As a lady with not a ton of bicep/lat strength to hold herself up, I find that simply swinging my hips (imagine a gymnast about to dismount from the uneven bars) builds the momentum I need to get to the next bar, even if the heights of the bars change. That momentum still helps me get a good grip around the bar and makes it easy to swing my way through. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🐒
Even as a moderately active female, I had the strength to hold myself up, but the diameter of the bars were just too damn wide. I have very small hands and couldn't grip the damn things. Didn't help that it had just rained and everything was soaked, including us.
This is my method too. Swinging only works when the bars are dry. Unless the bars are in the beginning of the course, there is little chance of that happening.

I've found that swinging, and using momentum, as well as the natural bounce of the bars is the best approach.
Maximum level of skill is being able to speak plainly while swinging from Spartan monkey bars.
