Suson is my paternal's mother's last name. They have large clans in Cebu specifically in Bogo Cebu. If Ken/Felip's father is originally from Cebu, we might be related LOL 😁😁😁😁😁. And one more thing, most Suson I've known, pretty much good looking people LOL and a good singer. I am one of those unfortunate ones though who are not blessed with Suson looks and voice 😁😁😁😁😁 but my dad I am proud to say he is one good looking guy (really a Suson).

The Bisaya in Mindanao is Sinugbuanong Bisaya, so it's like a variation of. Among kaliwat is Cebuano but born & raised in Mindanao so I could tell the difference in a way. You were right with your observation that the Bisaya used here is more of a literary variety of Bisaya but it's not exactly deep, like ludabi/balaknon deep. Personally, I think proper Cebuano is much "deeper". Anyways, it's fun vibing to a sultry Bisaya r&b track. It's funny coz I can picture a young guy arguing with his girlfriend while listening to the lyrics. It's exactly how my younger guy friends speak so I can't help thinking this must be based on real life events 😅

There's a lot of Bisaya dialect in Mindanao. Of course, there are obvious similarities but there are a lot of differences as well. The word "patis" for example. In Cebu, it means soy sauce but in Lakewood (where Felip came from) it means fish sauce. Bisaya in general is like Tagalog. It has a unique dialect based on the region where it's used.

@@meliiimae Bisaya is quite a language to learn. But it's easy to figure out what words mean when you're exposed to the different dialects. If these little things facinate you, there are even more reasons why the language is fascinating once you dig deep. I'm happy Felip (a kababayan) is making art and music using the language. It's about time people, and Filipinos in general, become familiar with the language and appreciate its musical potential. There are a lot of hidden gems in OPM that's written in Bisaya! 🤟

Born and raised in the Philippines before I moved to Canada. I'm also from Cagayan de Oro where Felip went to school. Making that distinction because that's most likely where he learned Bisaya. People from Zamboangga speak Chavacano (Spanish Creole) not Bisaya. There's not a lot of difference between Cebuano Bisaya, Cagayan de Oro Bisaya and Davao Bisaya. You should be able to catch most of what Felip is saying. Cebuano Bisaya does have a harder pronunciation. The Bisaya from each city has regional terms that can cause confusion, but not enough to prevent full conversations. And no, CDO Bisaya is not any more formal than Cebuano or Davao Bisaya. But Felip is using deep Bisaya in Palayo or rather he's using Bisaya terms versus borrowed English words that in casual conversations we wouldn't use.
Also, there are very Famous Bisaya pop icons in the Philippines. Bisaya songs were just not given as much love as Palayo. The most notable of these are: Morissette Amon (Cebu), KZ Tandingan (Davao), Karencitta (Cebu) - check out her Karencitta track, Arthur Nery (Cagayan de Oro), Jroa (Cebu) and of course, there's Pilita Corrales if you want someone from the older generation.
And lastly, it's the Ilonggos who are known as sweet talkers, largely because of how their language flows.

most visayan languages, i believe, are rooted in cebuano, even in mindanao.. the only deep word that i hear in this song is "panalipod" which means "defend". i'm a cebuano and i'd say the words in the lyrics are pretty much expressed in the most modern way. i'm guessing the reason why you don't really recognize the words in the song is because the cebuano you know is the ones mostly used in the household setting..😅 i love your rv's❤❤❤
