I believe they truly loved each other, but could not live together in harmony. Michael was sweet, gentle and kind and very much his own person, he did not like to be told what to do. Lisa is a good person, but likes her own way, not her doing, just something she has been used too, I think they would have dis-agreed about alot of things. But for a time I truly believe they were so happy together.
