    The flame should be blue. The top nozzle really needs to be extremely hot to vaporize the kerosene and this requires patience. We used to use methylated spirit in the top reservoir, with initially very little pressure in the main reservoir it starts to draw the kerosene up and you must look for this happening and then increase the pressure a bit. The burner flame then starts heating the top up more and you can see the kerosene flame mixing with a lot of air in this way. Finally pressurize fully and what you have is much like any gas burner but a bit noisier. Methylated spirit for starting means the whole business is much cleaner and the stove can go in a rucksack afterwards. I think Primus was originally Swedish. My own stoves tended to get pinhole leaks around the filler neck. But very nicely done.

      Tilley lamps which work similarly have a regulator to gradually allow kerosene up the central tube. Im not sure why the stoves never had this because it allows good control and if not hot enough the kerosene flow can be stopped. It was the same for plumbers’ blowlamps.

      This is a poor quality Premus stove, we use to use Premus made in Sweden, it was great, the color of a flame was blue..

      My old Primus used to roar like a moon rocket! Plenty of pressure required. Maybe he didn't want to use to much with all the solderinf done??

      A part of the burner is missing, there should be a copper collar resting on the ring about fifteen millimetres from the top of the burner. It acts as a venturi and causes the flame to burn blue . this collar used to glow red hot on my stove and was quite easily damaged so I suspect they were made easily replaceable explaining why its missing on this example.

    Très bien pour la rénovation du réchaud, mais vous avez oublié de mettre la coupelle de la tête d'allumage. Sans cette coupelle vous aurez une flamme jaunâtre qui va noircir tout les récipients 😍👍

    Congratulations for the restoration. I also have one that I restored because it was from my late grandmother. At that time they were very common in Portugal, especially in fair traders who lived far away from home and the transport and roads were not the same as we have today. Made a good restoration now just preserve. Congratulations.

    There is normally a top section diffusing dome shaped piece that has a set of small holes all around the sides and sits ontop. When burning the holes all have a characteristic little blue flame and the heat disperses like any gas ring burner. The jet directly below often blocks and the unit makes a ragging sound signaling the jet needs 'pricking' to clear it. You need a 'pricker' tool. In the early 1960s my mother could prepare a full hot meal on a single Primus unit for a family of six in times of emergency when electricity was out and we were in a wild winter storm for days.... Funny thing... the unit was already really old then & i still use that same unit myself in my shed to melt lead for fishing sinkers (but not to cook meals)!

    There are a number of problems here. 1. The non return valve needs a lead washer and a rubber pip. 2. Use meths (denatured alcohol) to prime the stove and NOT paraffin. 3. Do not pump until the alcohol has nearly burnt down and the burner is hot. 4. The flame ring is missing from the top of the burner. This is necessary for correct operation. The flame should be burning clean and blue and should not blacken the kettle. Have you enlarged the hole in the jet to cause this I wonder? Whilst the cleaning is fine and the new legs work but PLEASE leave the assembley and operation to someone who knows what they are doing. I have over 45 years experience in restoring and operating these stoves and I wouldn't recommend your viewers follow this example of operating.

    It's a kerosine stove. You must preheat it with alcohol (spirit)(no soot). If the alcohol is burnt out. Then use the pump to pressurize the tank. The flame should be blue. Your yellow flame makes your saucepan very smoke black

      There are also 2 parts missing, there should be a steel ring on the burner to direct the flame. And a windshield to shield the alcohol from the wind.

    • @rajendersharma1334
      @rajendersharma1334 5 років тому +1

      @@estagoza This is a different burner without a ring which came after the one with a ring which also had a cup with perforations. It acted as a silencer. The one shown here makes great noise. Another part missing is a flat round base placed on the tripod to rest the utensil on. Some reservoir filler caps have screw-on covers under which a spare cap washer can be stored. It seems this stove also has this provision though the cover here has to be removed with a spanner instead of a screw-driver.

    Just bought this very stove, a gallon of k-1 kerosene (Or is it 1k?) & denatured alcohol. The stove cost $55.00 + tx. I have a sm wisperlite but dont want to be dependant on fuel cells. Cant wait to use it. Simple, reliable.

  • @richardbaker8928
    @richardbaker8928 5 років тому +2

    You should have bought a Primus spares kit which are cheap enough, all the seals you need including jet, pump leather, the pip for the NRV (no pip no pressure held in the tank). Outer flame rings are also cheap enough. Primus set the standard for these stoves and their spares are pretty much universal fitting many brands of stove.

      NC XXL هو كان لازم يحط سبيرتو في الصحن تحت رقبة الراس وبعدين يولع السبرتو حتى يسخن الراس كويس وبعدين يقفل الفتحة الصغيرة اللي تحت.الفتحة الكبيرة اللي من خلالها يملأ الوابور بالكاز وبعد أن يحترق كل السبرتو وقبل أن ينطفى يحاول يضغط الهواء بواسطة المناخ ويحاول أن ينظف العين الصغيرة بابرة الوابور حتى يزيل ا اي وسخ يعلق في العين وفي هذه الحالة يكون الكاز السائل قد ارتفع في الرأس وتحول إلى الحالة الغازية نتيجة سخونة الراس حيث يخرج الغاز من العين ويشتعل من خلال الراس. وإذا أراد أن يخفف شدة الاشتعال فيكون بواسطة البريمة الغيرة اللي اتكلمت عليها سابق. الملاحظ انه صاحب الفديو ما جابش سيرة البريمة واستعمالها خالص. وشكرا.

    Чувствуется что человек никогда в жизни не видел работающий примус!!! Его надо НАКАЧАТЬ после того как стали вырываться языки пламени их разогретой горелки! и тогда уже начинать пользоваться! Фактически , примус это та же самая паяльная лампа !!! Я этими примусами пользовался до 1964 года, .. в Одессе на Молдаванке у нас газа не было примерно до 1963 года..Спасибо Хрущеву.     This stove lacks a loop at the top of the ignition zone to determine the ignition area. Also, press the air pressure piston 7 or 8 times or more to add air pressure inside the fuel tank. It will give you quick fire with a high volume and flame strength with the concentration of the ignition zone called {gouache or kosha}
    I have been using it for 15 years

    It would look even better if you removed those copper tubes off of the sides, cleaned up the excess solder, then make a stand to put the burner into and include the three pieces that you beat out straight on your anvil. If you have a welder available somewhere you could use that to make a triangular stand of some form including your pot stand pieces you made.

    Pressurise the kerosene fuel with the pump handle, adjust to a blue flame. Knew these well as a kid till the died out for some silly reason? They were great, and the fuel also worked in your trusty lantern. Camping was so much fun using these alternate technologies. It made it exotic to be independent in the middle of nowhere. 500ml of kerosene went a long way and the odour of these devices burning was somehow very masculine in my mind.

      Can't really describe the feeling using something like this than conventional gas, like just starting a small fire with kindleing, know how many hours 500ml would last?

    Good to see the stove come alive, nice work . ... though the burner hole needs to be cleaned with a pin type attachment. The flames are yellow due to the earlier soot in the hole . Also you need to pump up the primus consideribly more.

    It needs to be pumped till you get a blue flame. Also the burner ring is missing. It directs the flame upwards towards the vessel.

    the legs has to be one piece this way they don't wiggle when you put the pot and you pump it good until you can't pump any more before you pot the pot then there is tool for the head where the kerosene coming out very small injector we call it needle to clean the injector every time you use it and another part are missing from your stove its the hat on top of the head this way spread the fire

    Очень нехорошее пламя получилось! Должно быть синее и примус должен работать с шумом, как реактивный двигатель!

    Not bad work, but there must have been a way to lessen that big solder patch. I think the way to handle it would have been some of that inside the tank coating they use when making or repairing motorcycle gas tanks. Will keep it from leaking without huge patchwork. If that brass was too thin to braze, then that's the only way I can think of to lessen the patchwork. Of course, you could have plated the whole thing to achieve a more consistent look, but then again, wouldn't that be going too far for such an item? Probably. It works, you don't need it to do more than that. Oh, you can use high grade alcohol as fuel completely, it will work and burn clean.
