The ARVN is a commonly underrated and unknown military of the world, and is known as cowards who didn't fight back, dropped their weapons, and ran away from the Vietcong. That is not true, the ARVN defeated the TET 1968 Offensive in a matter of days and months, and the EASTER 1972 Offensive without ammo. The US only fought from 1965-1972, only 1/3 of the war, which means the ARVN fought most of the war. In the last years when the US ran away, the ARVN fought back desperately even in the face of defeat, and inflicted thousands of deaths on the communist invaders who had the combined full support of USSR and China, while the ARVN had no support, ammo, food, fuel, or supplies. They fought until the very last drop of blood, only surrendering because the corrupt government told them to. These soldiers are the true heroes of Vietnam, not some invaders who broke treaties, committed war crimes, distorted history, and ravaged the country. The ARVN are NOT cowards like (most) of the Afghans, but fierce and determined fighters who had the misfortune of a corrupt government and the wrong allies.

Very moved to see these images of events which are my first memories of the news when I was a child. I have a clear memory of the sadness I felt when hearing on the radio about the last defenses on the road to Saigon falling. Some day, Saigon will be Saigon again.
