The rule has BEEN in place. Must maintain throughout. Ball came out when he hit the ground. No INT. Same reason Green didn't get a TD for OU prior to the fake FG. If either got screwed, it was OU on that play because the defender hit him in the face to break up the pass. Should have been a personal foul on OSU.
Just to settle the argument... In the 2013 NCAA Rule book, the organization offered clarification in Section E, Article 3, which discusses editorial changes, to what it considers to be an interception and recovery. The following won't be fun to read if you bleed orange. "a. To catch a ball means that a player: 1. secures control of a live ball in flight with his hands or arms before the ball touches the ground, and 2. touches the ground in bounds with any part of his body, and then 3. maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him to perform an act common to the game, i.e., long enough to pitch or hand the ball, advance it, avoid or ward off an opponent, etc., and 4. satisfies paragraphs b,c, and d below. b. if a player goes to the ground in the act of catching (with or without contact by an opponent) he must maintain complete and continuous control of the ball throughout the process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or in the end zone … if he loses control of the ball which then touches the ground before he regains control, it is not a catch." c. If the player loses control of the ball while simultaneously touching the ground with any part of his body, or if there is doubt that the acts were simultaneous, it is not a catch. If a player has control of the ball, a slight movement of the ball will not be considered a loss of possession; he must lose control of the ball in order for there to be a loss of possession." Later on the rule book announces the inevitable: "When in question the catch, recovery or interception is not completed."
"The tv announcers believe it was an interception from what we're being told"..... Uh, no ? Here is the verbatim quote from Sean Mcdounaugh and Chris Spielman who called the game for ABC. "And I believe it's the right call, incomplete. (Spielman), Yep. Tough call, but good call. Bang, bang. Play defense!".... Sorry Dave! The country and national audience was unsympathetic to your cause! You just got beat, period, end of story. No conspiracy there-
HAHAHAHA, going back and watching this is so great. It's the most OSU thing ever for the commentary crew to be complaining about the other team celebrating.
I was at this game. I saw OSU fans crying, and saw 2 OSU students get into a fight with each other. It was a weird vibe. OSU really thought they were going to win this game, and probably should have.
Here is why Gilbert's play at 1:58 WAS NOT an interception: Gilbert catches the ball, but when he falls, he lands on top of the OU player. He's not down at that point. When he actually hits the turf, the ball pops out immediately. Therefore, the apparent interception did not "survive the ground", which is the requirement on a play like that. Three different officials clearly saw what happened and made the proper call.
Agreed. I used to be one of the "I'll cheer for them if they are't playing OU" people. Their fans made it so hard that I always cheer for their opposition. Even if that opposition is...texas.
True story here... In HS, when OU was WAAAY down in the mid-90's, I went with one of my buddies and his family to an OSU game in Stillwater (They were all OSU fans/his dad was an alum; donor, etc). I had grown up an OU fan, my entire family had gone to OU, but Oklahoma was playing Texas in dallas that Saturday, so I figured, what the heck. I will check out an OSU game as a neutral observer. Well, OSU proceeded to get their asses whipped by A&M i believe it was... However, do you know for what the LOUDEST cheers I heard from inside the stadium that day were from ??? It had NOTHING to do with the OSU football team..plays they made, etc.. Every time they put the OU-Texas score on the scoreboard, that Oklahoma was losing, announced the score, etc....the place erupted like OSU scored a td (which didn't happen often that day).. Anyway, from that moment on, that second on, I made up my mind that I would NEVER pull for Aggie, in ANYTHING, vs ANYONE... And the rest of my HS, college, and professional career, never have, all due to that Saturday in High School....
@boomer13ish - I had something similar happen to me too. I would always be the fan who would "support every team" when they didn't play each other. Then I was around my OSU friends at a watch party when OU was playing Tennessee and those people are disgusting. The look on their face when OU came back from 17 down to win in over-time was priceless. I will never cheer for another aggie.
I have to commend your honesty here... Wish all fans could see it for what it is, both state schools, both in the same conference, when 1 isn't playing the other...CHEER FOR EM. No, you're right. Its a *hatred (and in turn, due to OSU's hatred, and the behavior you mentioned), I have grown to HATE OSU. I mean HATE... The color, the mascot, the radio play by play, all of it. We OU alum say Texas is the hated rival...but in all honesty, deep down in places we don't talk about at parties (thank you A Few Good Men), OU-UT have a mutual respect for each other. Earned through actual success in CFB. Both know that each has been there/done that. Id even say Texas a&m has passed Texas as far as a program I hate. But OSU... yeah, you're right. No love, mutual respect, nothing. Guess thats just the way it is. Good luck to you guys until we meet again!
This was anything but a "vintage" OU team, but there was something delightfully satisfying about breaking the ol' Pokes hearts quite like this. They thought they had it. Except they didn't. So fun.
So true, Oklahoma with its third string quarterback and OSU so confident and talking trash as a 10 point favorite. The poke choke! What is the series record now? Something like OU 90 OSU 12? Oh baby Little Sister OSU’s gift of a 2021 win dashed by another Pokie Chokie in the B12 title game. Maybe their last chance to get into a playoff? Maybe they can invent another football Natty! Lol!
This is an example of what is referred to in the local vernacular as "The Poke Choke". The "interception was not the last play of the game. OSWHO had several opportunities to stop OU. They did not do it.
Still so hilarious hearing them say "TV announcers believe it should have been an interception." Lol no they didn't. They agreed it was an incompletion.
Danielle Vog are you freaking serious those fans couldn't hear what the players were saying first off. Second OU was losing till late in the game I seriously doubt they were talking trash. Don't try to cover up the classlessness of the OSU fans & the cheerleader. OSU fans are and always have been a joke that's why they've never sold out a single football game. No one cares this isn't a rivalry as far as football goes OU owns OSU and always will.
Man of Low Moral Fiber stfu Oklahoma State got beat by the refs in this game one Justin Gilbert intercepted the ball and for two Oklahoma last touchdown wasn't a catch the WR was juggling the ball so no touchdown Oklahoma State wins. 2 times Big 12 Champions and probably Sugar Bowl champion 2 for 2 with BCS bowls games.
It's crazy, both of the biggest games in the OU season ended with a fumble and touchdown to seal the victory. this game with the fumble at 0 seconds on the clock, and the Alabama game where AJ fumbled at 50 seconds left...... man our OU defense brings the BOOM. BOOMER MF SOONER!
As far as their complaint about no review, there was no need for a review. As soon as the ball touched the ground, it was incomplete. Nothing to review.
He FELL on the Sooner WR?!?!? He was already down by contact!! When he caught it, he came down on the WR, then rolled to the ground and his arm hit the field, that's when the ball came out. He was already down by contact. If he had caught it and hit the ground straight away I can buy the argument, but he didn't. He LANDED on the OU player, who was already on the ground. He was down. Blown call, OU pulls out a win in a game that was called completely one sided. Congrats.
Ryan Austin If you actually read the rule book you will see that you have to have full possesion of the ball even when you hit the ground. So that means if you hit the ground and then let go of the ball then it is incomplete. Not a blown call OSU still can't seem to best OU as said in our 84-17 record it's also safe to say we've shut you out more times than you have beaten us. Step up your game.
Ryan Austin If he's on the Sooner WR, he's not down. Your lack of knowledge of football rules doesn't negate the call was correct. Same reason the pass to the OU TE in the back of the endzone was not a catch. Didn't maintain possession through the whole play. OU 5 penalties, 59 yards. OSU 7 penalties, 59 yards. Super one sided.
Ryan Austin -- Typical OSU fan. Nothing but excuses and lack of knowledge of the rules. I guess when beating your "rival" about once a decade...you'll look for anything. BOOMER SOONERS !!!
@Bleed Orange It was super close, but you have to maintain possession all the way to the ground (which he did not). It was a hard fought game for both teams, nonetheless! Neither team needs to be ashamed!
This game was about athleticism pure and simple.OSU went into the game with a solid plan but it boiled down to who was gonna make the big play. I do believe the cowboys were a play away from taking it BUT sometimes you can't beat determination.
I am die heart SOONER. My whole life living on,and around OSU I BELIEVED THAT WAS A Interception. And till doesn't the DEFENSE back have to compete the process of a catch just like the offensive receiver?
I feel sorry for the Cowboys - the worst thing to ever happen to them was to be in the same state as the Sooners. They trail the football series an incredible 90-18-7.....only a slightly better winning percentage than the Washington Generals basketball team has against their traditional opponent.
Technically..it wasn't an interception because he wasn't down until his butt touched the ground during which the ball was NOT in possession but already coming loose
Ou won this game, not because the Gilbert dropped interception, but because of the WORST time management of the Gundy era. Running hurry up inside the redzone while ou has 1 timeout. I remember being at this game (oSu freshman year) knowing that “OU Magic” was going to happen.
OU deserved to win and did. No arguments, other OSU fans need to stop complaining we still have up the score. But OU fans complaining about the "classlessness" of OSU is quite comical, knowing OU owns the title of the least classy fans in the United States of America.
Poke State just couldn't handle the fact that OU's last drive was a good one, they talked about that "Interception" nonstop, and then game ends and fans are throwing snow, trash at OU Players.
"TV announcers believe that it should have been an interception" - What announcers were you listening to? Everyone agreed it was a good no call. The ball popped out, so no catch.
PI on Craig is BS. On the next play, on the attempted INT, the ou goon grabs the face mask. WHERE'S the FLAG??????? HOLDING on the very next play on the LT on 2nd and 10. with :30 left...holding on the LT. Refs can't do their job.
OU beating the pokes in this game was just big brother looking out for little brother... osu got beat by mizzou 41-31 in their bowl game... can you imagine the score if they took on bama?
LOL !! Classic Oklahoma State Football logic ......SPECIAL REPORT ! The TV Announcers believe that it should have been an interception! the defender never did establish control of the ball! Also you can clearly see the defender disagrees with the TV Annoucers...You can clearly see the defenders panic and trying to get the ball show that regardless of what these announcers say he knew he dropped the ball.....Again Classis lil Bruh !
As an avid OSU fan: THEY DID NOT DO WHAT WAS NEEDED TO WIN. They played like crap all day long. Gilbert dropped the pick. Even if Bell crossed the line (which DID) it doesn't matter. Hang on to the ball and the cowboys win. Don't allow a TD drive in the last 100 seconds and the Cowboys win. Don't get a BS pass interference, don't play prevent defense, use a f-ing timeout!!!! It was a shitty day for everyone in orange. But the bottom line is they didn't do what they needed to do. Congrats Sooners. See you in Norman.
A. The rule states that a player's feet have to cross the line of scrimmage. From the freeze frame photo of the Bell throw - his FEET did not cross. Yes his entire arm and thus the ball crossed, but since his feet didn't = legal play. B. Craig clearly 'held' Saunders' right side of the jersey as ball was in air. He then let go to lunge with left hand to breakup the pass and let go of the jersey with his right hand. Now the argument can be made that this was still not a PASS INTERFERENCE call, an should have been a less severe DEFENSIVE HOLDING. Regardless though. It would have been a 1st down. Field position would've changed but that doesn't equal OSU not losing the lead. THANK YOU, COME AGAIN!
Actually, you're right. Except is the passers whole body that has to cross the NZ. So my bad. As for the interference call, my point was if OSU had its shit together that wouldn't have mattered.
We didn't even try , yet we won. Hmm Cowgirls suck , WHAT A SUPRISE! Oklahoma obviously rolled over OSU like they will against Clemson, and beat whoever stands in their way for a BCS title like the other team is a 0-12 team. BOOMER SOONER!
Lol I love how they say "TV announcers believe it should have been an interception." Lol COMPLETELY FALSE. The TV announcers believed that they made the correct call, but it should have at least been reviewed. Which I completely agree with.
The only call I think was maybe wrong was the pass interference. The near interception was just that, a near interception. The pass Bell threw wasn’t passed the line. His whole body was behind the line, and the qb only has to have any part of the body behind the line of scrimmage. And it was a clean touchdown to Saunders. He even had two feet down. OSU had that game. They just couldn’t get the stop, which they had done all day.
That's funny. I'd be more upset over the INT than the illegal forward pass. Both were correct calls though. Love watching these replays. Great ending to a fun season.
It wasn't an INT. Look at the replay, as he initally came down he landed on the OU player and was not down yet. He did not control the ball all the way to the ground as he lost it as he contacted the ground. Not an INT.
I had great respect and admiration for Okla. ST. cowboy fans, but then when a friend told me while he was at an Okla. State game at Boone Pickens stadium, the scores came up on the jumbo tron Texas beating Oklahoma and the place went crazy jubilation and celebration and that''s when I lost respect for Oklahoma State fans. No more our little brother, but a hated rivalry. I'm rooting for Boomer Sooner every year.

When are you going to post the OU radio crew's last few minutes and OT of the 2014 game?
+Jeff Worrell Don't be so salty, you wanna talk about last year?
I just think it's funny that the OU radio broadcast from 2014 is locked up tighter than the Mixon tape.
Probably will be the same with your CMU loss...
Not a loss. That's already been said
Welp, it is a 1 in the LOSS column....so....
"TV announcers believe that it should have been an interception" - What announcers were you listening to? Everyone agreed it was a good no call. The ball popped out, so no catch.
2007Whiplash2007 it never touch the ground so it was intercepted by Oklahoma State. Look at the play the Oklahoma State player foot was under the ball
It wasn't even close.
Trent Brown Are you blind? That ball was totally on the ground.
It never hit the ground dumbasses he chaught it. It was an interception
The ground cant cause a fumble when he came down he had the ball.
One of those games that takes years off your life.
Gilberts almost interception perfectly represents his NFL career.
The saddest fans in the world most be OSU. OU seems to destroy them or pull some of that Sooner magic that always haunted Nebraska people.
Lot of silence between the OSU broadcast team. lmao
PI on Craig is BS. On the next play, on the attempted INT, the ou goon grabs the face mask. WHERE'S the FLAG??????? HOLDING on the very next play on the LT on 2nd and 10. with :30 left...holding on the LT. Refs can't do their job.
This was the coldest game I’ve ever sat through.
ou has been excellent playing football since the 1950’s. It is a shame their fans have never been gracious.
OMG Blake Bell was so bad....How the hell did OU win any games with him. smh
His footwork looks like he’s in 6th grade
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Oklahoma a&m thinks they can compete with the big brother
Tulsa has a better winning % against OU lol..Think about that osu fans, let it sink in!
mike meawesome Oklahoma beat Tulsa very bad with they play them in football.
OU beating the pokes in this game was just big brother looking out for little brother... osu got beat by mizzou 41-31 in their bowl game... can you imagine the score if they took on bama?
This was beautiful ⭕️🙌
This shit never gets old
Is the announcer a coach? Sounded like it to me.
INT Gilbert Game Over. UA-cam name should be OUBenefitOfTheDoubtAlways
So you post about how Oklahoma stste got screwed.
How exactly did they get screwed?
Just like the previous touchdown catch by OU's TE it was ruled incomplete because he didnt keep possession of the football so no you didnt get screwed
This popped up in my recommendations and I had to watch. I’m always thirsty for some OSU cowboys tears
Sooners only loose to cowboys when they give up on them selves
Gilbert was a catch
I like the 2023 edition better.
I go for ou only if there notplaying osu or Clemson
The refs were right there to call the incomplete pass, but no call for the face mask by the OU player. Nice.
Search: OSU vs Iowa State 2011, Sooner fans
That's hilarious lmao 😂😂.
+Zeke McCarty Search every year over Iowa State Sooner fans.
or Bedlam 2011, OU vs TTU 2011, Baylor vs OU 2011
Or Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State 2015
+MajorMlgNoob Congrats on 2011.. Would you like to talk 2015?
As a sooner fan i approve of this video
As an avid OSU fan:
THEY DID NOT DO WHAT WAS NEEDED TO WIN.
2 50/50 calls against OSU on this drive.
did you like the final score 2015?
We didn't even try , yet we won. Hmm Cowgirls suck , WHAT A SUPRISE! Oklahoma obviously rolled over OSU like they will against Clemson, and beat whoever stands in their way for a BCS title like the other team is a 0-12 team.
BOOMER SOONER!
damn right
That was fun to watch, I marvel at how Gundy has kept his job so long as he's had a lot of talent and just can't get it done.
Lol I love how they say "TV announcers believe it should have been an interception." Lol COMPLETELY FALSE. The TV announcers believed that they made the correct call, but it should have at least been reviewed. Which I completely agree with.
Justin Gilbert intercepted the ball he came down with the ball and besides that Oklahoma WR got away with a facemask
Nope, it popped out when he hit the ground, so it was incomplete.
Those Ok-State fans at the end of the game were rude and not classy. That not how fans should not act at the end of the game.
Whens the last time OSU beat OKU... wait there hasnt been one
2014, ou wins 90% of the time smh
Sooner Magic
Still watch this today and reminisce on the many different times we've beat osu
The only call I think was maybe wrong was the pass interference. The near interception was just that, a near interception. The pass Bell threw wasn’t passed the line. His whole body was behind the line, and the qb only has to have any part of the body behind the line of scrimmage. And it was a clean touchdown to Saunders. He even had two feet down. OSU had that game. They just couldn’t get the stop, which they had done all day.
When i clicked on it i thought it was ohio state university
OSU's Gilbert never protested the dropped "INT" -- pretty telling. But agree it was close.
Bell also threw the ball with :44 seconds left on a 3rd and 10 PAST the line. Another play the officials BLEW. Should have been an illegal pass.
haha, are you joking, or still trying to convince yourself 2 months later?
do you not see the freeze frame at 3:54 mark?
That's funny. I'd be more upset over the INT than the illegal forward pass. Both were correct calls though. Love watching these replays. Great ending to a fun season.
Irrationality is a common with OSU. It was not an illegal pass. Watch the replay.
oukurt
Class... amazing how OU fans show how much class they lack.
The sooner scooner ran pistol peet over
That was a pick.
You have to maintain possession through the whole process of the catch. No.
No it wasn’t. He dropped it. OU won.
It wasn't an INT. Look at the replay, as he initally came down he landed on the OU player and was not down yet. He did not control the ball all the way to the ground as he lost it as he contacted the ground. Not an INT.
It Was Close Too!
Blake Bell was MONEY at OU.
Zero State has beaten OU 7 times in Stoolwater in their history. 7. LOLOLOLOLOL
shut your mouth
+night wolf You mad?
11:43 be classy osu fans gee
The only OSU fan I can ever picture is that fat fuck with his shirt off.
Lots of missed holding calls
Some great offensive coordination..
