This was with a 35mm manual lens on APS-C (so ~50mm FF) with no stabilisation, handheld, at f2. So a bit wobbly. And the background was a bit blown out, but worth it for the good exposure on the fencers.
Hello Angel! I hope this comment finds you in good health and you've had a wonderful time during these festivities. Question: How has the Sigi Buckler been handling? I am planning to buy the Sword & Buckler and I am interested in its durability, for some guys at my club don't have too much faith in it.
Hello and thank you. ☺️ It holds up perfectly reasonably. I haven’t been fencing too much S&B lately but enough, and have participated in several competitions as well. No real serious damage. It will not be as tough as a fully hardened steel one of course but I find no reason to not trust its durability and do expect it to last years to come. I also find it more comfortable to fence with - wood does tend to jolt the hands less on impact. The paint on the edges gets chipped so it turns into a white rimmed buckler eventually, but that can be fixed if it bothers someone.
@@AngelChernaevHistoricalFencing Hello! Thank you for the quick response! Noted! So it holds perfectly. Some damage will be on it, because of course it's been used but nothing that compromises the gear itself except for the visual/aesthetic factor. The guys from the club use those black plastic bucklers from Coldsteel, and we had a steel buckler but it got bent after receiving an impact during a tournament.
The Coldsteel plastic ones are nigh indestructible but I really dislike them overall. Steel ones depend a lot in the hardness and thickness of the steel. Malleus ones are pretty good (currently unavailable) but they will still suffer some bents and aesthetic damage anyways.
@@AngelChernaevHistoricalFencingfencing hitting only the top half is fine (I do it too), but in s&b I'm not a fan since the legs are an important targets. I also feel that the risk to hit the legs after a descending cut hits the rim of the buckler is quite high.
I absolutely agree with you in general. In this case however it was quite casual. I will also play the experience card and claim I can control myself enough not to hit below the jacket in such an environment.
Fantastic dueling!
Thanks!
beautiful exchanges
Thank you
Nice slow-mo capture and editing
Thank you. 120 fps slowed down 5 times for the hits.

Damn I hope he doesn’t get kneecapped!
Don’t worry about it. He usually has full gear, just wasn’t wearing it today. Therefore we weren’t attacking legs.

Not easy to defend with such a small buckler. For a real fight I'd surely bring a bigass scutum & hope the op brought a buckler
Those bucklers are about average size. Sure a bigger shield will protect better but is also harder to carry around
