Rod Argent, the keyboard wizard and leader of the band, was part of the British Invasion band the Zombies and his musical talent has carried the former band throughout time and when he rolled out his own band in the 70s he took it up a notch musically. Glad you liked it. He and Colin Blunstone (vocalist) are carrying on the Zombies legacy with recent released material.
Really great track. Only knew this from one of those early 1970s K-TEL compilation albums. All those years I never knew they cut out the best bits. Still have that album.
Evening Justin. Dave from Beyond The Sea. So glad you returned to Argent, and a classic funky rocker. The tragedy is that the band was not more successful. Superb musicianship throughout, and in Rod Argent and Russ Ballard they had two top notch singers and songwriters. Trouble was, others often had bigger hits with their songs - but of course they received the royalties!
Finally !. You get round to Argent, a band whose songs I plugged about a year ago for your long song Saturday.( I know you reacted to "Hold Your Head Up") This is a fantastic song and it is a crime that it only got to no. 34 here in the UK. I would advise you to get into this band a lot more, though I suspect you don't need any prompting, judging by your reaction to this track. Carry on with this album or the albums "Nexus" and "Circus" . That's Rod Argent on the backing vocals there, along with Russ Ballard, they shared lead and backing vocal duties. Great reaction. Btw, the long songs I suggested were, "Circus" followed by "Highwire", they should be heard together, imo. Also, if it is only songs you're after, for now, then the three part instrumental, "The Coming Of Kohoutek", from the album, "Nexus", is a good one.
I remember having this album second hand and totally forgot this song. It’s blowing my mind now bringing back memories from the 70’s. Such a funky classic.
'All Together Now' is my favorite Argent album, with "I Am The Dance Of Ages" being my favorite song on the album. Other great songs from Argent are "Schoolgirl", "Dance In The Smoke" and "Thunder And Lightnining". Enjoy. I know I will.
Wow, my man! Great choice! Brings back terrific psychedelic memories of my teens! Remember their big hit, Hold Your Head Up? You are always smooth and in the groove! Happy to be sailing on your ship! Thom in Toronto ❤🇨🇦
Another belter of a song...love that organ Justin..oh yes butty. That groove,.I love this Justin. What a blast...bass,drums, guitar oh my!!!.❤ More please Justin 😊😊😊
Great song from a great band! Most people know their big hit(s), but what most people don't know is their Prog songs, particularly from their album "Circus," like the title track, or the songs "Trapeze" and "Clown," which sound more like Prog from the 2000s than from the mid '70s. I think you will love their Progressive music, JP. ❤✌
What a cool solo from Rod on this one. almost a disco feel at times in the rhythm and I. bet this song was fun to put together for the band Glad you liked this track JP
Tragedy When the feeling's gone, and you can't go on, It's tragedy When the morning cries and you don't know why, it's hard to bear With no one to love you, you're going nowhere Oh, ARGENT! Never mind. 😂
Interesting jam, tragedy I hadn’t heard it before… k, sounded classic. Not against more for sure… don’t wait 2 years though. Hang in there James! Good thoughts and prayers.
JP , you said ‘ I’m in the Mood ‘ ( for Argent )! Now I’ve been banging on for some time now about Rod Argent’s album ‘ Moving Home ‘ and the track ‘ No.1 ‘ , which is just excellent , but you and us out hear in listen land , would be perfectly happy for you to react to ‘ I’m in the Mood ‘ , from the same album . This is meant to be : surely not just coincidence . I’ll wait 😂👏
Hi Justin. Glad you liked Tragedy. Argent seem to get forgotten - which is a shame as they wrote some excellent tracks. Good that you remembered them. Unlike Jethro Tull. In particular War Child. Maybe I'm the only one on the whole of the channel who has been looking forward to your review.
Now that's a banger JP.....Argent ploughed a great furrow during the early to mid 70s. Dont you just love a Hammond organ sound....probably as a band exceeded the sum of their individual parts- tho they are all fine musicians!
Great pick JP.Try the Argent Nexus Lp. Music from the Spheres and Thunder and Lightening are on it. As well as the first song isa prog trilogy. The entire album should be played 🎶🎶
Now for 'It's Only Money' parts 1 & 2 and 'God Gave Rock and Roll To You' (from 'In Deep') then maybe you can move onto their more prog albums later - different but just as good. A massively under-appreciated band.
The disparity between good track and popular tracks can be quite large. Over the years I have found I often did not find popular music to be all that good.
This is a side of Argent I wasn't familiar with. I knew and loved 'Hold Your Head Up', and 'God Gave Rock'n'Roll to You'. Absolutely up for more Argent does prog, long-form, wotevs. Keep it coming, cheers, mate. 😉🤙🏼🎶❤️✨️🕊

"Beyond The Sea" by Bobby Darin! Now THERE'S a helluva song! Talk about a BANGER!

Listen to the “Circus” album, from their proggy later period.

Great band, I have all their albums. Been ages since I've listened to them!
"Hold your Head up" is still my #1 song from them.

Excellent song !
The single release was heavily edited in order to get radio plays(as was Hold your head up), anything over 4 mins would not get played.
Tragedy

When the morning cries and you don't know why, it's hard to bear
With no one to love you, you're going nowhere

Great song!!! You can try also "Lothlorien", their prog masterpiece (from the album "Ring Of Hands").
Awesome track from a great album. There are more gems in that basket.

Cool song from a melodic group. Try Thunder and Lightning.
Justin, what happened to Manny? I miss him so much, I would love to see a JPMP comeback!
The disparity between good track and popular tracks can be quite large. Over the years I have found I often did not find popular music to be all that good.
It's a really good album all the way through....
IIRC the UK single edited out the mid song jam section ..... can I say tossers!
VERY unusual: HEILUNG "Anoana" (live). Would like to know how you like this...... Greetings from Germany (frequent enjoyer of your show........😁)
