attempt to be a good cat overall. Putting deeper meaning into the fact he had only seconds to mourn his mother, and avenging her by helping the clan. He aspired to be a good warrior, nothing more.
He was loyal to Squirrelflight, and it's proven over and over again. He was nothing but kind to her, stayed by her side even though she rejected him many times, unlike Bramblestar, who even took fancy to a kittypet after the Great Battle.
In the end, I found it actually quite reasonable he ended up snapping. Having Lionblaze as an apprentice was salt in the wound, and though his actions were quite rash, I thought he did it in a second worth of thinking, rather than planning it. (I may be wrong.) Killing others kits isn't justifiable, but Ashfur was basically walked on by the Firestar bloodline over and over again. I don't agree with his actions, but the development was actually quite nice.
EDIT: I wrote this three years ago, and I want to clarify on something. Ashfur is a piece of shit, and he would not be a better mate to Squirrelflight. It is not just Firestar's bloodline that made his story so great, it was the fact that he was lonely in a clan despite doing everything right. He shows the fundamental flaws of the warrior code, and I think that is shown exceptionally well in the recent ongoing storyline in WC. When I was younger it was difficult for me to convey just how awful Ashfur was while still complimenting his story arc because god damn, in retrospection the story is much more interesting. However, Ashfur is an awful, awful character who would not-- and I mean this wholeheartedly-- be a better mate than Bramblestar. Let's all agree they're both awful and Squirrelflight deserves better, and move on. Me three years ago could not convey that nuance, so please do not think I'm saying Ashfur was a good or understandable character.
This is really interesting. I always disliked Ashfur, and said that he should have been more responsible with his feelings, that he wasn't justified in trying to kill his leader and four of his clanmates, but emotions aren't that easy to control. Some people do snap, and they end up trying to murder. I still don't think his actions are reasonable, and don't think life is such a petty thing that it's allowed to be taken away simply because you're angry, but maybe his feelings in the end weren't an overreaction. His actions of murder were.

i agree. i don’t think he really realised, not everything will come to you with just hard work. he was a good cat, but not *the* cat for squirrelflight, and he couldn’t accept that.
He was overprotective of her and babied her and she didn't like that which is why she rejected him. No clue why she had to go back to Brambleclaw though, I feel like if Shrewpaw didn't die she would have been with him

I love how this focus' more on his past besides the overused fire scene, no one seens to care that he was actually pretty cool with Brambleclaw before the Squirrelflight, no one cares really noticed that his mother was killed during the dog attack and he and his sister fought off some of the dogs.

I've always loved Ashfur (COUGH COUGH ASSFUR) because he was never perfect. His mother was murdered and he got past that to help out his Clan. He got over his sister's death. He endured alot, so he got closer to Squirrelflight. It must have hurt him so much when he realized he was just a friend. I'm not saying he should've threatened to kill "her" kits because he got jealous, I'm saying don't hate on him. He made a mistake and paid for it with his life.
Agreed, I think he just snapped. Besides, Starclan forgave him, right? They must've seen something.
Anyway, I was wondering, you mentioned his sisters death... but Ashfur died before Ferncloud, and Cloudtail is still alive. Did he have any other siblings?
I agree, but don’t you mean he lost his mother, Brindleface? Ferncloud died after Ashfur right?
But he got more siblings, and they died.
You can read that they died from greencough, in the second or third book.
Or even the first, only, you can't read it are their sibling, but they probably are.

Most people who do Ashfur videos only focus on his relationship with Squirrelflight, I'm glad you focused on his life before she arrived as well.
BRO I LOVED THIS PMV AS A KID
I love Ashfur's character and development because it's very complex. He has so many reasons to do what he did, though it doesn't excuse what he did keep that in mind, and has so much more to his character than "stereotypical jealous crazy ex".
He lost his mother very young and didn't long to mourn it, as an apprentice he was taught to take revenge via being allowed to kill Bone for his crimes (with some other apprentices), he was downward spiraling and no one really saw..which goes along with his speech to squirrelflight during the fire scene "It's like being cut open every day, bleeding onto the stones. I can't understand how any of you failed to see the blood", he was hurting for so long and no one ever noticed; once again this doesn't justify murder, attempted child murder, ect..it's just reasons for his doings, he broke inside making him do horrible things as he lacked support in his life but that doesn't make what he did ok

I always liked Ashpaw but hated when, as Ashfur, he lost his nut. So I ADORED this video because unlike most videos about him, you covered his early life where he was still a sweet cat. ;3; This was beautiful, and catchy! Great job! ;3;

Perhaps but idk if Ashfur was truly crazy. Because honestly, getting dumped isn't a very good reason to lose your mind and burn the chicks kids. So really, if I can't hate him for being crazy then I can hate him for his unjustified actions. That's how I hate him, for his dumb plot drama when he could of been a better character and not thrown away like the piece of garbage the authors just let him become.
Reason enough? c: Good. Because really if we get down to it, he's just a fictional cat. I can hate him because he's not an actual person lol.

If there was a justified reason (they sabotaged his life/killed his kits/mother etc.), I'd understand. However, it was a one-moon relationship. It may even be argued that they were friends only. It's like someone trying to kill an ex's *ENTIRE FAMILY* because the ex broke it off with them.
Also, just because? That is like saying that people hate attempted murderers because they tried to kill three to four people.
MysticalHuntress games I hate him because of how he handled Squirrelflight’s rejection, read the actual scene if you don’t know but she let him down nicely. Yet his response was to attempt to kill her Dad, who is literally also the leader of his clan, and he also attempted to kill her three kits but didn’t in the end because they weren’t hers. But if she hadn’t said anything or if they actually were her kits, Ashfur definitely would’ve killed them! He’s a psychopath and a big baby who couldn’t get over a rejection so he took things way too far.
i don’t think his actions are at all justified or righteous, but to all the people hating on him. he did *not* attempt murder just due to a breakup, it’s a buildup of an entire life of loss and having to quickly move on. having no time to grieve, no time to actually handle your emotions. yes the right course of action is not murdering an innocent she-cats family, but that was the only thing ashfur could think of doing at the time. there was nothing left for him.
Can't help but love Ashfur..He is literally in my top five favorite warrior cat list, ranking third.Honestly I have a theory that he could've been sick mentally speaking.Either way, I've always loved Ashfur and I always will.
Ashfur had such great potential to be a a well-written account of trauma and PTSD yet it was ruined by terrible writers. I'm so glad you made this and incorporated his childhood as well! Most people forget about it and only see him as the psychopath the Erins forced him to be at the end

I feel Brindleface's death and Ashfur participating in the dog attack to avenge her death might have given the impression that revenge turns out okay. Brindleface played a more important role than many think, and without her death the Ashfur and Squirrelflight scenario might not have happened. APRECIATE BACKGROUND CHARACTERS PEOPLE!!

Ashfur is my favorite character in warriors.Also this is the only animation I've seen that shows Ashfur's suffering.Instead of just showing the fire scene and his love for Squrrielflight,like it's the only thing that has happened in his life.

My favourite part about ashfur was how nice he was to squirelflight before brambleclaw took her(I'm just going to say that) but the best part was when brambleclaw ashfur and squirelflight went out for like a patrol or something in twilight and ashfur started throwing clumps or moss at squirelflight and the they a moss war. That was my favourite part of warriors so far. Great drawings and how it's animated. Thank you for putting the story on his past and not the worst of him.
