In terms of production, I can understand why they decided not to make an entire season showing Jack at his time in China, after all, spending money sometimes is too much risk if a production goes to the wrong way... but in terms of story it would have been so much better than the path the show took since season 6. In fact, i think season 6 ending would have been a great ending for the entire show....if season 6 had come out with a very different plot , exploring what happened to Jack in China.

The secret intruder that was talking to Logan in the final sinister and I'm afraid, the most interesting moments of season 5 ....was Jack´s brother? really?...a president that survived a terrorist attack? really? a chinese diplomat resulting in a terrorist and sinister guy? really?, in fact, returning to your comment of "24 isn't just about Jack". If you remember the plot , specially of season 8, the entire action is practically about Jack, in a very similar direction of Robocop, that goes with the gun and kills every bad guy that puts in front of him. That simply doesn't makes sense, or at least not to me.

This plotline makes 0 sense. If the Chinese could abduct people in broad daylight, why couldn't they just bring Jack's daughter to him, and he would talk in 10 minutes.

If Jack is in China he’s not gonna be participating in the action of CTU Los Angeles. 24 isn’t just about Jack, CTU/FBI is equally important.
