BDD or not!!!! When could it be possible that people draw the line to mental disorder and criminal offense. Trying to be like someone, is it not identity theft and criminal offense, especially of world renowned figures/people???? What are the legal terms surgeons have to remind these people of rather than just imagining that they have a disorder. Do they sign some kind of rules with patients that they will not be held responsible for criminal acts using someone else identity before and after surgery ???
BBL?? I guess females who go for classical dances here in India, have a better outcome than using surgery. When you see a south Indian with that firm round butt, you know they have had a minimum of 5 to 6 years into classical dance (Barathnatiyam especially). The shape could be more to do with the person's activity too. Even like someone sleeping on their back for long or sitting for long. We used grinding stones and that enhanced and firmed breasts and chest muscles. Body naturally adapts and tones with a person's daily activity. Try and encourage them to do that if you have stopped BBL. Thank you!! But I do enjoy all the information you provide on Plastic surgery even if I am least interested in having one done for myself.
Now they want BBL, but later when they feel their body weigh them down, they will want to exercise to reduce. You are right about the fact that if they try to reduce later, the BBL done will also reduce. Why do people have to complicate their lives so much when there is enough and so much in the world??
I'd love to look like a celebrity - but they'd have to be short and fat with a wide nose and dark hair. lol

People want to look like what the current culture deems "beautiful". It makes sense that people would look to famous people and celebrities to determine their preferred look. This has been going on for much longer than social media has been around.
Dr, you are always so good about seeing people's beauty before they get work done, why are you mocking their choices of celebrities they want to resemble?
@@hoosiermama3001 he really isn't mocking them, he is indeed quite respectful. And plastic surgeries or any procedures carry risks, a lot of them, it's not a joke. Also, mostly it's irreversible so people have to be aware of all that. Sadly current media is wrongly informing all that's it's a trend and "everyone is doing it". We should learn to love ourselves not to try to change ourselves into copy of someone else, how is that healthy?

Just in case no one has mentioned this, Karen Houghton actually passed away two days after this video was posted. I'm not saying that to imply that it was linked to her surgery or anything, just figured I would mention it, because this video has only been up a few days.
Bipolar, diabetes and died of heart failure / cardiac arrest. Maybe everything she did was too much strain on her body specially at her age.

BBLs are just so crazy to me. So dangerous so you can, what, move fat from one place to another? Most people have a huge amount of muscle growth they can do by squatting. And it is healthier too!
People are lazy af. They want a quick result without putting in the work for muscle growth
I’ve had 2 bbls and work out heavy. Gym results and surgery results are two different things. Fat doesn’t replicate muscle and vice versa. That’s why the fittest women have hip dips. Plus a bbl/lipo is not a quick or easy recovery process.

The Trump adults all got their 1st surgeries around the same time.
Nothing says "family that's superficial and hate each other in real life" than plastics for the plastics.

BDD is so brutal and such a cruel beast 😖 I knew a girl in high school who had it, specifically irt her nose. She had an identical twin sister and when they were kids, she had a fall and broke her nose, leaving it with a small bump.
As they grew up, people would tell them apart by their noses, because hers was so different to her uninjured twin sister's nose. She fixated on it and insisted that it made her the "ugly twin". She said she hated that it was the first thing anyone saw when she and her sister were seen together -- even though it really wasn't and there were other small differences between them, especially as they got older.
So she had her nose "fixed" as a birthday present from her parents, and for a while, she was super happy with it. But then she got in her own head about how it was still noticeably different to her sister's nose, so people would know she'd had a rhinoplasty and therefore, in her mind, she was still the "ugly twin".
Thankfully, her parents talked her into seeking therapy instead of further surgeries and she's doing a lot better now. Moving across the country also helped, because she was able to forge her own identity and didn't even have to tell people she HAD a twin sister, if she didn't want to.
BDD is so insidious, in the ways it twists everything you see and everything people say against you. I've also dealt with it since early childhood and absolutely would not wish it on anyone.
THANK YOU for saying what you said about Body Dysmorphia & the patients in this video which is that you do not know. Today I listened to an influencer say in one of her videos that everyone who undergoes plastic surgery is experiencing a small amount of Body Dysmorphia Disorder which was an absolutely irresponsible & ignorant thing to say. BDD is a very serious diagnosis & can consume a person's entire life leading to other very serious problems like eating disorders, agoraphobia & addiction. I did my senior project on eating disorders & BDD & became so fascinated by it I continued to follow documentaries & studies after graduation, even 24 years later it still fascinated me & breaks my heart. I watched a documentary of one of the worst ever documented cases, she didn't believe she had BDD of course she kept saying she was just one procedure away from perfection she just wasn't sure what it was. Her father continued to pay for her plastic surgery procedures & they would doctor shop even going to different countries but all these plastic surgeons continued to operate on this girl who was still in her 20's. One of her last procedures was implants, she walked around the city with inserts in her bra that realistically made her look like she had size DD breasts on her small frame & she was a beautiful woman who got looks from people absolutely everywhere she went but would never see it unless she was testing out a potential surgery like the implants then suddenly she'd take notice of every single man that looked at her & smiled, honked at her, whistled, waved but she'd also freak out about men just looking in her general direction because she was way overselling the idea that she NEEDED this surgery. Initially she was so happy after getting her breast implants but not even 12 hours later she was crying in the mirror because "she's still ugly". I know I'm ranting I just really appreciate a doctor who can say yes this is something I encounter in my field of medicine a lot, can these people be experiencing this yes but do I know NO I do not.
So called influencers are just chancers with big mouths. Full of themselves, think that they know everything. The sad thing is the amount of gullible people who believe them. Rant over!

I love doctor Youn! My cousins name is also Youn. He is a cool guy and doctor. I haven’t seen a doctor since 2013 but we are still close friends. Dr Youn is very honest and just says what he means with a little bit of humor sprinkled in.
Who wants to look like the Kardashians? Everybody is unique and is beautiful.
Nothing wrong with getting a little plastic surgery: fix one or two things that bother you. But you'll still look like YOU. It's sad when people want to completely copy a celebrity appearance and end up losing what made them unique.
I feel the exact same way. Id like a few minor things done..... only to improve self...but not change my looks.

In all the years I watched KUWTK and read Kris Jenner’s book, I don’t ever remember her mentioning a sister. Her mother was on from time to time but no sister.
I was surprised to find out this was her sister.. she passed away a few days ago ):
I know, kinda bizarre right? One of the most famous families and nothing! Even Kris' Instagram eulogy feels weirdly sterile: "My heart aches for my mom MJ (Mary Jo) and my niece Natalie and I pray that God guides us all through this difficult time". As publicized as they are, can't say anything for sure of course, its not my family or mourning.
I may not be beautiful but I cannot see myself getting plastic surgery to look like anybody else. There are three reasons why I would never get a BBL. I just do not want a big butt as I like things on the smaller size. I would be really nervous having that procedure done, as Dr. Youn is not the only plastic surgeon who speaks about the risk of the operation and the high mortality rate.. I am not going to show my bare butt to anyone. There would have to be good medical reason for me to be in that position. Now if I was in a situation where I was looking for a plastic surgeon, I think I would inquire about BBL. If that doctor was willing to do that procedure, then I would take Dr. Youn's advice and run.
All those surgeries and still never ends up looking like the celebs they idolize

I had liposuction of my flanks and lower back instead of a bbl. It gave me a cute little perky butt with none of the health risks. I didn’t want a giant butt and thighs, I don’t think that’s pretty at all. I just wanted the fat on my flanks and lower back that I gained during pregnancy removed. And I also had a tummy tuck.

When I retired as a psychotherapist in 1998, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) affected approximately 85% of the female population in the USA. Chances are, with the onset of social media since then, those figures have tripled or even quadrupled.

I read somewhere decades ago that it’s a huge red flag to a plastic surgeon to tell them you want to look like a celebrity (for psychological reasons maybe?). I guess that’s no longer the case. 🤷♀️
when it comes to the body stuff... why is it not obvious that exercise & weight training is the safe suck it up annoying option if you want that... and most of us cant be bothered, and that's often why we admire people who bother. Any surgery is a risk to life and if its not necessary and there's other options. I mean, I like being lazy, don't get me wrong, but the risk aspect... and the fact people don't tend to compare the two at the same time is somewhat interesting

I do wonder how much of the claims that the patients want to look exactly like the celebrities is true. It seems more likely to me that they may have just wanted surgeries inspired by the features of other people, and then for TV sensationationalism reasons, a producer got them to lean into the talk about wanting to be a "lookalike"...

If there was no social media this would not be happening. Its all about views, impressing people...and showing how great your fake life really is (while your sad life sucks).
Before social media it was movies and TV that influenced people. Before that it was advertisements in printed form. And before that it was royal families. When things are in front of us (as humans) we often compare and some of us want to try to be like whatever we see, because it is perceived as better.

There's an entire state of the art hospital in Stilbaai South Africa just sitting there waiting for good resident specialist doctors incl heart, knee, hip and plastic surgeons.
I think that there should be a national 'clearing house' (nationwide database) for plastics patients. With one of these, reputable surgeons could look up their potential patient to discover if they have had (too) many plastic surgeries. As Dr. Youn has repeatedly pointed out, too many surgeries in certain areas (such as the nose) can permanently damage the area and further operations can destroy it (think Michael Jackson). It *does* sounds like it could be an abuse of power, but if it is only used by surgeons and/or the Board of Plastic Surgeons, these BDD patients might be able to get the help they need and doctors could be put on notice that their over-use of surgeries will not be tolerated.
It’s a little heartbreaking that Karen went through all of that just to look like Kris. I can’t imagine what it would feel like comparing yourself to your celebrity sister everyday to the point where you feel the need to change the way you look just so you can be as beautiful as her.

If you don't like your nose, stomach, breasts, butt, etc, then you make that choice for yourself. Don't try to look like someone specific. Say: I like this nose, stomach, boobs, butt. Unless you're trying to frame them for crime, it's pretty sad & you need to be confident in yourself. You understand that you're picking people who've already had work done.
I go to a place for tattoo removal (name). Been in a waiting room long enough to recognize faces but not the boobs. I bet all of you who want to look like someone else are already more beautiful.
I wouldn't mind looking like I did at 20, but I would never want to look like someone else.

I think the woman who wanted to look like Melania Trump looked much better beforehand. I’ve never liked her attempt at cat’s eyes. I think bigger eyes are a lovely feature. I have body dysmorphia- it stemmed from not getting any hair until I was 6 years old. I was initially bald for 4 years then started to get white fluff for hair. The children w3 played with never commented but when I went to school the teachers called me ‘baby’. I hated it as I didn’t know I was different until then. I hated them rubbing my fluff. I can look at one feature eg my eyebrows to shape, or my hair but I can never look at my whole face. I’m photophobic as well. The only photo I ever like of myself didn’t look like me!

I had a BIG OLE back, so I got lipo on my back, for 2 reasons: to get rid of back rolls, and to make my booty look bigger. It worked PERFECTLY! The booty is bootying.
