The Iconic Peter Black Factory Keighley

Peter Black the man whose Keighley company employed hundreds of local people was born in Germany 🇩🇪 in 1908 born Hans Schwarschild based in Frankfurt he came to England 🇬🇧 and changed his name in the 1930s he originally settled in the South of England 🇬🇧 but came to Keighley and founded his name- sake company in Keighley in 1947 producing shopping 🛍 bags by the 1950s the company diversified into footwear and in the 1960s opened factories in Skipton ilkley Shipley Leyburn and Egremont the business became a public company in 1971 Peter Black who was well- known for his vintage car collection himself died in 1977 but the company continued and in the 1980s it diversified further into homeweares toiletries gifts 🎁 and cosmetics & furniture Peter Black also took over Hornsea pottery in 2007 Peter Black footwear & accessories was acquired by LF Europe 🇪🇺 part of the LI fung group and in 2012 the decision was made to relocate the Keighley workforce to Manchester on 14th December 1989 Princess Diana 👸 visited the Peter Black Factory in Keighley the Iconic Peter black name is to disappear from Keighley forever ❤ as the company prepares to move to Manchester it was once said every family 👪 in the town had someone working at the firm which was founded in the 1940s Peter Black's parent company Li - Fung hopes its entire Keighley workforce- now numbering 62 will relocate to a new office across the pennines the Keighley staff are currently involved in design development & supply chain management of footwear & accessories and rent their offices from a landlord who owns the former Peter Black Factory in Lawkholme Lane Keighley West Yorkshire.
